No tarrifs. Who knew?
No tariffs, so far at this point. Has the threat of them gone away? If not then why?

The Wall Street Journal story that Donald Trump won’t impose broad tariffs on Day One of his presidency, instead ordering a review of trade and currency imbalances, was like a stay of execution.

It may only be temporary. After all, it’s unlikely that Trump has changed his mind about tariffs being “the greatest thing ever invented.”

But who knows how long an investigation into U.S. trade deficits might take?

At the very least, it gives Canada breathing space to resolve its domestic political dysfunction…
1737415038346.jpeg…and to continue to make the case that a trade war will push up the price of gas, groceries and home heating for American consumers.
Bloomberg has reported that tariffs are still on the agenda, likely introduced in a graduated form that increase by two to five per cent a month.

But even that sounds more like a negotiation than an all-out assault. A “senior Trump advisor” told the WSJ that the president will approach trade in a “measured way.”

Trump’s nominee for commerce secretary, Howard Lutnick, has previously said that tariffs will be used as bargaining chips. “We should put a tariff on stuff we make and not put tariffs on stuff we don’t make,” he told MSNBC’s Squawk Box…like Alberta’s heavy petroleum, or uranium or potash, or the aluminum it doesn’t have enough of, etc…but what does America make?

The “deferment” of Trump tariffs will give the Liberal party time to wrap up its truncated (& yet horribly timed) leadership race and may even allow for the general election campaign (if that’s in the Liberal/NDP cards) necessary to…

…restore political stability…preferably to a party that has the mandate of the people to run the country. 😳

Although tariffs will be studied rather than immediately imposed, the president also said he loves them to death (possibly ours).

He sees them as geopolitical tools, revenue sources and stimuli to an all-American economy that reboots manufacturing dominance.

He will cut taxes for Americans. The foreign cash from tariffs, paid to his new “external revenue agency,” will make up losses to the U.S. treasury.

All that was said on inauguration day. The pause does not mean Trump will fail to impose heavy tariffs, only that he’ll be somewhat more alert to the impact on U.S. economic sectors.

There are already tariffs on some goods in both directions.
Yes. Are those what are being discussed?
How exactly would the threat of tariffs go away? Tariffs have come and gone for centuries.
Are those the ones that are gonna be used to help balance the American checkbook?

The date comes after Trump officials, speaking anonymously, suggested to reporters that the Republican president would only sign a memorandum telling federal agencies to study trade issues, including alleged unfair trade and currency practices by Canada, Mexico and China.

I hear he signed a bunch of Executive Orders today that he promised during the campaign . MAGA .
Yeah, he pardoned the men who attacked Officer Brian Sicknick and pepper-sprayed him.

That's assault on a police officer, a felony.

I'm sure you're delighted.

Participants carried weapons including firearms, chemical sprays, stun guns, axes, baseball bats, a sword and a hockey stick. A female rioter was shot and killed by police inside the Capitol, and one officer succumbed to two strokes that were partly attributed to the stress of the attack. Three people died as a result of medical emergencies suffered during the riot. Four police officers later died by suicide.
And that's felony murder. But it's OK if you're a TrumpNazi.

Just one that is currently 4.5%. Auto parts. 0.5% less than what Canada dings the US. One auto component can have pieces from US, Canada Mexico, EU Japan etc. The component may be partially assembled in Canada, part in US and then cross a border again back to Canada, to the US and then end put on a vehicled assembled in Mexico. Under the USMCA, those tariffs are locked in.

It would take breaking the USMCA then regegotiating the tariffs. We are an MFN (trade speak for "most favoured nation: nation). That aint going away.

Youre buying hype.

In Washington, DC, the sentence for assaulting a police officer depends on whether the assault is a misdemeanor or a felony.

  • Misdemeanor
The sentence for a misdemeanor assault on a police officer is up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

  • Felony
The sentence for a felony assault on a police officer is up to ten years in jail and a $25,000 fine.

Factors that can affect the sentence
    • Severity of injury: If the officer is significantly injured, or the assault created a grave risk of significant injury, the charge is a felony.

    • Prior convictions: A history of violent crime could lead to a longer sentence.

    • Persistent felony offender: A persistent felony offender could face a life sentence.

Poor petros.

It's OK. I understand that you're ignorant and incapable of learning.

But here's a hint. . . the Capitol Police aren't DC cops. They're Feds.
