Huh…they’ve both voted themselves off the non-island before anyone else could.
1768432990257.jpeg
Both are doing poorly, and both are getting out before somebody else gets them out. Crombie announced she would resign back in September after a weak show of support for the leader at the Ontario Liberal convention on the back of a third-place election finish.

In a hastily arranged news conference at the National Assembly in Quebec City, Mr. Legault said he would step aside after more than seven years in power amidst declining poll numbers and a series of contentious reforms. He said he will stay on as Premier until his party, the Coalition Avenir Québec, has chosen a new leader.“Quebeckers want change and, among other things, a change of Premier,” he said.

The announcement shakes up Quebec’s political landscape, with the Parti Québécois leading in the polls and promising a third sovereignty referendum in a first mandate. That adds to the uncertainty around national unity stemming from a growing Alberta independence movement and U.S. President Donald Trump’s previous threats to turn Canada into the 51st state.

Crombie had vowed to stay on as leader after returning the Liberals to official party status in February 2025, but failing to win her own seat or any ridings in Mississauga.

She initially said she would learn from the vote and stay on, changing her mind hours later and announcing a plan to resign. At the time, she said she would stay in post until her successor was chosen. Crombie has rarely been seen at events for the party since. On Wednesday, Crombie confirmed she would immediately stand down.

Mark Carney, Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry party in Switzerland as Canada burns
As Canada faces extensive job losses, our current and former PMs hang out with the elites at the World Economic Forum

Canada’s current and former prime ministers — and the latter’s celebrity gal pal — are “gallivanting” in Switzerland as Oshawa’s local economy evaporates. Ingersoll, Brampton and Sault Ste. Marie’s too.

While Prime Minister Mark Carney, Justin Trudeau and his pop star-girlfriend Katy Perry are hanging out with the Great Reset and New World Order crowd in the Swiss alps, Oshawa is bracing itself for 1,000 workers to lost their jobs on Jan. 30.

“They are so out of touch with reality,” said Unifor Local 222 president Jeff Gray of Canada’s leaders. “They are gallivanting around while our country is falling apart at the seams.”

And Carney, effectively, raised the white flag of defeat in Davos on Tuesday.

“We actively take on the world as it is, not wait for the world as we wish it to be,” the PM told the World Economic Forum. “The old order is not coming back. We should not mourn it. Nostalgia is not a strategy. But from the fracture, we can build something better, stronger and more just.”

5,000 jobs gone
A New World Order?

The reality Gray’s dealing with, however, is the shutdown of the third Chevy Silverado shift in Oshawa in just over a week.

“This is happening,” he said. “We will lose more than 1,000 jobs from the plant and the local supply chain. All of those jobs are going to Fort Wayne, Indiana.”

An estimated 5,000 jobs are disappearing this month in the car and steel business. Even hundreds of public sector jobs in Ottawa are vanishing too. Meanwhile, Canada’s leaders are high up in the expensive mountains in Europe as Canada is in economic free fall.

With that reality, it is galling to see Carney show up with the giant Canada jet at this conference and Trudeau and Perry doing a vanity walk through the Davos mountainside village as if they’re royalty. None of them are scraping by to make mortgage payments for fear of losing their homes.

Patronizing word salads
It’s sickening when you think of how many millions of Canadian tax dollars these globalists have squandered over the years at fancy gatherings like the WEF while they make life so expensive with their climate change taxes and initiatives — then fly into that place on their pollution-spewing luxury jets.

“Never underestimate the resolve, the motivation and strength of people standing up to defend their sovereignty, their identity, their very existence,” Trudeau told a World Economic Forum audience.

Another patronizing Trudeau word salad soundbite that means little. Especially to those families about to lose their livelihoods.

And Carney met with France’s leader Emmanuel Macron while, according to The Canadian Press, encouraging business investment into Canada.

But none of what either leader has done or is doing with the World Economic Forum, or any of their other actions, has saved Canadian jobs. They are disappearing by the boatload.

Jobs market bleeding
Oshawa is losing the shift. Algoma Steel is shuttering 1,000 jobs soon, and two car plants are essentially mothballed despite a work force and agreements in place.

“Right now, two Canadian auto plants are idled,” said Unifor Canada.

Unifor president Lana Payne noted that in addition to the shift loss in Oshawa, the “GM CAMI Assembly Plant in Ingersoll and the Stellantis Assembly Plant in Brampton, where there is currently no vehicle programs allocated, and approximately 4,000 Unifor members without work.”

Unemployed Canadians won’t be able to afford to eat fondue or chocolate in Davos or anywhere else.

“It is imperative that the federal government focus their efforts on finding an immediate resolve to the challenges we face,” said Unifor. “The first priority must be getting these plants back to work and stabilizing the auto sector. Unifor has urged the federal government to defend Canadian autoworkers and the domestic auto industry, using all policy tools at its disposal.”

Payne explains: “If we don’t protect jobs and supply chains now, there will be no foundation left to build the industry for the next generation. That means the federal government must hold all of the automakers to the commitments they made to Canadian workers and the investments they promised. The Prime Minister has publicly reassured autoworkers, after speaking with executives, that new product programs are under consideration – nothing has yet been confirmed or delivered.”

And no meeting with elites has delivered any solutions or jobs.

“Absolutely nothing,” said Gray.

As for Carney’s trips to China and Qatar, Gray believes, the benefit of any deals in those countries will be for them at Canada’s expense.

Canadian auto market facing extinction
Premier Doug Ford has called new electric cars from communist China “spy cars” and Gray says “any deals with dictatorships will come back and haunt us.”

The spin that Chinese-made cars with no manufacturing in Canada will only result in 3% of the Canadian market is nonsense, said Gray.

“We have seen this before with China. Once they are in the door, they will find a way to flood our market,” said Gray.

Payne adds, “We won’t have a competitive auto industry, or the jobs it supports, if we don’t build vehicles here in Canada. Chinese auto companies aren’t building in Canada, despite vague promises of investment years down the road” and “where China has entered other markets the playbook is always the same. Much of the supply chain remains in China, propped up by massive state subsidies and low wages, while parts are shipped in for minimal assembly locally, creating few jobs and no real industrial base.”

The focus of Carney should be on working to get the relationship back on track with Trump and the United States.

“We love Americans,” said Gray. “One hundred per cent we need to get a trade deal with the U.S.”

Flying into Davos with a bunch of oblique, feel-good language and buzz words and prancing around like celebrities is not going to replace the thousands of Canadian jobs that are disappearing.

And no amount of hamming it up for the international paparazzi is going to fix that.

Since most everyone in Canada will be on welfare, flooding the market will be easy.

Well, Eastern Canada elected Carney so now they're suffering the consequences of their decisions. The stupid people who voted for him believed that Trump was the issue when it's been our politicians all along. They have been too lazy in actually running the government efficiently & instead were too busy imposing ridiculous laws & regulations like boys can be girls. It's astonishing at how bad our government has been, especially the last 10 years!!

Bill Blair resigns seat ahead of diplomatic appointment
Former defence minister will become Canada's high commissioner to the U.K.

OTTAWA — Another Justin Trudeau-era cabinet minister has given up his seat in the House of Commons for a diplomatic post.

The former defence minister Bill Blair announced on Monday he is resigning his seat Monday and will depart Ottawa for London to become Canada’s high commissioner to the United Kingdom.

Blair is set to replace former Liberal MP Ralph Goodale — the long-serving Saskatchewan MP who was named Canadian high commissioner to the U.K. by Trudeau in 2021.

“Serving the people of Scarborough Southwest as your member of Parliament has been an incredible privilege,” Blair said on social media on Monday. “Today, I’m stepping down to accept the appointment of high commissioner for Canada in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.”

Ex-Trudeau ministers pegged for diplomatic posts
Blair’s resignation came nearly a month after former Trudeau stalwart and deputy PM Chrystia Freeland resigned her seat to take a position as an unpaid economic adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and become CEO of the Rhodes Trust.

Goodale, who returned home from the U.K. in December, is the subject of a scheduled fundraiser for the Regina—Wascana Federal Liberal Association, which is holding a “Welcome Home Pam and Ralph Goodale” reception at a convention centre in Regina on Feb. 21.

Suggestions that Blair may replace Goodale as Canada’s highest-ranking diplomat in the U.K. began swirling last year as government sources suggested three senior Trudeau-era cabinet ministers were being considered for vital diplomatic posts.

David Lametti — who famously replaced ousted Liberal cabinet minister Jody Wilson-Raybould as justice minister in 2019 — was named Canada’s ambassador to the United Nations by Prime Minister Mark Carney, replacing former Ontario premier Bob Rae late last year.

After resigning his seat in January 2024, Lametti spent a little over two months as Carney’s principal secretary before resigning in September after reportedly clashing with a fellow senior member of the Prime Minister’s Office.

Those same rumours also pegged former energy minister Jonathan Wilkinson as a candidate for another diplomatic post — rumoured to be either the European Union or Germany — but he remains a Liberal MP for now.

Former top cop-turned-politician
Blair’s political career began in 2015 after winning a seat for the Liberals in the riding of Scarborough Southwest.

Blair was instrumental in shaping Canada’s policy for the October 2018 legalization of cannabis and entered cabinet in 2019 as public safety Minister.

He was named president of the Privy Council in 2021, played a key role in Canada’s controversial response to the nationwide convoy protests and was named defence minister in 2023 — a position he held until May 2025.

Before entering politics, Blair spent a decade as Toronto’s chief of police, ending a nearly four-decade policing career in the city upon his retirement in 2015.

“I want to thank my constituents and local volunteers for their trust and support,” Blair said on X. “It has been an honour to be your voice in Parliament for the last decade and to work for all Canadians to build safer communities, protect our sovereignty and shape a better future.”

Blair also thanked Carney and Trudeau as well as those “working behind the scenes in Parliament” for their “commitment to public service. Our country is better for it.

“I’m deeply grateful for this chapter and I look forward to continuing to serve Canada and Canadians in this new capacity.”

Bill Blair is a man who has sucked the public tit for his entire life. Only other guy close might be Bob Rae, slightly ahead of Stockwell Day.

NDP MPP Doly Begum running for federal Liberals
Scarborough Southwest MPP aiming to replace outgoing Liberal MP Bill Blair

OTTAWA — After eight years as an NDP MPP, Doly Begum is heading for greener — or redder — pastures.

The Scarborough Southwest MPP, who until this week was deputy leader of the Ontario NDP, announced Tuesday she’d be leaving both her party and Queen’s Park for a shot at representing the federal Liberals.

“I understand the priorities of our community, and at this crucial moment for our country,” Begum said in a Tuesday morning statement issued by the federal Liberals. “I believe we must come together to build a stronger, more united, and more prosperous Canada.”

Begum aiming to replace Bill Blair
Begum, who represented the Ontario NDP in Scarborough Southwest since 2018, was named the Liberal candidate to replace outgoing Trudeau-era cabinet minister Bill Blair in the same riding, who on Monday announced he’s giving up his seat to become Canada’s High Commissioner for the United Kingdom.

Begum, said LPC president Sachit Mehra, has a strong track record of public service in her community.

“Doly is ready to work with Mark Carney and our new Liberal team to build a better future for Scarborough Southwest and all Canadians,” he said in a statement.

In a statement issued Tuesday morning, Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles wished her former deputy leader well.

“Our party has been proud to represent the good people of Scarborough Southwest for the past eight years and look forward to continuing that representation,” she said.

“I want to especially thank her constituency staff who, as New Democrats, continue their excellent work serving constituents.”

Born in Bangladesh and emigrating to Scarborough as a child, Begum became the first Bangladeshi-Canadian elected to office in this country.

Federal Liberals attracting turncoats while struggling to fill vacancies
Over the past several months, the federal Liberals spent much time and energy courting opposition politicians to enter their ranks — seen as a ploy to close the confidence gap in Prime Minister Mark Carney’s minority government.

Late last year, the federal Liberals were responsible for triggering two high-profile — and controversial — defections from the Conservatives.

In November, Acadie-Annapolis MP Chris d’Entremont crossed the aisle from the Tories to the Liberals, followed in December by Markham-Unionville MP Michael Ma.

Blair’s departure is the second resignation-related vacancy this year in the House of Commons.

Last month, former deputy PM Chrystia Freeland resigned to take a position as an unpaid economic adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and become CEO of the Rhodes Trust.

The PMO have yet to announce the date for a byelection to fill the vacancy left by these resignations.

Another Ford family member is entering provincial politics.

Stephanie Ford, the 20-year-old daughter of Toronto’s late mayor Rob Ford and the niece of Premier Doug Ford, was named to the Ontario PC Party’s executive committee this past weekend.

The York University student was elected for the role of youth representative at the end of the party’s weekend convention held at the Toronto Congress Centre in Etobicoke. She is also listed as one of many vice presidents on the party’s website.

“I have the honour to have been elected as the 9th vice president and youth representative of the Progressive Conservative Party,” the younger Ford wrote Monday on Instagram.

“I look forward to working alongside my fellow party members as representatives for PC supporters.”

According to her LinkedIn bio, Ford interned for York Centre MPP Michael Kerzner at the Ministry of the Solicitor General last year.

She was responsible for, among other things, coordinating Kerzner’s attendance at events and official tours as well as assisting with speechwriting and preparing briefing notes for public engagements.

In addition, Ford helped create and manage social media content for the Ontario PC Party across all platforms and contributed to policy research and analysis.

“A great end to a great internship working alongside a great team,” Ford shared online last August at the end of the internship.

“It’s been an honour to work for The Ministry of the Solicitor General Office with (MPP Michael Kerzner).”

In 2024, she interned with Etobicoke Centre MPP and Minister of Infrastructure Kinga Surma’s office.

Her father, Rob Ford, lost his battle with cancer a decade ago when she was just 10 years old.

“My dad was a great mayor,” she said at his funeral. “He helped a lot of people. He was also an amazing dad.”

She described how her father took the family on vacation to “amazing places” and bought her and younger brother Dougie the best toys.

“I know my dad is in a better place now and he’s the mayor of Heaven now. Dougie and I know that he will be with us forever. I love him so much.”

She is the latest member of the Ford family to dip her toe in provincial politics.

Besides the premier, cousin Michael Ford was elected to Queen’s Park in 2022 for York South—Weston in Toronto and served as Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism.

In 2024, he took a leave of absence to prioritize his “health and well-being over the next couple of months.” In January 2025, he announced he would not run for re-election in the upcoming provincial election, won by the PC Party for a third straight time.

Her grandfather, Doug Ford Sr., was a businessman who was elected to provincial office as a Progressive Conservative in 1995 for Etobicoke—Humber and served one term under Premier Mike Harris. He died in 2006 at the age of 73.

OTTAWA — Questions are being asked about the federal Liberals’ decision to fast-track a former NDP MPP as the party’s candidate in an upcoming Toronto-area byelection.

On Tuesday, Doly Begum — who represented Scarborough Southwest for the Ontario NDP at Queen’s Park — announced she’d resigned her seat in order to run for the Liberals to replace outgoing veteran cabinet minister Bill Blair, who this week was named Canada’s new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

Richard Marceau, senior vice president and general counsel with the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA,) told the Toronto Sun they have concerns over Begum’s past comments about Israel and the conflict in Gaza, as well as her public criticism of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Israel policy.

“It raises questions about where this government stands,” Marceau said.

“Bill Blair was a friend of the Jewish community and worked hard to build relationships with the Jewish community — especially in the face of rising antisemitism — and now they’re tapping (Begum) to take his place … a woman who holds extreme views on Israel, who said (Canada’s) government lacked moral backbone.”

Begum branded Canada’s Palestinian recognition “hypocritical”
Begum has made concerning comments regarding Israel and Gaza, including accusing Israel of conducting a so-called “genocide” and publicly repeated untruthful anti-Israel propaganda in a May 2025 social media post amplying debunked claims that Israeli aid blockades would result in the deaths of 14,000 babies in Gaza in 48 hours.

Begum has also publicly criticized the government’s stand on Israel.

In a September 2025 Instagram post, she referred to Canada’s recognition of the State of Palestine as an empty gesture, accusing Canada of being complicit in supposed “war crimes” committed during Israel’s self-defence operations in Gaza.

“To recognize Palestine while simultaneously supplying arms and supporting this carrying out atrocities is not only hypocritical, it is a betrayal of justice and a moral failure,” she wrote.

Federal government lacks “moral backbone”
That wasn’t the only time she openly questioned the morality of the Mark Carney Liberals.

During a November 2025 speech at Queen’s Park, she accused Israel of “weaponizing” the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas terror attacks to justify genocide, and accused Canada of being part of a “far-right coalition” spearheaded by Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Our federal government recognizes Palestine in words yet refuses to implement an arms embargo and impose sanctions on the Israeli government,” she said, according to the Hansard.

“Speaker, how many more children — how many more lives — must die before the Canadian government finds its moral backbone, the courage and conviction to stop sending arms and enabling this genocide?”

Deputy Conservative Leader Melissa Lantsman told the Sun it’s a question of values.

“The Liberals don’t have a candidate problem, I think in this case they have a values problem,” she said.

“Embracing someone who has repeatedly labelled Israel’s existence and self-defence as what she quotes as ‘genocide.’

Lantsman said it’s concerning that the Liberals’ response has been to welcome Begum into the party with open arms.

“That tells you everything you need to know,” she said.

Begum tells Sun she’s “inspired” by Mark Carney
In response to the Sun’s inquires, the federal Liberals stand by Begum as their candidate in Scarborough Southwest.

“Doly Begum has earned the trust of Scarborough voters in three provincial elections, and is ready to work with Mark Carney and our new Liberal team to build a better future for Scarborough Southwest and all Canadians,” read a statement from the party.

In a statement, Begum said she’s “inspired” by Carney’s vision for Canada, and said that she, at times, have felt governments like Canada weren’t moving quickly in regards to her concerns over Gaza.

“At the same time, I have seen Mark Carney’s new Liberal government strengthen Canada’s engagement in the region and come forward with meaningful humanitarian aid while advocating for a just and lasting peace,” the statement read.

“I will always use my voice to call for decisive, principled action in the region, while recognising the important role of coordinated multilateral efforts to deliver necessary change.”

OTTAWA — It’s no April Fool’s joke, and a taxpayers’ watchdog group wants it to end.

On April 1, members of Parliament will notice a significant bump on their paystubs, thanks to an annual, federally-mandated raise for all elected MPs.

That, according to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, will give MPs anywhere from an $8,800 to $17,600 raise in their annual pay.

“Taxpayers are disgusted by the automatic pay raise culture in Ottawa, and we expect our politicians to show leadership by saying ‘no’ to another helping of taxpayer cash,” said the CTF’s federal director Franco Terrazzano.

“Prime Minister Mark Carney told Canadians to brace for ‘sacrifices,’ so the least politicians could do is stop stuffing their own wallets with more taxpayers’ money.”

Salaries may increase by 4.2%
Currently, the basic annual salary for Canadian MPs is $209,800.

Those who hold cabinet posts or other senior positions are entitled to increases on top of their base salary.

Ministers earn an extra $99,900 annually, the same bonus awarded to the Speaker of the House.

The prime minister typically earns double the base MP salary — $419,600 currently.

Estimates provided by the CTF suggest salaries are set to increase by 4.2% this year, meaning base MP salaries could increase by $8,800, a cabinet minister could see an extra $13,000, and the PM could see an extra $17,600 in his take-home pay.

MPs have frozen salary increases before
It isn’t unheard of for governments to put the brakes on automatic MP pay raises.

In reaction to the 2008-09 global financial crisis, former PM Stephen Harper froze MPs salaries between 2010 and 2013.

MP salary raises, overseen by the House of Commons’ Board of Internal Economy, are based on average increases granted by large public sector companies.

“Canadians need MPs who will be champions for taxpayers and demand an end to these pay raises, because when politicians pad their pockets, bureaucrats demand more money too,” Terrazzano said.

“Real leadership would mean MPs cutting their pay, and, at the very least, politicians should put an end to the pay raises until the government stops borrowing money and starts paying down the debt.”

April Fools' Day, celebrated on April 1, has uncertain origins but is widely believed to stem from the 1582 switch from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar in France [1,
Britannica]. Those slow to receive the news continued celebrating New Year's in April, becoming targets of jokes and tricks [1, Britannica]. The tradition may also be linked to spring festivals like Hilaria, celebrating the vernal equinox and new life [1, Kingdom East School District].
  • Calendar Shift: When France adopted the Gregorian calendar, moving the new year from late March/April 1 to January 1, people who were slow to learn of or accept the change were labeled "April fools" [1, Britannica].
  • Vernal Equinox: The date aligns with early spring, a time often associated with confusion or trickery in nature, similar to ancient festivals where people played tricks on one another [1, Kingdom East School District].
