That is just plain silly. Who in their right mind would want to cover the end of the world? Personally, I want to be in the saddle of a gorgeous red head and go out with a bang.

That happened in 2000 after the Millennium Bug thing was a no show. People started dumping all their solar panels, dehydrated food stashes, generators, and other survival gear. I know a lot of guys who built their off grid homes on the cheap around then.
