Some people add their own lines(with a change in colour) between various lines in the quote. If it was limited to three or four lines then they would not be able to do that.

I'm certainly not trying to sound like I'm bashing your idea, wolf, I just wanted to say that I feel that there is a downside to it.

Yeah.... I'm one of them.... Just seems we do a lot of scrollwork if three or four people quote the whole thing complete with pictures - maybe just kill the pics in quotes?

Hi, Chris;

I have, with disappointment, noticed that several new members leave after a short time. They are the ones with knowledge and brains in politics. And politics is my favorite subject.

Any newbie, I once was one too, looks at the front sign... The Conveyor Belt, because that is exactly what it is! Kraut und Rueben - alles durcheinander, wird drauf geworfen und "serviert"! Any topic, no matter how trivial, gets front-line exposure... over and over!

How often have I tried to find the topic I last posted in!!! It's hidden somewhere in the underbelly, because it is of no interest to the chatters.

You could, if you are not yet familiar with it, take a look at this German forum: http://bb.focus.de/focus/index.php
It is beautifully laid out, well organized and roomy. The only disadvantages they have, is you can't post pictures, and they have no "wall", and you can't display "friends". Those three features I love here!! It's great to welcome a newbie, great to get acquainted.

The "childish" green reputation system! What are we? Kindergartners? Weg damit!!! Ist Bloedsinn! Idiots are qualified to hand out green or red points!!! It reduces us to little kids in the schoolyard, being accepted and favored by our peers or harassed and downgraded at will by our foes!! All mods have lots of green points! What does that tell you??

Alright, I did let it rip. It is not meant as criticism against you, Chris, or the mods or anyone else, it is just outing my frustrations, my disappointments, my disillusions. You asked for suggestions, but I can't make suggestions!... you have to look at my ramblings and see, if they are valid and something can be done about it... of course only, if it serves the greater good!

Yours truly
Loon

It may be better to put a number at the top of every reply to any thread; so that one may refer to it in the discussion, and say: "Refer to my reply number sn and so". Or: "See your reply number so and so".
Best regards.

I have to agree with Ms. Loon about the greenies. A post count should be enough to give one a sense of where the sentiment lies.

I do like the way CC works though. I give it a two thumbs up!!

I don't say a lot here, but i do read every day, almost.

I don't quite 'get' the making friends thing, I am kind of shy, don't know how to ask someone
here to 'be my friend', but I like everyone, and don't want to play favourites by asking
someone to be my friend, and not others, does that mean you like some much better
than others, does that really belong here?

OK, now I will admit I am not a person who makes friends easily in real life, so I guess that gets
dragged onto this forum, so maybe it's 'just' me.

You have a drop down menu under your name, and one of the options is 'find all posts by...'

When you lose a thread, use that option (try it right in this thread even), and you can scroll through the list of your posts by date.

* I'm not sure of the logistics on this but it would be interesting if a topic font color changed slightly if someone was in the midst of replying to it. That way, at a glance, members would know if they can expect something new in the thread.

* To reinvent the board topics, and if possible bring them above the fold.
Actually meant board categories. The board seems category-less with the "top threads" uncategorized and, like Loon said, seemingly on a conveyor belt. A newbie probably doesn't know what to make of the board, eg the theme/focus, without digging around for awhile.

Half of the topic title line in the "top threads" area is empty. It would be good to fill it with the category (and anything else relevant that could fit). The strength of the old board was to find that sort of info quickly. Some categories are of interest to people and it would be nice to identify them at a glance.

Thanks, Karrie! I have at times done that, but I mostly forget about that route, or think I'll find it any minute!

This is all really great input and I when I'm further into drawing up the plans, I will post some polls, especially one on ditching the reputation system and reorganising the features on each post (ie: avatar, location, status, rank, postcount, location, PM, All posts by..., Add as friend, etc).

I'd disagree. I like the rep feature. Sometimes I read a post that I absolutely agree with. So writing anything into the thread would just be like rewriting it in different words. The rep feature makes it very easy to tell the person that his or her ideas are appreciated.

How about "thanks" button? I like the rep thing too ... until you get some bushwhacker using it as anonymous means to fire off nasty comments....

OK now, this is 'not' what I was doing, begging for friends, although I guess I
asked for it.

Thanks anyway.;-)

Frankly talloola, my gut reaction was to add you right away because I was shocked to realize I didn't have you added. Usually, anytime something in a convo strikes me as worth PM'ing someone over, be it to offer an extra congratulations or a funny pic on their wall that fit with a discussion, I add them when I do it. I know I PM'ed you (actually, just realized I posted on your wall) regarding your anniversary.... I just forgot to add you... curious.

Anyway, my point was, I'd guess that many people had the same reaction I did. I certainly didn't see it as 'begging'. lol.

Me, too. I had to go look to see if you were on my buddy list, Tal. You weren't so I requested an add. :D

Yeah, I appreciated the anniversary e mail, but the friends thing, I don't need, and was
suggesting that we don't have such a thing, it seems childish and silly, sort like something
we would have done in elementary school. I've not asked anyone to 'be my friend', I even
feel silly saying it, so I will remain the resident 'snob', (just kidding);-),) but I love it
here anyway.
Begging for a friend, or even accepting someone asking to be my friend, after I whined
about the 'concept' is something I don't want, you'll all have to just accept me the way
I am, persnickety/yippity/snobbidy/tothepointedly/femaleably/and happytobealiveably:lol:

aw Talloola, does that mean ya don't wanna be my friend? :-( ;-)

actually I was glad you posted about that, because I do enjoy the buddy list - it's a nice way to welcome noobs too... but it seems like when the feature was first introduced, we all ran around collecting up our buddies and then forgot all about that feature.
