anyway the (ph)thalidamide (spelling?) was a genuine mistake. It was the first time scientists realised that the enantiomer of a compound could be toxic (teratogenic is the correct term i think). It was tested on the usual animals and seemed to be fine. Thalidamide is being used again now but as a single enantiomer instead of a racemic mixture.

Isn't it just a cleansing for the body to eat a well balanced diet. It's amazing that any body function works properly as fulltime burgervors.

That's not true of all illnesses. With gout, the list of foods to avoid include.....

Beef
Tuna
shrimp
Pork
asparagus
beans
broccoli
whole wheat breads (processed flours are preferable)
mushrooms
oatmeal

thats to name a few. It's not necessarily an unhealthy menu that can cause problems

>>>duped out of their money buy snake-oil salesmen who sold all nature of 'medicines', which could help or hurt.<<<
by "snake oil salesmen" I assume you mean the likes of the company that makes ritilin and the people that reccomend itsa use in helping add/adhd affected kids...despite no scientific evidence proveing there is such a thing as add/adhd...

ADD & ADHD
Epidemic of a Phantom Disease

There is no proof that "attention deficits" in children are anything but normal human variants, yet medical practitioners are labelling more and more children with this diagnosis and giving them dangerous stimulant drugs to control their behaviour.

No, I don't equate drug companies with snake oil salesmen. Drug companies have verified levels of chemicals with verified properties in their meds. They have been studied, and their effects have been critiqued. Whether they are NEEDED, is another issue altogether, and not really pertinent to a thread discussing the FDA's rules regarding scientific proofs being required in order to claim medical benefits from a product.

and the medical benefits to be gained from the ingestion of ritilin are.......

or the fda approved aspartame.......
or the fda approval of the introduction of fluoride in bottled water dispite no scientific evidence to prove that fluoride prevents tooth decay....

ritalin.... ADD, even if you think it doesn't exist, it's been proven in clinical trials to help focus children who lack focus.

aspartame, makes no claims for health benefits, other than to be a virtually calorie free sugar substitute, especailly beneficial for people with diabetes. Its benefits in improving the diets and health of diabetics is proven, despite any of the side effects others may experience (and I happen to be one of those who can not use aspartame). It doesn't make claims to cure any illness, and yet it is subject to FDA approval as well. Proving the point that something that makes health claims had better be able to prove it.

As for flouride, it has long been shown to improve the strength of tooth enamel. Again, whether you think it is needed or not, the FDA requires it be approved, because it is being added to our system with a claimed effect.

They are consistent, and their role is an important one, even if it seems cumbersome at times

Have you seen the lastest? - Restless Legs Syndrome.

Yeah, antioxidants take the acid out of the muscles, and the anti-inflammatory effects take down the nerve aggrevation... both actions would help stop the spasming. It's not a one dose sort of thing mind you.

I have restless tongue syndrome. I click my tongue and move air around my mouth all the time. It drives me nuts and makes me sore. I also click my toes and jiggle my legs and on a really heavy day of caffeine use, I bite my own lips till they bleed.

Putting it like that I'm not sure if i should press the button to post this.

be kind to me i'm a freak

You're a cute freak though, so it's okay. Most of those are probably nervous ticks though right... stuff you can stop if you think about it? Totally feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. The reason I ask is because restless leg syndrome is totally involuntary. No stopping it just by realizing you should.

stretch do you actually know anything or do you just just to the conclusion which follows the biggest conspiracy theory? Do you have any proof of your claims? are there any studies which show ritalin to be as terrible as you say? It's not that I disbelieve you particularly but a claim as strong as the one preceding this post needs backup

And that has what to do with the FDA approval of its drug makeup? I'm not about to debate ADD and ritalin with you in a thread you started about cherry juice and the FDA.
