Are you sure? Some don't consider Mediterraneans to be white.
It comes and goes. The US timber barons finance both parties. We win in court, but can't seem to get justice in the political arena. The goal is to shift away from dependency on the US market, until they smarten up. It is US home buyers that are paying anyway. I'm wondering if the fires in California might change that.
You would think they would learn to build like the Mexicans do….Cinderblocks, concrete, Clay tile roofs, etc…

Folk tend to build outta what's handy. Wood, stone, breeze-block, sod, ice, hides, u.s.w.
True, to a point. Where I live, wood houses make sense. But, if you are going to import building materials, why not import the best?
Another reason why the terminally lazy like socialism.But living rent free certainly is.
Woodframe houses replaced cabins which were considered poverty buildings, those with more money built with brick and stone. Today money still lives in brick or stone and now steel and concrete as well.
Freight is freight. In most of the country you could make concrete block for less money than importing lumber from a few thousand miles away.
Most people can't think long term.
Ontario has everybody beat. By far.
Homelessness varies by province in Canada, with Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec having the most shelter beds.
In 2021, Ontario had 45% of emergency shelter beds, despite only having 38% of the population.
