MADRID (Reuters) - Women in the northern Spanish city of Pamplona, world-famous for its ferocious bull-running festival, are demanding their own version complete with cows instead of bulls.

Been there, done that. Why people would purposely put themselves in the middle of a stampede is beyond me. Having a herd of animals bearing down on me was NOT my idea of fun.

Why? Cows and bulls are equally fierce, and equally able to gore you.

Not from what I've seen. Cows seem to be more quiet temperment. And the cow horns are smaller.

Why would the women require different animals? Actually, why would there need to be a special event? Are women not allowed to run with the bulls? Perhaps they can have 2 events -- one with bull s and one with cows open to all which enter.

Or they could just get rid of the thing. One of these years there will be a fatality.

lol. The biggest bull I've ever seen in my life would lay down for belly scratches when I walked into the corrals. The cows on the other hand (especially if we needed to seperate them from their calves for any reason), would just as soon stomp you to death as look at you.

But I agree with you, the whole thing ought to be gotten rid of. it's dangerous, for the animals and the people.

I think the women who want their inclusive bull run should ride the bulls for the pleasure of sexist men.

I was at the [SIZE=-1]San Fermin Fiesta or The Pamplona bull run twice. Both times I watched from a second floor balcony. The first year the bulls killed 7 people. That convinced me that I'd made the right decision.

Its not like if you go your whole life avoiding danger you'll magically live forever. Im going to die no matter what, I take a few big risks every now and then, just for the memories that will last me till the end of my days.

But to each their own, im just not a fan of outlawing things for being dangerous. As long as its not mandatory (ie, no one is making you risk your life) I see no reason to let people decide how to lead the lives of others.

EDIT...One of the things they've improved since I was there is that they won't let you run with the bull if you are drunk. Most of those killed were not the locals but the drunken tourists looking for big adventure.
