How can we get rid of our sinfulness?

The Lord patiently waits until we change
Why couldn't he just make us right the first time?

You think you've lived without God, but in fact He has been present in you always. He is present in us all, whether we acknowledge Him or not.
Yeah, I've been expecting that one. Every believer I've ever discussed these things with has made that claim eventually. I suspect you all have to believe that because you can't otherwise conceive how I could possibly be the good and decent person I claim to be. Possibly you wouldn't make the next claim, sanctus, but a lot of your fellow travellers do: despite god being in me and making me good without revealing his presence to me, because I did not have faith he's going to condemn me to Hell for eternity.

He does not require our belief to exist.
Of course not, as a supposedly perfect being he could exist perfectly well with or without us, which makes me wonder why he bothered to create all this in the first place, knowing what a train wreck it'd be. There's a fundamental irrationality at the heart of religion. But he does demand certain other things of us, while at the same reminding us repeatedly of what awful sinners we are--or at least most of his appointed representatives do--and how we're never going to meet his expectations. That's a pretty lame way to sell the product.

I can only conclude that despite his omniscience he made a pretty bad job of designing and building us. Why would a perfect being create such dreadfully flawed creatures to worship him, knowing exactly how awful we were going to be?

My, you are certainly a cynic, aren't you! I am not an expert by any means, but there is that item of free choice to consider. Do you not sometimes think many of us choose the so-called "dark-side" because we are unable to exercise good judgement regarding decent and moral behaviour?

If you are going to be a priest, then be a priest of the heart. There is where healing takes place.

Love you brother, in Christ.

Peace>>>AJ :love9:

Phew, you certainly are a wordy man:) All that verbiage and I read it twice and still have no idea at all what you are talking about! Who is going to be a priest? Are you that priest? What was the point of all these words and Bible quotes?

Could you possibly answer minus the twenty minute sermon? And perhaps in your own words. I can read the Bible myself if I wish to, no need to copy it here:)

scrolls are in Israel, but most of them are in Jordan, with a remarkable similarity to the ones we have in Greek and Hebrew. A most important discovery on the OT.!.

My goodness, more wordiness, but truthfully a bit more concise and informative then our other poster who seems to dance around the bush rather than rushing right in. It is fascinating, to me, that the bible has remained unaltered for such a long time. Makes one think. What do you attribute this to?

By the way, what does "sanctus" stand for?

Nope. I'm positive that some of the people who do harm have something interfering with the normal function of the brain: like an imbalance in the electrochemicals that enable the brain to work. The others are simply too lazy, ignorant, weak-minded, etc. to exercise some self-control.

Interesting. I agree that many people are lazy, etc. However, I must admit that I do know people of the Christian faith that are quite devoted and sincere. Frankly I do not consider this to be harmful at all, and in fact perhaps it helps them to help others? Who are we to judge they are wrong if they are seemingly content?

Easy, I was only asking. seems an odd word for a person to use as a definition. Is this "sanctus" a male or a female, and if he or she is present, why did you choose such a word? It sounds Latin, is it?Odd that someone in this day and age would be familiar with Latin!

I find nothing wrong with most people that are "faithful". Although I am an atheist, some things about religions are interesting and I enjoy good debates about them. I'm seriously positive that some people actually need to believe in the superstitious. I can't see any "evil" intentions in any religion, so far.

Almost as Catholic as the pope, his "superior". He's a priest. Seems to be a wonderful guy in spite of it, though. ;)

Oh goodness! Now I feel stupid. Almost as Catholic as the Pope, eh? Hmm, wonder how he'll handle this lazy Anglican? I mentioned already that I do attend Church, but would have to be honest and say that I am far from an ardent believer.

Truth be told though, I rather admire people of strong faith, especially in this day and age. There is not exactly a great amount of support for such people anymore, so it must take a great deal of faith to still believe despite the best efforts of society to pull their faith apart.

Um, what's the matter with Latin? I took 3 years of it in school (that was about 800 decades ago so my Latin is a bit rusty, though) :).

Nothing at all. I took it myself also 800 decades ago, I was just surprised that anyone was still was familiar with it, but since you explained his vocation, it is fairly obvious he'd be familiar with Latin.
