The People's Vote campaign has been accused of "overestimating" by Brexiteers after claiming one million people took part in a march through London in support of a second referendum.

Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators yesterday walked from Park Lane to Parliament Square on the 'Put It To The People March' holding placards which read 'Brexit is Rubbish', 'Revoke Article 50' and 'We Love EU'.

The group has previously been accused of trying to mislead politicians and voters about its level of support.

The People's Vote campaign has been accused of "overestimating" by Brexiteers after claiming one million people took part in a march through London in support of a second referendum.

Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators walked from Park Lane to Parliament Square on the 'Put It To The People March' holding placards which read 'Brexit is Rubbish', 'Revoke Article 50' and 'We Love EU'.

The demonstration followed the launch of an online petition calling on the Government to revoke Article 50 which last night had been signed by four million people.

People's Vote, the campaign group which organised the rally, said more than one million people took part and it was one of the biggest protests in British history.

The group has previously been accused of trying to mislead politicians and voters about its level of support.

A debriefing document prepared by the Greater London Authority put the number of attendees at October's People’s Vote rally at 250,000 - significantly below the campaign group's claim that they were joined by more than 700,000 people.

MPs have now criticised the group's latest turnout claims and suggested the group are spreading "dubious" figures.

Peter Bone, Conservative MP for Wellingborough and part of the Brexit select committee, told The Telegraph: "I'm not really sure it can be called a People's March - it's hardly a march and more of a social gathering.

"I very much doubt the turnout figure is correct given they got their numbers wrong before.

"There were 17.4 million people who voted to leave the EU, so the protesters don't represent the country as a whole."

Marcus Fysh, Conservative MP for Yeovil, told The Telegraph: "They've obviously developed this march as a propaganda exercise so I wouldn't be surprised if they had overestimated their turnout figure.

"Let's be honest - they are marching against democracy and the implementation of a democratic referendum result.

"They are trying to set up a second vote where Remain is on the ballot. A 'final say' is not what they want - they want to reverse the result.

"This is a putsch that is going on this week."

The protest comes after the European Union agreed to delay the UK's departure. Meanwhile more than four million people have signed a petition calling on the Government to cancel Brexit.

People's Vote claimed there were so many people at the march that some protesters were at a standstill for 'at least an hour'.

A spokesperson said:"Our estimate is based on professional expert advice and whatever the exact number, there can be no doubt that this ranks as one of the greatest protests - possibly the biggest ever – that this country has ever seen.

"We have no doubt that this march is bigger than the last with our early estimate putting the size of the crowd at around 1 million."

The day's activities were kicked off by the unfurling of a large banner on Westminster Bridge that read "Love socialism, hate Brexit".

March attendees included Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Labour MP David Lammy and Sherlock Holmes star Eddie Marsan.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan called for Article 50 to be revoked, telling crowds: "With days to go we're in danger of falling of the cliff, which will have catastrophic consequences."

Ms Sturgeon told protesters that the Prime Minister had pitched "parliament against the people".

Labour's deputy leader Tom Watson told the crowd: "At every turn we have been ignored. At every stage Theresa May has doubled down rather than reaching out.

"She has made it impossible for anyone who cares about jobs, about solidarity at home and abroad, about friendship across borders and between communities to support this Brexit."

The London march coincided with pro-Brexit campaigners continuing their March To Leave hike from Sunderland to the capital.

They hope to arrive on March 29 - the original Brexit day.

Former Ukip leader Nigel Farage told around 200 Brexit supporters that Theresa May had reduced the nation "to a state of humiliation".

And if you get your way, Nicola, and overturn the decision the British people made in 2016 and you get your way again and get a second Scottish independence referendum and the Scottish people vote to leave the UK then the British Government could then justifiably turn round and say: "Sorry, Nicola. We're ignoring the result. We're overturning the decision and giving you a taste of your own medicine." Or does that escape your little mind?

You or any other Scottish nationalist overturning Brexit would be disastrous for the cause of Scottish nationalism. You can't overturn one referendum and then demand that yours is respected if goes your way.

it could all be settled
just let the people vote

Dominic Frisby - "17 Million F*ck Offs" (2019)

Lyrics

On the 23rd of June, 2016
The people of the United Kingdom - and Gibraltar - went to vote
On an issue that for some had been burning for years
The question in full - and unaltered - was - I quote

Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union
or leave the European Union?

It was the greatest democratic turnout in British history, I do not scoff
And when the time came to speak the British said f*ck off.
F*ck off.

Campaigning had gone on for many a month
With debate and discussion on many a front
They’d argued they’d fought they’d smeared and pulled stunts
There was David Cameron. Theresa May. George Osborne.
Tony Blair. John Major. The BBC.
The British told them to f*ck off. The British told them to f*ck off.

If you vote to leave, you’ll lose your job
Vote to leave, you’ll lose your home.
The ensuing recession will last for years
Said David Cameron. Theresa May. George Osborne.
And the Treasury. Tony Blair. John Major. The BBC.
The Bank of England. Mark Carney. The EU. The IMF. The US president. Saint Obama. Back of the cue. Loads of celebrities. Gary Lineker. JK Rowling. Benedict Cumbertwat. Lord Adonis. Who the ****’s he anyway?
The British told them to f*ck off. Seventeen million f*ck offs.

They wheeled in the experts to tell us what’s right
They gave us the benefit of their foresight
To leave is calamitous, that’s definite.
Food shortages. No medicine. Planes grounded. House price crash. ½ a million jobs lost. Cost of £4,300 to every home. Stock market collapse. Riots. No sandwiches. There’d be an outbreak of super gonorrhea. They seriously said that. Donald Tusk at the EU said it would be the end of Western civilization as we know it. I’m not joking. And one more thing. If you vote to leave, that makes you racist.
The British told them to f*ck off. Seventeen million f*ck offs.

The vote is final, there’s no going back
Although now they want to go back and re-vote
I think we know what the answer will be
To Gary Lineker. Alastair Campbell. Dominic Grieve. Chuka Umana. Keir Starma. Vince Cable. Anna Soubry (not a Nazi). Rory Bremner. Armando Ianucci. Delia Smith. Steve Coogan. David Lammy. Lord Adonis. Who the ****’s he anyway?
The British will tell them f*ck off. 17 million f*cks offs.

Big Brexiteer band The Who clash with a Sky News reporter who ludicrously asks them: "How are you going to tour in Europe because of Brexit?"

The Who?

The Who won't let the people vote?

No wonder nobody has heard of them in 40 years.

If the UK crashes out with a no deal, I could see only one reasonable way out.

First, unilateral global free trade in tariffs and quotas. That would at least soften the blow... somewhat.

Secondly, in order to not disrupt the UK labour market, unilaterally recognize an EU passport as equal to a work, study, and business visa.

Then start to negotiate a more comprehensive trade agreement with any interested party.

Even that would be painful for at least the next fifteen years of transition if not much longer, and it's uncertain that it would totally compensate for the Common Market, but that would be your best bet.

In 2018, Roger Daltrey attacked fellow musicians such as Ed Sheeran and Bob Geldof who bizarrely said that British bands will find it difficult to tour Europe after Brexit:

“We did it in those days [before the foundation of the EU]”, he admitted. “It might be a bit more paperwork on this side of the Channel. I’m sure they can make it hard if they want to but these things work both ways.”

It comes after Daltrey previously voiced his support for Brexit, blaming a lack of “democratic accountability”.

“It’s nothing that can’t be solved”, he explained. “I mean we used to work in Europe before Europe was even thought about, or the EU was even thought about. We had the golden period of the 60s and the 70s. Come on, you know, wake up a bit. I’m not against Europe at all, it’s Brussels and the construct of Brussels and the democratic deficit of it.

“There’s not a direct link between the voter and to get through to those people that run our lives and there’s far too many people on far too many gravy trains soaking us dry.”

Roger Daltrey IQ: 150. Bob Geldof IQ: 50

I have no idea what you're talking about. Do you honestly think that a yes vote for Scottish independence would mean Scotland just leaves? Think how integrated you are. You'd still need ti negotiate who keeps what UK government assets, who takes what persentage of UK debt. Then there's the question of citizenship. Would anyone born the day after independence have a separate citizenship and passport, or anyone born only one year after independence so as to give parents time to relicate if they wish?

For those born before independence, how will the two states cooperate in defining that common citizenship?

And then there's trade and everything else. I assume many cross-border marriages exist too.

With so much to begotiate, would it not make sense to then let the skottish people vote on the final agreement?

If you honestly don't recognize the complexity of it, no wonder Brexit is a mess.

And there you have it. Brexit will create a boom in the customs, visa, and paperwork industry.

More Londoners voted for Brexit than voted for you to be their mayor, Sadiq.

We should revoke you.

How do Canadian artists like Nickelback and Shania Twain get on when they want to tour EU countries? Must be a real pain in the backside for them. Goodness know how they manage it.

I'm hoping that if Brexit is overturned that a second Scottish referendum, if there ends up being one, will also be overturned if they vote for independence. I hope it'd just be simply ignored.

I know who The Who are. They've sold over 100 million records worldwide and are one of the most influential rock bands of all time.

Keith Moon was voted the second-greatest drummer of all time (after Led Zeppelin's John Bonham) and loved to trash hotel rooms and blow up toilets with dynamite.
