Did you hear about this?
Cairo - The Egyptian Mininter of religious endowments has forbidden his ministry's religiious counsellors from wearing the face veil, or "niqab". "I totally reject the appointment of fully veiled women working as counsellors meant to guide people in religious matters"minister Hamdy Zaqzuq told the daily newspaper.

Well, to me, the full face veil is bound to cause problems with communication in the work place. I'm glad I'm not the one who has to decide when it comes to these.

Many schools have adopted uniforms for students to eliminate cliches, gangs and even expressions of individuality that do not meet certain expected norms. Why not adopt a uniform code for teachers? It would only be fair.

I think uniforms are handy at times. I found myself near a fire scene one time so I attended in my civies. Or tried to. Some boneheaded cop screeched at me, I screeched back I was a firefighter, he kept screeching at me, I hauled out my badge, he screeched more. A pumper showed up, I grabbed turnout gear off it, climbed into it, went back to the cop, and ordered him to direct traffic. If I'd been on-duty, I would have been in uniform and he wouldn't have screeched at me. :D

Weird, none of the Catholic schools here require uniforms. None of the ones I know in Alberta do either. I know the one I attended didn't have uniforms, and the Muslim students were allowed to wear their headscarves.

I think it tends to be a regional thing. Some public schools require uniforms too.

I think uniforms are great. There's far too much time spent on looking cool and, since trampware is in, it's important that schools set and enforce policy. Given that many parents are as shallow as their children it's helpful that an arbiter like school policy come in to save them as they lose battle after battle with their little wonders at home. Schools weren't developed to satisfy the libidos of kids; they were put into place to prepare them for a successful future. Hopefully, they'll be allowed to do that.

In Ontario all Catholic schools require uniforms. I personally think that Muslims should not be allowed to attend Catholic schools.Mind you., I don't think they should be allowed in Canada(unless they convert to the Catholic faith of couse), but that is another issue.

That's petty talk. I know there are people who portray Muslims as sword swinging bomb packing loonies, but get a grip. If you buy that load of donkie manure I have some primo oceanfront real estate for you in Saskatechewan, real cheap too. I only hope people don't judge me by the prejudiced people here in Canada, though I see from a recent survey that I might be the minority here...

What remains to be seen is, how or if the EU courts will take some legal action on any of these type of cases. So far, I have not seen any but perhaps one may lawsuit may eventually emerge. It will interesting to see what decision is reached by such a court.
