"only thing they ever brought to the poor was exploitation."
Well, duh.
You should have noticed that Christians are simply people like you?
Christians = People...
It shouldn't come as surprise. Instead, I expect my fellow pastor to take my money & spend it on his luxurious car. For this action, I will go to other church.
As Jesus said,
"Love you're enemy as you would love you're friend."
"turn you're other cheek if one hits you by one cheek."
Hard...but its what Ghandi did..
Well I don't find it in a manufactured celebrity either so I can agree there. The thing is as well as being a manufactured celebrity she was also a human being who lived and breathed and spent her life in the dirt and squalor as well as being in five star hotels when she travelled and met with heads of state or leaders.I do respect the spirt of love and compassion I just don't find it in a manufactured celebrity.
She went to India for that is where she felt called to go. To argue she about where you think she should have helped is pointless. She was where she was. She lived where she lived. She helped where she did. What was a Romanian doing in India helping the needy when it required her to ignor the needy of Romainia?
I have a problem with blanket statements such as this one as they are always untrue.Lets give the old christian missionary thing a rest the only thing they ever brought to the poor was exploitation.
Like I thought, manufactured, totally manufactured.
And your links and articles should be trusted more than CNN and Time, because? Simply the fact that they're yours?

That is merely your feeling on them it is not a truth. While you certainly have a right to feeeeel anyway you want about Christian missionaries, it does not take away the good they have done, nor the lives they have saved, nor the people's hearts they have touched.
It's all in one's perception.
Christians have done thier worst and represent the absolute worst of mankind. It is the truth. There is no shortage of documentation of the crimes, there is no doubt about the evidence and I'm not wrong you are.
Honestly darkbeaver I am not a Christian so I do not feel I am biased one way or the other. We as human kind have a black side. We are moving toward the light but it is at a snail's crawl. No it's not all in one's perception. Have you considered that what you say you know/feel about the history of Christian missionaries is completely wrong? Most christian missionaries traveled in the camps of imperial armys, Portuquese, Spanish, British, Dutch, French, American and Canadian something Canadians have yet to address. If you think thier function was to save the lives of heathens and do the good works touching the hearts of the masses you're mistaken. Nobody can count the millions sold into slavery, displaced from thier homes and familys.More hearts were touched with the tip of a sword or a musket ball. People were butchered and poisoned and burned in the name of God. Christians have done thier worst and represent the absolute worst of mankind. It is the truth. There is no shortage of documentation of the crimes, there is no doubt about the evidence and I'm not wrong you are.

I know many have died and been slaughtered in the name of Christianity. But also know, much good has been done. Most people within my world are Christian. My SO is Christian, right winged evangelical even. He is the least judgemental, kindest man I have ever met.
I was raised Catholic and have good memories of being raised as such with the rituals and sacraments. Most people are just struggling along in their daily lives trying to make it and find peace with where they are. Christianity helps them to do that. Makes them dig deeper and try harder.
For the most part it can be a good thing. As we become less barbaric and more centred as people and nations all of the institutions within those nations also reflect that growth.
You speak of a time that was brutal. It's institutions reflected that. I won't deny it.
We'll get there.![]()
Who gives two hoots about what missionaries used to do? We don't run around calling Americans slave traders. We don't run around calling First Nations people scalpers. We don't call Germans Nazis. The past is the past, and there are laws in place to prevent the atrocities of the past. What missionaries and Christians do in this century does not hinge on the past the way you are intent on trying to make it.

No I honestly do not believe we have become more barbaric and heartless. We certainly have the capability to kill on a larger scale so we do. But if you actually think the "average" human being is more barbaric and heartless than a few centuries ago, then you need to move and get new neighbours."As we become less barbaric and more centred as people and nations all of the institutions within those nations also reflect that growth."
Where have you gotten such an idea? Less barbaric, I can't believe you. We've become more barbaric and heartless, ruthless murderers of women and children, masters of mechanized slaughter, strippers and slashers of the living fabric of the planet and you believe were less barbaric. We won't ever get there with religion. You've frightened me.
well, for starters, slavery is illegal.
A war strictly for 'God', is illegal. We now have international councils to review and ensure that these sorts of attrocities don't occur for religious or unfounded reasons.
If you want to pretend the world doesn't (which I'm starting to suspect you will), that's fine too.

We have medical care, we have food banks, we have homeless shelters we have charity upon charity many of those if not most run by Christian organizations. See the food being dropped in Bangladesh due to the flood? All those people would have no access to food or medical help in another time.
Come on darkbeaver you know this is nothing new. We are merely more aware of it now.If the average human being is not in fact more barbaric and heartless then how is it so many millions die every year from starvation disease and war?
This too has always happened. Nations rise and fall, cultures come and go.How is it whole nations may be destroyed utterly? How is it that whole continents can be kept in poverty and dispare for centurys?
Because madmen still run the world on the fumes of greed. Not the average man. Psychopaths for the most part are not murders. They run corporations and thus the world. How is it that we find ourselves on the brink of global war once again in this enlightened era you seem to think you live in? How is it that every year in succession the wealth of the planet is squandered on weapons and luxury and diversion of no value?
Ha! Nice, the old straw man argument. I am not new to discussion. That won't fly with me.You may see the crumbs and cast-offs of imperialism and thier elite as a soothing balm for the people, the people do not.
Come on darkbeaver you know this is nothing new. We are merely more aware of it now.

Do you have a clue how much money we have thrown into Africa alone in the last fifty years? It does not solve the problem It will never solve the problem. The tiny countries are run by despots. You know the average human being there is no different than you or me just living under a different regime. If they are lucky they have a Mother Theresa of their own at least attempting to help while all of us arm chair quarterbacks heap them with criticism.

And to take it further, who are these people you speak of with such pure hearts that you need to save them from the slavery of imperialism. Oh yeah, they are the average man. You know, the ones with the big hearts. The average joe's who run the charities. The little Mother Theresa's of the world.![]()
