America has no Monarchy...so Hollywood becomes the replacement.
I don't think I would suggest Hollywood is the replacement but more along the lines of "fame?"

IE- People who are famous. So yes, originally it was just movie stars through Hollywood but when the Internet and social media arrived it showed that actual fame is what sets people as social leaders in the USA.

I'm visiting this forum as a distraction. My father has lung cancer and has about 2 weeks to live.

I actually feel sorry for the Royals in some ways...the golden handcuffs...etc.

My goal has always been to be 'behind-the-scenes successful'. I tell my own daughters to aspire to this as well. But of course, if they really can't help but being wonderful...then go for it!

I enjoy my day-to-day privacy too much to ever want to become famous or a spectacle.

I was hanging out with a friend of mine from the USA who was visiting and he was genuinely curious about King Charles and his thought was that Canadians are all excited about the new King.

I told him, honestly, I don't really care and don't think about it.

He was shocked and really though that Canadians cared a whole lot about the monarchy.

But it got me to thinking, am I alone in not really caring about them?
No I don't believe you are. I'm thinking that it's mostly English transplants that care more about them than Canadians but I cud be wrong. Maybe older Canadians??

I think you are right about the English transplants. There seem to be two kinds from England. Those that want to expand the "empire" , and those that came here to get away from all that. Victoria has a high % of transplants and a high % that want to keep the monarchy. the rest of the province, not so much.
