Quebec Providing Voter Information in French only

This is not good for voters in Montreal. Many of us in Montreal were schooled in English and speak no French, specifically in the West End of the city (Westmount, NDG, Montreal West, Hampstead, Cote St.Luc, TMR …). Seniors in these neighborhoods are not proficient with nor do they have access to the internet. They are therefore not provided with voting information as required by law. Many will simply not vote.

Yet despite these anti-English hate laws in Quebec, Carney somehow thought it was a good idea to defend these same hate laws by walking out of the trade negotiations.

The sooner we become the 51st state, the better. It’s the only way to rid Canada of Communist policies and restore individual rights for citizens.

Looks like prominent Montreal Civil Rights lawyer, Julius Grey may get involved in this.

Asked about the possibility of taking on a legal challenge over this issue, Grey said “if somebody asked me to, I would, of course.”

“I certainly would be prepared to defend the position that this is contrary to equality and to the democratic rights,” he said.

“And also that it’s contrary to this new concept that the Supreme Court has talked about twice, at least twice, which is Charter principles. That, even where there is no direct violation of the Charter, the Charter principles must be exercised, must be used in terms of discretionary powers and so on. And this is a manifest violation.”

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association called it an “erosion of the democratic process.”

The lawsuit was inevitable. When you deny a portion of the population the right to vote, citizens will fight for democracy. Canada is not (at least not yet) a communist country, and deliberately withholding voting information from a segment of the population undermines democracy in Canada.

The judge agreed that by sending out voter information in French only, many unilingual English speaking Quebeckers would essentially be denied the right to vote. This is especially true in Montreal where many of us speak English instead of French.

The catch is, the other several dozen languages commonly spoken in Canada will demand information in their language. Especially the ones that have more rights than people born in Canada.

Canada still has two official languages though…& yes locally in Saskatchewan if I requested, I can have my drivers license exams in one of 17 different languages, but this nation’s official two languages are English and French.
