Today's decision by Encana to move to the U.S. is not isolated.

It reflects the broader decline of the Canadian energy industry at the hands of the Trudeau government.

Mr. Kenney said the Prime Minister must wake up to what he described as deep anger in Alberta and Saskatchewan about the way the provinces have been treated by Ottawa. He listed off a series of thwarted or cancelled energy projects to buttress his arguments.
“It is the same government that cancelled the approved Northern Gateway [Pipeline] arbitrarily … it is the same federal government that killed Energy East after $1 billion had been spent by TC Energy … It was the same federal government that completely surrendered to President [Barack] Obama’s veto of the Keystone XL pipeline in 2015,” he said.
“It is the same federal government that brought in a no-more pipelines law,” he said, referring to Bill C-69, legislation that he argued, if not amended, would make the Trans-Mountain project the last coastal access pipeline.

The Alberta premier also suggested Mr. Trudeau should not reappoint Catherine McKenna as environment minister, saying she is anti-pipeline.

Mr Trudeau has been around for 5 years. Mr Kenney just got elected.

Who is more likely to be the reason for leaving.

Jason Thomas Kenney PC MLA (born May 30, 1968) is a Canadian politician, currently serving as the 18th Premier of Alberta since 2019, and leader of the United Conservative Party in Alberta since 2017. He was the last leader of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta, before the party's merger with the Wildrose Party and subsequent dissolution later that year. He was elected the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Calgary-Lougheed in a by-election held on December 14, 2017.
He previously represented the riding of Calgary Midnapore in the House of Commons of Canada from 1997 until 2016 (known as Calgary Southeast until 2015). Initially elected as a candidate of the Reform Party of Canada, Kenney was re-elected as a Canadian Alliance candidate in 2000, and then re-elected four times as the candidate of the Conservative Party of Canada.

He's been around for quite a while. As part of Harper's cabinet, he has been part of the problem for over a decade.

Trudeau. He just got re-elected and Encana went "F*ck this noise. Not putting up with another 4 years of maybe, maybe not."

But yeah, a guy who is pro-oil is the reason another oil company is bailing on Alberta. You know how those oil execs just HATE pro-oil politicians. Seriously, do you have a filter where you think before you speak or do you just spew out the first bit of leftard rhetoric that your puny mind can generate?

Some company with foreign owners will take over the Canadian properties. Only a few years ago it was Arabs that were buying up the older claims, which included reclamation to 2015 standards. Directional drilling with 10 holes per site were just being developed then as well.

There were articles in the Financial Post from 3 years ago about companies leaving for the US from out of Ontario.

It's going to happen. I'm all for making the environment green but not at the cost of losing businesses headquarters to the states because we want to suicide big money in certain industries.

Encana and Husky are keenly aware that money talks and bullshit walks.... They are voting with their money and it will be Ottawa and Eastern Canada that will be feeling the pinch with fewer tax dollars in their pocket
