'Shoot first' is not a law, it's a $75 ticket, $150 if it is before 7AM or after 11PM. Not being a good aim is pretty much a death sentence anytime.

The US is also further from the Arctic Circle than Canada Is. What %'age Canada's population lives with 160km's of the 49th parallel? Why does less than 10% of the Canadian population live above the 51st parallel?
The majority because they were born there .

About half of Canada's population lives south of a third of the USA.

Yes, in Canada's dong. Most people don't plan on retiring to someplace with 1/2 a year of winter and enough snow to cause a heart attack in the first year of retirement. It's no accident that population density follows coastlines and/or warmth....even in cold countries.

I live on a coastline and the climate is quite nice here, most of the year ... not much snow, either.

Do you have plans to retire into the Siberian Interior to escape the the moderate climate and easy living? If not would it be for similar reasons to why 90%+ of the Canadian population lives south of the 51st parallel do ya' figure? People that where born in Canada south of the 51st parallel that still live south of the 51st parallel had ancestors that made that decision for them would be my guess.

I live here because I can find employment, here. My ancestors settled in Upper Canada as refugees from four different persecutions and they also settled in Saskatchewan because it was the land of opportunity.

This part of the country was settled in the manner that it was because of the quality of agriculture here where we have good loamy soils and are in the same climate zone as that of North Carolina. The Great Lakes have had a huge influence on settlement patterns. If the Great Lakes were in the middle of Asia, there would be a billion plus people clustered around them.
