The mother of 12-year-old murder victim Karissa Boudreau is in hospital for undisclosed reasons, CTV News has learned.

Penny Boudreau's next-door neighbour Scott Saunders watched as she was taken away by paramedics from her home in Bridgewater, N.S. on Monday morning, he told CTV Atlantic.

"She did look like she was awake but she wasn't moving. All I could really see was her hair and her face and then I saw her bare feet peeking out from the stretcher," said Saunders, who was home sick when he awoke this morning to the sound of sirens in his building's parking lot.

"I heard ambulances outside of my building, and then shortly after that the ... paramedics moved Mrs. Boudreau from her unit," he said.

Several hours later, Karissa Boudreau's aunt arrived at the Jubilee Road apartment building after visiting the Bridgewater hospital.

When asked how Penny Boudreau was doing, Karissa's aunt April O'Reilly told CTV that she was "OK."

A hospital spokesperson told CTV News she could neither confirm nor deny that Boudreau had in fact been hospitalized.

When contacted by phone, however, a law enforcement official said authorities had been at the hospital to check on Boudreau's status.

For neighbours like Saunders, this is the latest chapter in a troubling saga.

"It's been very stressful, everybody is still grieving, trying to let go, but still kind of hanging in there," Saunders said.

Late Monday afternoon, O'Reilly told CTV News that Boudreau is expected to be in hospital until at least Tuesday.

Karissa disappeared on Jan. 27 after having an argument with her mother in the parking lot of a Bridgewater shopping mall.

Penny Boudreau said she went into a grocery store after the argument and returned to her car 10 minutes later to find her daughter was missing. She later made two emotional pleas to the public for Karissa's safe return.

The little girl's body was found on Feb. 9, covered in snow beside the bank of a local river. Police are treating her death as a homicide, the town of 8,000's first since 1993.

Police arrested and released two suspects in the days following. While they told the tight-knit community to be vigilant, police also said that they were treating Karissa's murder as an isolated incident.

Alright, you want to know what I think happened in this entire situation?

Everybody I know as well as myself here in NS know exactly what it's like in the Valley and in places like Bridgewater. Parents and families are pretty screwed up (Not all, but there's plenty) My ex came from one of those types of families and I could list you a pile of baggage within her family alone.... but I won't because it's irrelevent and not really anybody else's business.

But things like this occur from time to time down there. the daughter just moved back in with her mom from living with her father for a period of time. They got into a fight.... now she's dead. Her father pretty well took over everything after the death. Two suspects were brought in and then released. Now the mother was admitted to hospital, yet they wouldn't confirm or deny it.

Why?

Because her mother is most likely one of the prime suspects. She played out her little sob story on the TV like the actor she is, and then now she's in the hospital?

Do you guys ever notice the trend that when parents lose their children, esspecially when they are murdered, that they usually go public on TV and make an outcry for justice and to seek those who killed their kid?

I don't remember hearing her do this since the murder. Now she's a very credible suspect in this situation, I bet dollars to doughnuts her daughter got lippy with her for whatever reason.... possibly for the same reason why she was with her father to begin with.... and decided to kill her and cover it up.

Now the walls are closing on her and I imagine there was a suicide attempt because soon, if not already, her neighbors and friends already know the story.... it's a small town don't forget.... where everybody knows everybody's business.

This is speculation at this point, but for the last few weeks I have suspected her mother, and this was sorta a tipping point for me.

So now I present the question to you guys:

Whodunit?

Sometimes I do end up freaking myself out: (Update)

Mother of slain Nova Scotia girl makes brief court appearance
Spectators boo and name-call outside Bridgewater court
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/nova-scotia/story/2008/06/16/boudreau-court.html

The mother of a slain 12-year-old Nova Scotia girl made a brief appearance in court Monday, where she was arraigned on one charge of first-degree murder.

Penny Patricia Boudreau, 33, was tearful as she faced the judge and a packed courtroom. She was remanded into custody and ordered to be back in court June 24 to face the charge related to the death of her daughter, Karissa Boudreau.

Penny Boudreau was ordered not to have any contact with witnesses, including her boyfriend Vernon MacCumber, who was described by the Crown attorney as a "material witness."

There were almost 100 spectators gathered inside the Bridgewater courtroom to watch Penny Boudreau's first appearance in court. They ranged from a 12 year-old friend of Karissa's who was unable to attend her funeral to seniors who had never met the girl.

Also in the courtroom were Paul Boudreau, Karissa's father, and an uncle and an aunt of the girl. Penny Boudreau's parents were there, too.

All spectators had to pass through a metal detector to enter the building.

Wearing a red t-shirt and jeans, Penny Boudreau sniffled and wept throughout her appearance, looking at the ground and hiding her eyes with a tissue.

Of course, because she got caught.... friggin amateur (among many other things I could call her)

Another 100 people waited outside the courthouse to see Boudreau as she entered and exited the building. Some booed, whistled and yelled names at her as she was escorted from the courthouse into a police van after her arraignment.

Boudreau was arrested Friday in Halifax and charged with murdering her daughter. The girl's body was found on the banks of the LaHave River 12 days after she was reported missing by her mother.

RCMP and Bridgewater police said Friday at a news conference that they are confident only one person was responsible for Karissa's slaying, and they said their investigation has shown Karissa knew her killer.

Karissa was reported missing Jan. 27 after she reportedly disappeared from the parking lot of a Bridgewater grocery store as a snowstorm descended on the town. Boudreau told police she had argued with her daughter that day as they drove to the store.

Two days after she reported her daughter missing, a tearful Boudreau appealed to the public for help at an emotional news conference.

The girl's body was discovered on Feb. 9 by a passerby on the river bank, just outside town limits.

Did I mention people are screwed up around here?

Sick b*tch.... killing your own child is pretty damn low. If the mob gets ahold of her, or prisoners get ahold of her in jail, or she commits suicide, no loss in my books....

Accused N.S. mother weeps during court appearance

Penny Boudreau wept during her first court appearance after being charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 12-year-old daughter Karissa.

Boudreau, 33, said nothing in her brief appearance in a Bridgewater, N.S. courtroom, nor did she make eye contact with anyone but the judge.

Her charge was read into the court record and the judge ordered her not to have any contact with four people including her boyfriend and her former husband, Karissa's father. The two men are Crown witnesses.

Boudreau is scheduled to be back in court on June 24 at 2 p.m.

About 100 spectators had gathered outside the courthouse. They jeered the accused as police took her away. Boudreau, wearing a red T-shirt, dabbed at her eyes with a tissue.

Police arrested Boudreau in Halifax on Friday, announcing the development in a Saturday news conference. They don't expect to lay any further charges against anyone else.

"Investigators have done a meticulous and full investigation, said Crown prosecutor Paul Scovil. "We are very confident with the evidence that we have."

The arrest came more than four months after a passerby found Karissa's body on the west bank of the LaHave River near Bridgewater.

Penny said she had gone to a Bridgewater supermarket with her daughter on Jan. 27. She claimed the two had quarrelled in the car, and that when she returned from the store, Karissa was gone.

It's unbelievable that a mother would kill her only child for no apparent reason. 8O Are the police absolutely positive that it was her? And how exactly was the girl killed? Is there any information?

I've seen enough hand to hand combat between mothers and teenage daughters to think that 'no apparent reason' doesn't necessarily apply. Being a 13 year old girl is often reason enough for a huge amount of strife between mother and daughter. Praxius was bemoaning 'testosterone fueled rages' today, but I've rarely seen men go off the way mothers and their pubescent daughters will sometimes.

Women still have Testosterone in their systems too

But back to the above questions, not much in details have been given out, but considdering they have her live-in boyfriend and her ex-husband as key crown witnesses and she's not permitted to speak to them during the court process, I'd say they have some good information going public soon enough.
