I’ve got a load (this is one of 30 trucks) set up already (these all have to be set up in advance electronically for specific borders, or if the driver arrives at the border without it being set up with the correct notice, the carrier gets an automatic $2000 fine as a starting point in fines by CBSA) to cross into Canada Saturday PM/SundayAM at Peace Bridge going into Mississauga (so that it avoids the Windsor Detroit protest) & there are rumours of that border crossing getting hit this weekend now….

It’s much easier to get around this nonsense in Western Canada because you don’t have to work around the Great Lakes.

I have contingency plans and check-in points for a pile of loads coming out from south of the Great Lakes into Western Canada. How do you work around these damn lakes though on top of the largest percentage of the population of the country so more yahoos to block off fewer entry points???

This is the reason I was up at 5:30 AM on a Saturday morning just to try and put my finger on the pulse of this stupidity in eastern Canada and working out more contingency plans (1000 Islands Crossing, Way out of the way, taking way more time and way more fuel, and not any guarantee that it’s not going to get choked up in this nonsense also?).

Valid points. I'll admit, I didn't think of that. I actually feel for guys like him caught up in this bullshit.

(And usually, no, I don't like Boom that much but sometimes he does shockingly make sense even if he's a selfish asshole)

The issue though is that BLM and this are not even close to being the same.

Plus, no one was sporting flags of "Fuck Trudeau" even before they got there.

Despite that; he's a fucking chickenshit twat who could have 'met' with people in other ways but instead he's avoiding the issue.

My point of view is limited and probably misses many aspects of the situation. I ain't a trucker, and I ain't Canadian.

But seems pretty clear to me there's a mix of issues here.

First is the vax itself. Some folk genuinely believe, rightly or wrongly, that the vax is useless and possibly dangerous. And they believe there's a right of personal autonomy contained in or implied by the Charter or the common law. And they believe that the vax mandate punishes a choice that's theirs to make.

Second is a more nebulous notion that the government should not be mandating things unless there's a clear, indisputable connection between what they're proposing to mandate and what the problem is. The way our courts put it is "a compelling government interest and narrowly tailored to serve that interest with a minimum intrusion on the rights of the people."

There may be other things, but the third thing I'm thinking of is a widespread dissatisfaction with "the way things are going." I know that's not very helpful, but it's important. Revolutions are caused by an un-analyzed dissatisfaction with "the way things are going." If you're in power and sit there and insist that you will only listen to problems that are clearly stated on a nice little list, you have no-one but yourself to blame when they storm the Bastille or fire on the redcoats.

You hit a lot of it on the nail , but are missing the two classes of citizenship with the mandates . For many the passports are the issue .

The problem here is Trudeau. For him, this is no longer about mandates and protests, it's ALL about power for him. He's like P.C. Principle with pajama day. He made a STUPID decision to not even engage with any of the protestors and now won't back down from that because he's afraid it'll make him look weak. That's pretty typical behaviour of a tin pot dictator. Admitting you were wrong isn't a sign of weakness, it's an admission that you aren't perfect. The fact that Groper is acting like he is is just proof that he is indeed a weak, gutless coward with a serious superiority complex.

What we need to do is just put 'so-called' in front of every right-wing viewpoint. It gives it that contextual flavour that is the real spice to the meat.
