Brexiteer Lee Anderson has just been promoted to Vice-chairman of the Tory Party by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Anderson has already caused outrage amongst the Left for his outspoken views in favour of Brexit and against all things woke, but the Brexiteer's latest stance on the death penalty has really got liberal salt flowing.

A poll shows 53% of Britons are in favour of the death penalty's return...

I'm all for it. Under very specific circumstances though. None of that "beyond reasonable doubt" shit, there'd have to be zero doubt whatsoever.

Therein lies the rub. I have no problem with the concept - i could put a gun to a molester's head and pull the trigger myself and sleep like a baby that night. But - after looking into wrongful convictions AND looking at how many bad guys walk when the powers that be do it right - there is NO benefit to giving the state the power of life and death over us.

You think Justin Trudeau would manage that well? The guy who declared the modern version of martial law on some guys with a bouncy castle?

I support life in prison with no parole tho - at least if it turns out the cops manufactured evidence later on we can give the guy SOME of his life back.

And every time. No plea deals, no turning state's evidence to get out of it, etc.

In the Sonnier rape/murder case, one brother got death, the other got life in prison for "cooperating," despite the fact that the "cooperating" brother was most likely the one who pulled the trigger.

There is no such thing tho. We (as in you and me) believe pickton is 100 percent guilty because of what the police told us. But - what if they lied? They've done that before when they wanted to catch someone they "knew" was the guilty guy - fabricated evidence that made it look like someone was guilty when they weren't. And more than a few times i might point out.

Then there's cases like the guy who PRETENDED to be an expert on child injuries (in bc i believe) and put dozens and dozens behind bars arguing that in his professional opinion he was 100 percent sure the evidence pointed to child shaking etc and it was all 100 percent bullshit - but the jury believed him (and why not, he's the "expert") and locked the people up. It was years later when he was exposed.

We can never be 100 percent sure and it's VERY easy to manipulate us. WE have to rely on the word of other people. So we should always assume they MIGHT be lying and make sure that if it does turn out they are some day that we havne't killed an innocent man.

Fun fact, they are now pretty positive the last man killed by capital punishment in Canada was innocent.
