Are prophets infallible?

God is the only one that is infallible; all other beings, being restricted in every aspect, are not infallible; i.e. they can commit mistakes.

A man objected, and said: "it can't be a prophet and yet fallible."
Another one asserted: "Prophet Mohammed was infallible!"

I said: Do you read the Quran?

He said: Yes.

I said to him: There are many ayat in the Quran, like this one:

[It is narrated that a vessel with honey was presented to one of the wives of the Prophet, and she used to give him to drink out of it, every time he came to her, and the Prophet started to sit longer with her.

Then when his wife Âyshah knew about that, she made an agreement with the rest of his wives, and they made a trick for the Prophet; so they consulted each other and plotted that each one of them should say to the Prophet when he came to her: “I smell the odor of urfut in your mouth” which is a bad smell.

So when the Prophet saw the unanimity of his wives about such words, he thought that what they said was true, and that the honey which he drank had the bad smell of urfut; therefore, he swore that he would not afterwards drink the honey, neither would he go to his wife who gave him the honey.

Therefore, this aya was revealed, including the admonishing of the Prophet with some reproof for his forbidding himself the honey.]

Quran 66: 1, which means:
(O prophet, why do you prohibit [for yourself] that which God has made lawful to you, just to please your wives a?

But God is Most Forgiving [for you], Most Merciful [to you.])

The meaning: you seek to please them by forbidding for yourself the honey and the coming in to the one who gave you the honey to drink.

All prophets and messengers (apostles) of God are obedient to God .. but they may commit some simple disobedient acts (sins) and that is by God's knowledge: God permits the occurrence of such mistake of the prophet or apostle (without telling them or preventing them so that they may desist) .. in order to explain to people that the prophets and apostles (including Jesus) are only human beings like other people:

they eat food vegetables and meat.. and they drink water, milk and juices .. and so they urinate and defecate like other people .. and this including Jesus Christ who ate before his disciples.

God could have told the prophet or apostle, by means of some angels or by revelation, that such act was bad, but God did not tell the prophet such warning so that the prophet went on and committed that mistake .. in order to let people know that the prophet is only a human being and he is not infallible.. I heard this from Abu Abd- Allah

Examples of the wrong act of some apostles and prophets:

1- Adam disobeyed God when he approached the Raspberry tree and ate of its fruit... then he repented and God accepted his repentance.
2- Noah intermediated or interceded for his grandson Canaan, and God warned him of such intercession for disbelievers .. so he repented and asked God's forgiveness.
3- Abraham asked God how He can revive the dead, and then wrangled with the angels who came to destroy Lot's people, and he asked forgiveness for his father the idolater (he though his father would convert)
4- Moses asked God to show him Himself openly to see him with his own eyes (this was according to the deceit of his people the hypocrites), and Moses killed the Coptic before he was sent as an apostle to Pharaoh.
5- David sent Uriah the Hittite to the battle so as he might be killed, in order to marry his widow after his death.
6- Solomon was about to be tricked by his wife the idolatress when he saw her idol on his chair in his palace.
7- Jonah ran away and did not go immediately to the people of Nineveh, because he was afraid of them.
8- Jesus Christ prayed that God might send down to them a table spread with food from heaven, according to his disciples insisting request.. then they refrained from such request.
9- Mohammed released the captives of his first battle and did not kill them which was a mistake to have captives on the first battle (which was the main cause of their loss in the second battle).. might be because his uncle Abbas was among the captives.

The last point about the mistake of Prophet Mohammed - salam to him - is explained in the Quran 8: 67-68, which means:

[When they brought the captives of the Battle of Bad'r, the Prophet said to his companions: "If you like, you may kill them; and if you like, you may take their ransom."
They said: "It is better we take the ransom, with which we strengthen ourselves against our enemy."
So they took the ransom, and released them.

Therefore, God censured them with this aya:]

(Quran 8: 67. It has not been for any prophet to take captives [of the associaters: to take their ransom] until he makes a wide slaughter [of the associaters, and has dominion over them] in the land.

You [Muslims] desire to have the temporal [property] of this World,
but God wishes for [you] the endresult,
for God is All-Mighty, Most Wise.

68. Had it not been for [your victory] ordained by God [with which He had promised you] before,
a great affliction would have touched you [by your enemies] on account of [the ransom] that you [Muslims] took [to free the captives of the Battle of Badr.])

It is not bullshit.

God 'employees' are honest, but never like God Himself: God is the Absolute Perfect Supreme while all others including Jesus and the rest of the prophets are defective restricted and limited.

So God's employees are honest .. surely, but they have flaws (because they are human beings like the rest of people: they eat, drink and relieve nature) and their mistakes are corrected for them by God Most Gracious when they repent and ask forgiveness and correct their mistake as much as they can.

And God explains about their mistakes so that people may also avoid such mistakes .. which is not of course the disbelief or the idolatry or the insisting on sins and mistakes.
