Trucker protest at U.S. border crossing reportedly several kilometres long

The last couple weeks have been crazy and I’m tired. Trying to stay ahead of the protesters at the borders and juggling about 30 different trucks and drivers around all this insanity….& then trying to juggle around the government switching rules with respect to ArriveCAN, and this goddamn DEF/DPF environmental bullshit that just doesn’t function in a Northern climate.

I’d like to come here and kind of catch up on what’s happened with respect to the bigger picture instead of micromanaging putting out little fires all over Hells half acre, but from the little bit of reading I’ve been able to do…. I already know how to insult people so I’m not learning anything new.

Now I’m assuming that Trudeau hasn’t tried to talk to anybody yet and probably won’t. I have had the time to read a headline from today that states that it’s illegal to take your children with you to one of these protests now…. So that sure sounds like a vague threat.

How is this all going to end folks? Where is the light at the end of the tunnel?

Trudeau won't because that'd be 'caving to them' which is fucking stupid but it's Trudeau.

I think the reason they don't want kids there is an increased chance of violence as the EMA gets enforced. Plus, kids should NEVER have been there to begin with, IMO.

It won't end well for anyone; for the truckers who continue to look like a mob of Karens to the Government who will be held to task for invoking the EMA (whether legit reasons or not), I won't be shocked if it does get ugly.

But then I can't help but think, after 3 weeks and locals getting pissed over this BS, what else could be done BUT invoke the EMA? They've been told to leave both by Government, police AND locals. Yet they're still there. If this were a group of Natives or BLM or whatever, there'd be riots now and claims from the Right that something should'a been done on day one (and of course the usuals will deny it).

Children's Aid Society of Ottawa warns parents of 'potential police action'

The Children's Aid Society of Ottawa put out a statement Wednesday urging parents at the demonstration to make alternate care arrangements "should they become unable to care for their children following potential police action."

"CASO has a mandate to protect a child when their parent becomes unavailable to exercise their custodial rights over the child and the parent has not made adequate provision for the child's care and custody," said the statement.

"If parents and children are separated following police efforts in ending the demonstration in the downtown core, CASO will work to reunite families as soon as possible."

At the start of the week, the federal government invoked the Emergencies Act for the first time since its passage in 1988. The move gives the government new powers to address anti-vaccine mandate protesters tying the city in knots — including the authority to ban travel to protest zones and prohibit people from bringing minors to unlawful assemblies.

The new measures came into effect Monday and prohibit public assemblies that disrupt the movement of people, goods and trade, or that support the "threat or use of acts of serious violence against persons or property."

The temporary measures also include:
Fines amounting to thousands of dollars or jail time for those bringing children under the age of 18 to participate in an unlawful assembly.

The same penalties for anyone who participates in the blockades or brings aid — such as food or fuel — to people involved (& I guess those people would include little people or younger people?)

Again, I think Trudeau et al are damned if they do, damned if they don't.

The truckers forced their hand for this IMO.

They couldn't be left as they were because despite repeated requests and then orders to leave, they weren't.

This COULD be worse, much worse, but for now it's still pretty damn tame comparatively. Think the only thing saving this from being the usual water cannons, gas and so on used to push the truckers out is where this is. And with the kids involved (which I think are being used as pawns by some at least, a "don't do this because of the children!" excuse).

We, our fleet, doesn’t have time for these games. We’re busy, and have been absolutely swamped since about 3 months into Covid. Beyond swamped!

Doesn’t mean they’re not opinionated but all but two are at least double vaccinated. We’re way too busy to screw around. I’ve no idea how the few truckers (with tractors in Ottawa) can afford to be there & I’m not talking about go-fund-me stuff…but their obligations to their customers and contracts who will go bankrupt or go elsewhere to stay afloat. No customers = no livelihood.

Those outside the industry would be blown away to actually fathom the insurance costs or maintenance costs or fuel costs or equipment costs and so on & so forth, and these costs don’t stop when they’re out protesting instead of generating the constant revenue needed to not become insolvent. These are tough shitty times without this goat rodeo on top of things.
