I shop in Canada (I prefer Canadian goods anyway). Mostly because I rarely want to go very far. Another reason is the price of fuel. Another is that I was always used to just crossing the border for the price of a conversation or two with border officials (they need to be smiled at and treated like humans, too); no passports and visas and whatnot involved. Now there's even more reason to stay here to shop.
BTW, even when net shopping I choose Canadian over US products.
I have always gone Canadian on anything even with the knowledge that it is cheaper south of the border. Cheaper because the product is not as well made as the same product destined for Canadian consumers.
UL stickers are sent to overseas plants, the CSA is more diligent.
Your warranty in the U.S. is virtually zip. I try to ensure at least a 3 year warranty and extend it if it is a big ticket item.
<sigh> If only I could get Canadian prices all the time. But then again if I could make the same money in Canada I'd be there. In the article a Wii costs $279.99, here they cost £179.99--($358.85CDN) so how bad is that, no wonder companies call the UK treasure island. Of course snow blowers are much less in that they don't have any. Anyway the only price that matters is this....
Even if they were giving the product away in the States,I'd still buy it here. I did see in the morning paper tho, that there is an average price gap between us and the of approx,18% and the border shoppers i know will still shop there.
