There is already a shortage in truckers.. now there will be a bigger shortage and cost of goods more expensive and bare shelves
Some Truckers quit over ELD’s, some will quit over this too, and most (the experienced ones anyway) will retire out in the next 10-15 years anyway leaving….a much larger driver shortage.

Ever increasing regulations & ever increasing operational costs will chase out more from the industry also. It’s going to get pretty ugly in the not too distant future.

Young people entering the workforce are not finding blue collar work particularly attractive it seems, everybody wants to be a computer this or a financial that. The not too distant future will be pretty rosy for those who don't mind geting their hands a little dirty, all the cadillacs and corvettes will be parked in front of the plumbers' and electricians' houses.

What do you think these truckers are basing their decision on ? Professional, expert advice, or something they read on facebook ?

First airline pilots, then it will be truckers..

But what is really interesting is the MSM blackout on all these anti-Vaccine and anti-Mask protests and walkouts…

For anyone not in the transportation industry already or in the recent past would not believe how heavily regulated it is with more coming all the time, & it all costs…& the trucks & trailers & taxes & fees & carbon taxes on top of things & permits & toll roads and bridges & insurance & repair and maintenance costs are only going up up up.

Repair shops (for example) are all trying to make up for 18 months of slower times with super-gouging and 100% of their time billed out, & $160/hour/person is an average Canadian shop rate….plus a mandatory 8-10% of the Labor total (the Vig) billed out again as “Shop Supplies” but every screw & zip tie billed out for already & itemized on the invoice…& they’re ALL doing it. This I mention just as an example of costing the transport industry into extinction.

No Shit Sherlock there’s a Trucking & Driver Shortage….& it’s not going to get any better anytime soon. Rates have got to go up (which will make everything more expensive, but will probably save us all money & grief in the long run).

Not to mention unpaid waiting time .

As lockdowns have lifted, demand has rocketed. And supply chains that were disrupted during the global health crisis are still facing huge challenges and are struggling to bounce back.

This has led to chaos for the manufacturers and distributors of goods who cannot produce or supply as much as they did pre-pandemic for a variety of reasons, including worker shortages and a lack of key components and raw materials.

Unfortunately, experts like Moody's Analytics' Tim Uy say that supply chain problems "will get worse before they get better."

(This sounds familiar)

"Supply will likely play catch up for some time, particularly as there are bottlenecks in every link of the supply chain—labor certainly, as mentioned above, but also containers, shipping, ports, trucks, railroads, air and warehouses."

If a trucker gets his or her finances in order, & orders a new truck today…they will probably first see it sometime in 2023, & there’s no guarantee that the price agreed to today will be honoured by the manufacturer when the truck is ready for delivery (by another trucker) in 2023…

We have a bunch of new fire trucks coming from Ft. Gary. Our Regional District made a purchase agreement last year. Supposed to be Western Star chasis, but WS cannot supply, so we are forced to get Freightliners again. Something no one really wanted.

We ordered 2 Freightliners in January, they where supposed to arrive in June…but showed up in September.

The Freightliner Salesman stopped into our Office in June though to say that if we wanted more we’d better order them then to have them arrive in 2023.
