Who else thinks it’s time to put Terry Fox on the $5 bill?

For years now I've been saying The Canadian Mint should issue a $99.00 Gretzky coin. His jersey number after all was 99.

I like the idea of Fox on the fiver.

I believe Terry’s picture should be on something more substantial than a $5 bill. At least a $50.

So who's Terry Fox? Some Paralympics cripple?
A national hero. Lost a leg to cancer. Decided to run from Newfoundland to Vancouver to raise money for cancer. He made it to Thunder Bay and his cancer came back, so he had to abandon the run. On June 28, 1981 he died from the cancer and our nation mourned his loss deeply. He was a good kid. I'm getting choked up writing this.

Obviously, I admire and honour him. As I do anybody who wakes up every morning with a condition that puts them behind the curve, and gets out of bed and slugs it out through another day as best they can.

Like you, I've known a lot of GIs, and known them well. And I did much of it in a time when the military was a wildly unpopular choice, and many of the ones we got were pretty much the scrapings of the barrel. And the percentage of these "suckers and losers" --Donald J Trump, held the goddam line and contained the Soviet Union until their internal shit crashed the Communist Dream and the world became, for a time, a safer place.

THAT kind of "courage" is what I value. And M Fox had it by the carload. I'll check the internet for a charity in his name and shoot off a check. Unless you have a favorite to recommend.
