Debate is supposed to consist of some back and forth, with fresh ideas, fresh attitudes, some sense of exploration of the subject. That however, requires an intellect that has gotten beyond the elementary school playground...you know very well what I mean :

In general, the noise coming from the cons when the Libs posted surpluses was a constant whine of being over taxed when most logical people know that paying the down the debt was important.
I remember vividly when Paul Martin gave his annual economic statement Preston Manning would always give that goofy smile like Paul had no clue what he was doing.....well guess what Preston....he knew exactly what he was doing and it was the right thing. When the Libs eliminated the deficit not one peep of praise from the opposition bench of Reform, they were to busy secretly opting into the pension plan they hated.....er hypocrisy. Then, when the surpluses started rolling in they whined about being over taxed when the hue a cry use to be about debt which Paul was paying down. When the debt was brought down to a manageable level the tax cuts began and were more generous than the original ones promised by the cons including the idiotic reduction in the gst.
The cons are unproven when it comes to the economy when you consider they inherited the surplus from the Libs which is shrinking. We will see how they do in the next 4 years or whenever Harper decides to go against his meaningless fixed date promise.

Truer words I haven't heard in quite some time. We're looking forward to some tough global economic
times from the fall-out of the American market. It's ugly. In a turn of events, Alberta & Saskatchewan
& Newfoundland (though this might be news to them) are getting ready to prop things up until everyone
is back on their feet. It'll be much easier without someone trying to hamstring our provincial economies.
In four years, we might need the Liberals to come along with their deficit shovel and dig us back to the
light of day....but not right now with Dion and this Green Shift. If the Global economy was rocking, then
we might be able to afford a "people friendly/business unfriendly" NDP, but right now that isn't the case.
The Green Party will even get their day in the Sun, but not now. Harper is the way to go at this point.
