    Collapse of the Russian Federation

It's hard to say. I see very little evidence of widespread unrest in that respect. And even with ukraine a significant part of the population wanted to maintain ties with russia. Still - who knows what lurks in the hearts of men. We'll see, it could be that you're right and the dissatisfaction...

    Bill’s C-10 & C-11. If we aren’t talking about it already, shouldn’t we be?

And this is a big part of the problem. The other is the rampant spread of tribalism. Nowadays many (especially on the left but not exclusive to the left) are focused entirely on protecting 'their team' against anything. They refuse to acknowledge ANY information that is negative about their...

    Collapse of the Russian Federation

Not impossible, that's for sure. But - I don't think a collapse is likely. You may see a little bit of chipping at the edges but not much, and i think actual breakaways will be few and far between. Having said that, if they're going to do it now's probably the time.

The Origin of the Wuhan Coronavirus

The 'other' side isn't in control of achedemia at the moment. And no, it's not 'whining' to point out what one side is doing without pointing out the other. You can say "what this group here is doing is wrong" without listing all the groups in history who have done it as well. I can say 'the...

    Collapse of the Russian Federation

I dont' think we're seeing a 'collapse'. But - we could be seeing a period of restructure - in the sense that they may be rethinking or retooling how they do things But overall i wouldn't expect change. Russians LIKE being part of a big country. There's an old saying that russians will have...

The Origin of the Wuhan Coronavirus

Fun joke about 'science' that is often used to show how it can be flawed: A scientist trains a flea to jump. Every time he says "Jump!" it jumps. He then pulls a leg off the flea, and says "Jump". the thing hobbles up and jumps. He continues this, one leg after another, and on the last leg...

The Origin of the Wuhan Coronavirus

But i thought you said the science always is what it is? And that you'd never heard of boybandology? :) Ron is quite right. Science, is a method. The method can be seriously corrupted by accidental or intentional bias very easily. Some people believe science is some sort of 'pure' method of...

Pierre Poilievre’s callous courting of Canada’s ‘deplorables’ (left wing in full panic mode)

IF all voters felt that way, we wouldn't have a problem. Unfortunately the voters consistently reward the party that does it, not the party that thinks of it. The only exception is tommy douglas and "universal health care", I think Jaggers is hoping that dental will be the same for him. It...

Pierre Poilievre’s callous courting of Canada’s ‘deplorables’ (left wing in full panic mode)

True, although some of trump's tweets and such did have real world consequences. He says 'toyota sucks' and toyota shares drop the next day. And while much of it was absolutely hilarious in some respects it did foster divisions. It didn't create those divisions, that happened much earlier, but...

    Bill’s C-10 & C-11. If we aren’t talking about it already, shouldn’t we be?

Quite true. By any reasonable definition Trudeau is a populist. He delivered on some things but basically just said anything people wanted to hear. "Last election that's first past the post! Legal dope! lower home prices (in 2015)! I'll balance the budget in 3 years! Nobody will be forced to...

    Bill’s C-10 & C-11. If we aren’t talking about it already, shouldn’t we be?

Well the definition gets kicked around a lot but the idea that seems to be common is "the difference between popular and populist is that a popular policy is something the politiican promises and actually intends to deliver that people really like, where as populist is where the politician says...

Pierre Poilievre’s callous courting of Canada’s ‘deplorables’ (left wing in full panic mode)

Well it's also a lot of revenue for the gov't. So far their "returns" haven't been meeting contributions. And even if they did, they charge GST on the tax and they get to keep all that money too - estimated at 187 million JUST in bc and alberta alone as I recall (not referring to my notes but...

Nova Scotia mass shooting inquiry: Advice given to witness worries former judge

Yeah but they're still old houses :) Old isn't always bad, but the saying basically means if you use something that's old to build something new you get the same problems you had with the old one. (or benefits i guess, but that obviously doesn't apply here).

Majority of Canadians have now caught COVID — so what does that mean for the future?

Sure they do - You give me xxx dollars, i say what you want :) They just don't care about any math beyond that.

Nova Scotia mass shooting inquiry: Advice given to witness worries former judge

Yeah, but won't a lot of the 'new' officers just be retreds from the RCMP who apply to the new force? A new house built with old wood is an old house.
