Liberal candidate house ransacked in broad daylight

I actually saw the cops at her place last night taking photographs. She lives across the road, and I dated her daughter a few years ago. http://www.trurodaily.com/index.cfm?sid=176413&sc=68

    Kingsnorth 6...jury aqcuits Greenpeace activists

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/sep/10/activists.carbonemissions So, that's kinda surprising. The first time such a defense has worked, not sure if it's the first time it's been tried. No doubt the testimony of Hansen helped sway the jurors. So, Hansen's webpage has the testimony he...

    The pesky hockey stick returns...

In 1998, researchers Michael Mann, Raymond Bradley and Malcolm Hughes(MBH98) conducted a paleo-reconstruction of the Northern Hemisphere temperature record. They concluded that the current NH temperature increase was anomalous in the past 1000 years. Former mining executive and statistician...

Coral reef glue questioned in acidified waters

Over the past few years, new information has arisen pointing to the difficulty of calcifying organisms to retain a foothold in their respective ecological niches, however. This information has focussed on the ability to build and maintain their chalky shells in acidifying ocean waters. Now, it...

    Are debatable scientific questions debatable?

The title of this thread is the title of a paper by John Ziman, appearing in Social Epistemology. The focus of the paper is the difficulty most scientists have in integrating their rigorously obtained expertise into issues of public concern. I found the article very intriguing, as a former...

Freaking rain, what a weird summer

Another day with no work due to rain. Last summer I made real good coin landscaping in Calgary. This year, with all the rain in Alberta, my hours are waaaay down from last year. Craptastic. Was 60+ hours a week last year, and this year it's probably about 40 a week average now. Blah! :angry3:

http://www.edmontonsun.com/News/Alberta/2008/07/13/6143566-sun.html Is any soldier's contribution to Canada worth less than an elected official's contribution? Doesn't seem fair to me either.

Anyone know Alberta rules for tree removal?

So, there is this huge poplar tree in my father's neighbour's yard. Half of the tree hangs over Dad's house, and he's worried that some of these storms that blow through Southern Alberta might break some of the larger limbs off, and then fall onto his roof. Now, the house next door sits vacant...

    2008 Hurricane season

It's only April still, but this is the time when the first forecasts for the hurricane season come out. They will be refined in the coming months, as historically, April forecasts have about the same skill as Maggie the monkey from the NHL predictions made at TSN, perhaps even worse. Dr. Jeff...

Clarifying the scientific naming convention- theories

On this forum, and some others I visit, there has been some confusion over the hierarchy of the scientific terminology, and how they differ from common usage of the words. Not all lay people are confused by this system, but some are. Things like "just a theory" are used in the common usage to...
