Many people in the West think that Prophet Mohammed was the messenger to the Arab.. true, but Mohammed was also sent as a messenger to Jews and Christians.
Jews and Christians distorted their religion and denied many religious statements.
Christians even contradicted the First Commandment: Our God is One without associate, and Christians claimed God has a son and that God is one part of a Trinity.
Jews and Christians concealed many religious statements and opposed many others: like drinking the wine, abandoning the washing after sexual intercourse, taking the usury and interest, etc.
So God sent Prophet Mohammed as a messenger to Jews and Christians to explain these things to them and to correct their distortions.
Quran 5: 15-16 , which mean:
(15. People of the Bible [: Jews and Christians], now has Our messenger [Mohammed] come expounding to you many things in the Book [or the Bible] that you were concealing, and many things else he disregards. There has come to you light from God and a clear 'Book' [: the Quran.]

16. Whereby God guides him who seeks His good pleasure to the paths of safety, and brings them out of darkness to light with His leave, and guides them to a straight path.)

The reason why God sent Mohammed as a messenger to Jews and Christians:
Quran 5: 19, which means:
(People of the Bible [: Jews and Christians], now [Mohammed] Our messenger to you has come, to explain many things a to you, after a cessation of messengers b, so that you cannot say [after you die and go to the ether world]: "We did not receive any [messenger] to give us good news c and to warn us d." [For Mohammed] has now come to give you good news and to warn you e. God is All-Able to do everything. f)

Why God sends His messengers to people:
This is to be an argument that He send His messenger so that the idolaters and disbelievers will not say on Judgment Day: God, had you sent us a messenger, we could have been rightly guided.

Quran 20: 134, which means:
(Had We destroyed them with a punishment before it, they would have said: "Our Lord, if only You had sent to us a messenger, we should certainly have followed Your revelations before we were humbled and put to shame.")

Therefore, there has been the need for a new messenger [: Mohmmed] to be sent to Jews and Christians:

So these groups of people have become followers of traditions, not of the heavenly book.
Therefore, you are mixing between Muslims and the Quran teachings, and the others with their Bible teachings.

What we see now of the deterioration of Muslim countries is not because of the Quran, neither the development of Christian countries is because they follow the teachings of the Bible.

At the present time, God set Christians (and Jews to some extent) on Muslims as a punishment and discipline, (because Muslims have fallen in the worship of the tombs of imams, and they abandoned the Quran teachings),
as did God set the King of Babylon on Jews in the past and He destroyed them completely, like how God set Assure, and the Roman-Byzantine Leader Titus on Jews and they devastated them and as He set Hitler on them later on (when Jews glorified the tombs of their sages and prophets, and they abandoned the Torah teachings.)

Quran 7: 179, which means:
(167. [Remember, O Mohammed] that your Lord did [many times] give permission [requested by the enemies of Jews] that He would send against [Jews] till the Doomsday, those who should visit them with evil chastisement;

[O Mohammed] your Lord surely is Swift at punishment [for wrong-doers], Most Forgiving [to those who repent], and Most Merciful [to those who regret.]

168. And We dispersed them throughout the earth [to abase and disgrace them] as nations [with different languages]; some of them righteous [with their acts] and some of them otherwise [: not righteous], and We tried them [sometimes] with prosperity and [other times] with adversity, so that they might desist [from their infidelity and trespass.])

In fact, Prophet Mohammed came to the Arab who were idolaters, and to Jews and Christians and conveyed the message of the Quran to them from God, so a large number of Christians converted, while only a little number of Jews converted.

Quran 2: 88, which means:
(But God has cursed them [: Jews] for their blasphemy,
so it is only a few [of them] who will believe [in you, Mohammed.])
