"Our intelligence agencies continue to assess all information, but it could very well be that the Crown Prince had knowledge of this tragic event — maybe he did and maybe he didn't!" Trump's statement reads. "That being said, we may never know all of the facts surrounding the murder of Mr. Jamal Khashoggi. In any case, our relationship is with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
POTUS' remarks, however, haven't been accepted warmly by politicians on either side of the aisle. Fumed, Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) took to Twitter on Tuesday, writing, "I never thought I'd see the day a White House would moonlight as a public relations firm for the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia."

For anybody who is interested- the QUICKEST WAY to end the flood of Fake News is to take all the electronic gizmos AWAY FROM LIE-berals and from Muslims!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Idiots on this site want to blame Trump for the trade war with China!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Cdn LIE-berals want to PRETEND they can repair our economy by doing deals with China!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIE-BERAL MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

China eats our lunch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like school yard bullies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is an article illustrating the HUGE economic mess that LIE-berals have made of international trade. The article illustrates that trade and job issues can not be sorted out by giving control over to a committee made up of LIE-beral loons such as Our idiot Boy Justin and a cabal of third world despots from places like China, Russia and Iran! With some comments of my own in brackets):

David T. Jones, Special to Postmedia Network. For centuries there was no question of trade being for “mutual benefit”.

Rather, states sought colonies, essentially for exploitation, to extract useful material from at low prices, while dumping excess industrial products manufactured in the “mother country” at high cost.

Ostensibly, economic theory eventually moved on to “mutual benefit” with the emphasis on “comparative advantage”, wherein each country provides the products it produces most efficiently and a trade balance results.

This theory falters when countries with effectively nothing worthy of trade end up borrowing from those countries who still push products upon them. The resulting debt loads have economy-distorting consequences for both borrowers and lenders.

(Much of our current trade problem is related to credit. In a gold based economy- meaning your wealth is measured in gold coins and your spending is limited by how many coins you have; and prices are regulated as well since the seller may choose to accept fewer coins- on the grounds that a cheap sale is better than no sale- if you are poor. But all these mechanisms that used to regulate sales and trade are GONE! Swept away in a tide of paper money and easy credit.)

(After WW2, western govts chose to end the “gold standard”- the traditional measurement of wealth- in large part because of all the looting and destruction that occurred during the war- staggering sums of gold and art and all manner of stuff was stolen or lost. Going off that gold standard allowed govt to get things running again while police sifted through various claims for compensation and ownership that are still going on 70 years later- with various art galleries arguing over who owns what. Problem is the gold standard is gone and it has not been replaced- there is no longer any real control over trade and deficits. This permits bankrupt Greeks to hide the scale of their bankruptcy. And it allows Chinese and other third world countries to manipulate currency on a grand scale.)

One classic approach for a country developing its industry and economy is to put high tariffs on imported goods. Theoretically, once these industries are strong enough to “stand on their own”, the tariffs can be reduced or eliminated.

Of course, that approach reduces profits of the now powerful manufacturers, who see no interest in enhancing competition. For a generation following World War II, the U.S. had no realtrade competition. It was the global powerhouse for manufacturing efficiency and technological innovation.

U.S. products, particularly automobiles, supported a vast U.S. middle class in which an auto worker could count on a well-paid, lifetime job. The U.S. ran trade surpluses and was the great global lender. Goods imported from other countries were regarded as cheap and shoddy.

But then the U.S. lost its “mojo.” Competitors, most notably Japan, were able to take advantage of new factories, using new technology and cheap labor. They challenged simultaneous U.S. technological failures, high prices, and social arrogance. U.S. cars were suddenly inferior.

The media were besieged with articles and studies suggesting Japan was about to lead the world in everything. Japan obliged this fear by purchasing a wide array of highly visible U.S. properties.

(The reality is that Japan was accumulating a mass of Yankee dollars and needed to do something with this cash- and what better idea than to re-invest that cash in United States? Japan took paper money that can and does fluctuate in value- and one has only to look at the vast crap game/floating casino that is the stock market to understand how volatile mere paper is- and turned their dollars into hard assets- such as real estate- which happens to be a product in ever shorter supply and ever increasing value!)

U.S. government trade efforts focused on thwarting Japan, and in an ancillary manner Mexico, whose low labor prices were (supposedly) producing a “vast sucking sound,” in Ross Perot’s words, pulling U.S. jobs south of the Rio Grande.

(Yes- that “vast sucking sound” was heard here in Canada as well- with the LIE-beral Chretien govt presiding over a debauched Cdn economy where our dollar hit $63 cents U.S. A combination of low Mexican wages and insane LIE-beral vote buying nearly bankrupted Canada! Only major tax increases by LIE-berals and serious cuts to federal fund transfers to the provinces reversed the flow of red ink! And later, the Conservative govt of Harper held the line on federal wage increases for civil service Hogs! Frugality is a good thing- too bad LIE-berals despise it and must literally have guns put to their heads to make them save a penny! Chretien LIE-berals ran on a promise to kill NAFTA and then chickened out after winning the election- the economic reality of dead NAFTA costs would be too high!)

But while America was focused on Japan and Mexico, China, quietly and efficiently “ate our lunch”.

China now has a massive trade surplus driven by manufacturing efficiency and currency manipulation.

(Yes- that paper money is wonderful stuff- you can make it worth whatever you want- especially in a CLOSED economic system like China where foreigners do NOT get to see the books! Its even easier to manipulate when local Chinese govt gets to decide what products MAY be offered for sale to the local people! This is in sharp contrast to the Cdn experience where our dollar went from that nasty $63 cents over to $1.05 U.S. and took a PILE of jobs away as Cdn goods began to cost to much!)

His country arguably now the factory for the world, Chinese leader Xi Jinping recently announced a “Made in China 2025” policy described as “involving local content requirements and the elimination of foreign suppliers.”

(So xenophobic Chinese are now implementing a “made in China” program that makes the Trump model look open and inclusive! And Our idiot Boy Justin thinks he can destroy NAFTA with his feminist/native rights blather and then make up the economic difference with Chinese business? HAHAHAHAHA!!!)

For the U.S., the past 20 years have seen the loss of two million manufacturing jobs.

(Automation is the real killer of most of these jobs. Robots are increasingly commonplace even in third world pest holes- its all about speed and efficiency and robots don’t get tired or sick or forget details. Reality is there are very few jobs to recover-especially in the automotive business which Trump is mainly focussed on. In addition -thanks to huge competition our vehicles are more reliable and longer lasting than ever before- meaning we buy new ones less often!)

Plus, growing frustration expressed by displaced workers that trade agreements reducing costs for manufacturing imports have cost them their jobs, for which “retraining”, or McJobs, are poor substitutes.

(LIE-berals keep assuring us our economy is “booming” but desperate LIE-berals do NOT want to tell us that the only good full time jobs out there are for govt employees- with the rest of us stuck in those McJobs and struggling financially! Cdn biz is cutting costs by killing good full time work and replacing it with part time and short term crap work. This trend will only increase as LIE-berals bomb business with their electricity price gouging and minimum wage garbage! The ugly truth is we Cdns cannot produce enough gravy to satisfy the civil service Hogs that LIE-berals rely on to keep them in power! It is LIE-beral gravy traded for Hog votes- and SCREW the general public!)

Hence, U.S. President Donald Trump’s urge to eliminate or reject trade agreements such as the Trans Pacific Partnership and call into question agreements such as NAFTA with Canada and Mexico

Trump’s claim, which resonates massively with voters, if not economists, is that the U.S. has been outsmarted and out-negotiated in these agreements.

(Western govts decided after WW2- that breaking down trade barriers would promote peace as countries that do lots of business are presumed to be unlikely to fight each other. This concept works with Europeans but it clearly does not work with third world nations in Middle East and in Asia! It is China that is happily stirring the pot in blood soaked Darfur/South Sudan as they pursue oil and natural gas contracts. It is Russians and Chinese who happily sell weapons to Iran, North Korea and Syria and it is bankrupt western govts that get to deal with the swarming millions of refugees- many of whom represent national security risks!)

China is a tougher problem, especially since Washington is desperately attempting to induce Beijing to castrate North Korea’s nuclear program.

Perhaps, while it is currently a rudimentary idea, a coordinated U.S./European Union, World Trade Organization action might secure better Chinese adherence to WTO rules.

(IN other words- when Trump called out NATO “slackers” especially including Canada- he was on the right track! A united front can achieve better results than a few isolated individuals! And a firm commitment to greater economic cooperation between like minded western countries can balance out influence from dictators and bullies! Too bad Our idiot boy Justin is so bigoted against Yankees he would rather see NAFTA die than agree with Yankees on ANYTHING! Our idiot Boy is deliberately hurting NAFTA by ignoring very real Yankee fears that Cdn national security is so sloppy that Yankees risk importing Muslim terrorists along with their Cdn dairy and softwood lumber!)

(LIE-beral policy is running in circles as usual- they shun trade with the Yankee democracy and seek out trade with Chinese dictators! But what can we expect form Our idiot Boy- who has his fathers vile values! After all it was Pierre Trudope who heaped fawning praise on Chinese Chairman Mao “for his genius in rushing 30 million Chinese to the gallows” just so he could cement his power over China!)

NATO money.
What NATO money? Your god-king Donald is constantly complaining that there isn't enough NATO money.

BTW, Turkey was one of the original members of NATO (1952), joining before Germany and, of course, all of the Lesser and Lower Slobbovias that signed on after the Russian Empire collapsed.

SIMPLE QUESTION::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Where would yo rather live- in Iran where hundreds or thousands are tortured and or killed by security forces for mere offenses against Islam - like complaining about not having enough to eat- and your kids are likely to be drafted into the army to go fight Jews????????????????????

Or Saudi Arabia where the living standard is MUCH HIGHER and they only kill you if you make a MAJOR PAIN of yourself- and your kids have the OPTION of volunteering for the army- IF THEY FEEL LIKE IT??????????????

Saudis are NOT saints- nobody is suggesting they are- BUT MOST OF US would rather live in Saudi Arabia then revolutionary Iran!

For one thing- the Saudis are not trying to provoke a nuclear war with the Jews!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How many of the 911 terrorists were saudis?

All of them?

========================================================================================================

Well- to be fair- Saudis are the only Muslims allowed to travel so freely and so often in in the West- they travel much more easily than some camel jockey from Iraq!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And from having more experience with western style technology and culture- maybe Saudis could learn more quickly and easily how to fly a plane than some Syrian rug dealer?

Maybe there are other aspiring jihadists out there- blocked and frustrated by lack of passports or cash or easy access to the west?????

OH wait- the Muslim illegals are working to resolve those pesky technical problems of language and access!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And LIE-berals ARE GIVING THEM THE CASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Consider:

Here is a cautionary tale for those Cdn`s who foolishly think they can sleep snug in their beds while LIE-berals stand on guard for us-and tinker with our immigration laws. And is it not sad that the LIE-beral party has no response to any of this-except to sneer and ignore! The facts were put before the courts in 2010:

A Montreal man was found to have been collecting Quebec govt welfare cheques for almost 20 years-starting around 1990-collecting welfare for 2 decades as he traveled repeatedly across Europe to meet up with 6 men who have been killed during terror acts, or arrested and convicted of terror or been linked to global terror activities. The facts and allegations were made by Csis and RCMP in May 2010.

And wasn’t Mike Harris trying to STOP crap like this when he was premier? But was stymied by civil service Hogs who DEMAND gravy and by LIE-berals who cannot get elected without the Hog votes they buy at such great cost-for us!

Court documents show Mohamed Omary has been jobless and unemployed since his arrival in Montreal from Morocco in the early 1990`s-yet he found the cash to visit Europe repeatedly between 1993 and 1999-criss-crossing the continent to meet up with a list of Islamic terror Jihadists.

Omary-a father of FOUR-denies any involvement with terrorists-and has never been charged with any offense-not even welfare fraud! Though his brother WAS KICKED OUT of Canada on national security grounds.

During the time period 1990-2000, Omary joined a Longueuil area shooting club and learned to handle guns. He later learned how to handle AK 47 assault rifles while in Bosnia allegedly as “humanitarian worker” according to Cdn govt.

Omary`s house was searched by police in 1999 at the request of French authorities. He made visits to various countries through out Europe-staying for at least a month each time-with stays at the better hotels-including one 4 star place-no flea bag places for him! Nor cheap take out either-he ate WELL in his travels!

In 2009, Omary was arrested by Moroccan authorities at the Casablanca airport. He holds dual citizenship in both Canada and Morocco and his Cdn passport was taken from him. Omary is now suing the Cdn govt, Csis and RCMP for preventing him from coming back to Montreal for 2 years. He is suing for loss of liberty, stress and pain from family separation. In addition he is making a laugh out loud claim for LOST WAGES! One must assume he wants to be repaid all the welfare cheques he missed out on while detained in Morocco? And he claims the stress has aggravated his heart condition-you just have to love that free health care to go with the welfare!

In the 1990`s, Quebec news reporters linked Omary to an Islamic sleeper cell based in Montreal.

Sadly, its not the first time Cdn charity has been abused! Those who have seen the movie “Black Hawk Down” will remember the early scene where trucks carry sacks of grain into a Somali refugee camp. People rush the trucks and a clown with a heavy .50 calibre machine gun fires a burst and kills several people-the bodies mangled by the heavy calibre bullets. The mob freezes in terror and a thug with a bullhorn announces: “this is the food of Mohamed Farrah Aideed, and he gives it to you”! The camera pans in as people rush forward again and begin grabbing sacks of grain with assorted labels: product of Canada, product of USA, donated by United Nations, donated by Red Cross etc....Aideed has stolen this food for his own purposes-and laughs at western foolishness.

In 1990`s Somalia was not a safe place-which is why the Wife of Mohamad Farah Aideed immigrated to Ontari-owe-as a refugee naturally- and set up house keeping with roughly 10 kids. Its so hard to tell how many she really has as her hubby has a number of wives-none of our business who they are-and he has a pile of kids-we don’t need to know which kids belong to mothers actually LIVING in Canada either-its ONLY our business to PAY for them!

Former premier Mike Harris made efforts to stop welfare payments to Wife Farah Aideed and others of her type such as accused Tamil Tigers- since she so often flew back to Somalia to take part in govt ceremonies with her hubby-but naturally Hogs and LIE-berals felt Harris was picking on that poor refugee woman-just because her hubby happens to be a notorious warlord and sponsor of gangs of Somali PIRATES attacking western ships in the Red Sea and Persian Gulf!

Were we not-and are we not STILL spending OUR tax money to send warships to patrol those pirate infested seas? Anybody remember that classic old news film of a Cdn helicopter crew pushing aside a machine gun so they can unfurl a warning sign at a boat load of pirates? With the sign saying something like: “go home or we will arrest you”! No wonder Muslims don’t respect us and think we are the sucker nation of the world!

And isn`t it nice that our prime minster-that brainless Boy Justin has just restored funding to several Arab agencies with ties to terror groups Hamas and Hezbollah-so much for logic and fair and even handed dealing in volatile Middle East! Our brainless Boy apparently thinks he can save us from terror by BUYING PROTECTION!

But then Our brainless Boy is on record stating “a Cdn is a Cdn” and has just GIVEN BACK citizenship to the leader of the Toronto 18-that gang of Muslim thugs who wanted blow up Toronto stock exchange, machine gun parliament and behead the prime minister. What does a CONVICTED terrorist offer to Canada? Other than another chance for LIE-berals to BUY more Muslim votes?

Our brainless Boy has earmarked 35 million dollars for an anti Jihadist watch dog to persuade Muslims living in Canada not to hurt us. I am guessing the LIE-beral anti jihad message goes something like this: “why bother traveling to other lands to fight when you can stay here all warm and cozy in Canada and use your vote HERE to ensure that Canada finds it fate-as a MUSLIM NATION-within the coming world wide caliphate! All you have to do is keep voting LIE-beral and it shall come to pass-Cdns will eventually yield to and accept the one perfect system given by Allah-the system of Sharia Law!

LIE-berals and Muslims are like rust and like bank interest rates-they NEVER SLEEP and never let up-they just keep on eating away till there is nothing left. You can buy a new car but not a new country! Thank you LIE-berals for this social ROT you have inflicted upon us simply so you can buy votes and cling to power!

Trump’s private plane clipped in parking mishap at LaGuardia Airport

NEW YORK — President Donald Trump’s private jet, an instantly recognizable Boeing 757 used during his campaign, was caught up in a quintessential New York City traffic mishap at LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday: a fender bender while someone else was trying to park.
A corporate jet manoeuvring into a parking spot clipped the wing of Trump’s parked plane around 8:30 a.m., Trump’s company, The Trump Organization, confirmed. It said the plane was parked and not in use.
The corporate jet, a twin-engine Bombardier Global Express, had three crew members aboard. It had just completed an 18-minute flight from Islip, on Long Island, and was being guided by ground personnel along a ramp near the general aviation terminal.
No one was on Trump’s plane.
Trump used the jet throughout his 2016 run for the White House but hasn’t done so since taking office, opting for Air Force One instead.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates LaGuardia, said there were no injuries and no impact on airport operations.
The extent of damage to the planes wasn’t immediately clear. According to the aviation tracking website FlightAware, the corporate jet flew Wednesday afternoon to Hartford, Connecticut, where Bombardier has a service centre. Trump’s plane is blocked from being tracked on the site.
Trump bought his jet, a retrofitted commercial airliner, from the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen in 2011 for $100 million. It was previously used by a low-budget Mexican passenger carrier.
Trump flexed the jet as a symbol of wealth, power and convenience during his presidential campaign, using it to commute almost every night to New York, home to his Manhattan penthouse apartment.
The plane — painted black and red, with the Trump name in big, gold letters — features a bedroom, 24-karat gold-plated fixtures and leather seats, according to a Trump Organization video. During the campaign, it became known as Trump Force One and was a familiar backdrop for Trump’s airport hangar rallies.
Lately, the plane has turned into something of a LaGuardia landmark, with fliers snapping photos from passing jets and posting them on social media.
Wednesday’s incident wasn’t the first involving a Trump campaign plane at LaGuardia.
A Boeing 737 charter plane carrying then-vice-presidential candidate Mike Pence overran a runway while landing in the rain on Oct. 27, 2016, about two weeks before the election. No one was hurt.

Why are the Turks so invested in driving a wedge between SA and the West?
Keep in mind this post was made after the one in the intro section. Same rules apply.

Turkey hasn't been driving it's own bus since the end of WWI and probably for some time before that, collective poverty rather than selective poverty before their Kingdom fell in preparation the one in place 100 years later. The term you want is KSA and at the moment Turkey is still a NATO asset and rather than being subject to 'terrorist raids by Israeli trained Kurds'. (loyalty by offering the only buttered bread in the area, less stable than 'fragile') Today their military is acting in tandem. The explosion at the Naval Base during the IDF rraid on the cruise ship was never challenged so they are an Israeli asset. Putin will sell them anything they want, paid in full, delivery about 100 years from the day payment in full is made. Shooting the Russian jet was their commitment to NATO, the sanctions that have been lifted are a few bans on produce, that is all there ever will be. Turkey needs to rejoin their neighbors to the south and find someway to allow them to cash in on the natural resources they are shy on. Food production is the ultimate weapon and being the headwaters of one of the major rivers has to leave food production as being the replacement for oil or NG.

Mossad would have had that embassy as well as every other one in that city and every other city, they are not part of Israel, they are part of the IMF & Co.

A better question is will Turkey withdraw from NATO to become part of the nations he was against in order to become an equal partnership in a thriving club that is good for at least the next 70 years. The IMF will still be with NATO, that is where the 10 feared nations will come from as 'plan B' starts to unfold. Lebanon will be the sea port so she also sees income become bigger that spending. KSA nations will go back to their homeland as will any NATO/Israeli influence.

Turkey would have summed all that up when Russia carried out the 1st mission that stopped their theft of Syrian oil, she is a causality of war so the cards being played are at a different table.

End of post, lol.

Speaking to Democracy Now, Chomsky blamed Washington for making things terrible enough that residents of certain Latin American countries feel they have no other choice but to try to leave for a better life.

U.S. House Dems raise prospect of impeachment, jail for Trump
Associated Press
Published:
December 10, 2018
Updated:
December 10, 2018 12:37 AM EST
In this Sept. 28, 2018, file photo, House Judiciary Committee ranking member Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., talks to media during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington. Carolyn Kaster / AP
WASHINGTON — Top House Democrats have raised the prospect of impeachment or the real possibility of prison time for President Donald Trump if it’s proved that he directed illegal hush-money payments to women, adding to the legal pressure on the president over the Russia investigation and other scandals.
“There’s a very real prospect that on the day Donald Trump leaves office, the Justice Department may indict him, that he may be the first president in quite some time to face the real prospect of jail time,” said Rep. Adam Schiff, the incoming chairman of the House intelligence committee. “The bigger pardon question may come down the road as the next president has to determine whether to pardon Donald Trump.”
Rep. Jerry Nadler, the incoming chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, described the details in prosecutors’ filings Friday in the case of Trump’s former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, as evidence that Trump was “at the centre of a massive fraud.”
“They would be impeachable offences,” Nadler said.
In the filings, prosecutors in New York for the first time link Trump to a federal crime of illegal payments to buy the silence of two women during the 2016 campaign. Special counsel Robert Mueller’s office also laid out previously undisclosed contacts between Trump associates and Russian intermediaries and suggested the Kremlin aimed early on to influence Trump and his Republican campaign by playing to both his political and personal business interests.
Trump has denied wrongdoing and has compared the investigations to a “witch hunt.”
Nadler, D-N.Y., said it was too early to say whether Congress would pursue impeachment proceedings based on the illegal payments alone because lawmakers would need to weigh the gravity of the offence to justify “overturning” the 2016 election. Nadler and other lawmakers said Sunday they would await additional details from Mueller’s investigation into Russian election interference and possible co-ordination with the Trump campaign to determine the extent of Trump’s misconduct.
Regarding the illegal payments, “whether they are important enough to justify an impeachment is a different question, but certainly they’d be impeachable offences because even though they were committed before the president became president, they were committed in the service of fraudulently obtaining the office,” Nadler said.
Mueller has not said when he will complete a report of any findings, and it isn’t clear that any such report would be made available to Congress. That would be up to the attorney general. Trump on Friday said he would nominate former Attorney General William Barr to the post to succeed Jeff Sessions.
Nadler indicated that Democrats, who will control the House in January, will step up their own investigations. He said Congress, the Justice Department and the special counsel need to dig deeper into the allegations, which include questions about whether Trump lied about his business arrangements with Russians and about possible obstruction of justice.
“The new Congress will not try to shield the president,” he said. “We will try to get to the bottom of this, in order to serve the American people and to stop this massive conspiracy — this massive fraud on the American people.”
Schiff, D-Calif., also stressed a need to wait “until we see the full picture.” He has previously indicated his panel would seek to look into the Trump family’s business ties with Russia.
“I think we also need to see this as a part of a broader pattern of potential misconduct by the president, and it’s that broad pattern, I think, that will lead us to a conclusion about whether it rises to the level to warrant removal from office,” Schiff said.
In the legal filings, the Justice Department stopped short of accusing Trump of directly committing a crime. But it said Trump told Cohen to make illegal payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal, both of whom claimed to have had affairs with Trump more than a decade ago.
In separate filings, Mueller’s team detail how Cohen spoke to a Russian who “claimed to be a ’trusted person’ in the Russian Federation who could offer the campaign ’political synergy’ and ’synergy on a government level.”’ Cohen said he never followed up on that meeting. Mueller’s team also said former campaign chairman Paul Manafort lied to them about his contacts with a Russian associate and Trump administration officials, including in 2018.
Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida called the latest filings “relevant” in judging Trump’s fitness for office but said lawmakers need more information to render judgment. He also warned the White House about considering a pardon for Manafort, saying such a step could trigger congressional debate about limiting a president’s pardon powers.
Such a move would be “a terrible mistake,” Rubio said. “Pardons should be used judiciously. They’re used for cases with extraordinary circumstances.”
Sen. Angus King, an independent from Maine and a member of the Senate intelligence committee, cautioned against a rush to impeachment, which he said citizens could interpret as “political revenge and a coup against the president.”
“The best way to solve a problem like this, to me, is elections,” King said. “I’m a conservative when it comes to impeachment. I think it’s a last resort and only when the evidence is clear of a really substantial legal violation. We may get there, but we’re not there now.”
Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut urged Mueller to “show his cards soon” so that Congress can make a determination early next year on whether to act on impeachment.
“Let’s be clear: We have reached a new level in the investigation,” Murphy said. “It’s important for Congress to get all of the underlying facts and data and evidence that the special counsel has.”
Nadler spoke on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday, Rubio was on CNN and ABC’s This Week, and Schiff appeared on CBS’ Face the Nation. Murphy spoke on ABC, and King was on NBC’s Meet the Press.
