hey, it says here that this mary was sonnys fourth wife..i didnt know he had more than just cher and mary. where did the other two come from anyway?

Sonny was married before he met Cher, and he has a daughter from this marriage. Cher was actually his second wife. He later married, on the rebound, his secretary from the TV show around the same time Cher married Gregg Allman. This marriage lasted all of 6 or 7 months. Mary was his last wife, and after Cher, the woman he was with longest.I think he has a son and daughter from this last marrage-so a total of four kids, one from his first wife, one from Cher and two from Mary.

oh pu-leaze..get over yourself... what the heck do you think women are, some sort of slaves or something?

Quite right. Men like Sonny actually do not see their wives as equals, and that is the problem in a nutshell. In my opinion, Cher did what she had to do, what allot of women have to do, to escape a controlling, domineering jerk.

Sonny was a good guy, he wasn't a jerk at all. Cher was a kid, who knew nothing much

at all, only how to sing. I'll say it again, she would been have nothing without him, he helped her

become what she was, I don't think a jerk would have done that. He wasn't the one who broke

up their marriage, she finally grew up and decided to fly on her own.

Those who followed her career when she was at her highest, know her from that point on,

so you can thank sonny that she got that far to begin with. They were a good couple, they

were happy for a number of years. Yes, he did all the "work" made all the "arrangements" wrote

many of their songs, he was a very talented guy within his own rights. He shouldn't be trashed

for being who he was, which wasn't a "jerk", he wasn't a bad person, just very ambitious and

hard working and successful, and she was the recipient of that hard work, she became successful

because of him, and she would be the first to say that.

I always felt Cher was way to good for Sonny...still do..

So I'm bias...had a crush on her since the 70's :)

My husband has been in love with her since the 1960's:) Used to say he wanted her to leave Sonny so he could marry her. Well, she did leave Sonny in the 1970's, but too late for my old man because he was already with me:-(

ME TOO!!! I adored Cher as a young teenage boy. We must be around the same age Ottawabill!

And you know something, I found her much sexier with Sonny than without him. Back in those days, she wasn't only sexy, but classy. Not at all like her, shall we say, more trashy side we've seen since she left Sonny.

i still am trying to figure this out. like, where was her mother when she moved in with this older guy? im 17 and if i told my mom i was in love with a guy in his 30s and might move in with him, i think shed kill the guy. anyways, one of my friends had a boyfriend that was 24 and she was 16. when her dad found out last summer it was a big frickin' deal.i thought he was gonna kill the guy. i wonder why so many older guys want to be around teenage girls anyway?

You make an interesting point that goes even beyond the Sonny and Cher story. In other words, ages for dating. As a father of an almost 18 year old girl myself, I can promise you I'd not be happy if she made the choice Cher made at 18. But nowadays many teenage girls dress and behave like young women in their 20's, so maybe they are asking for this sort of trouble?
