I did read it and Presidents in a democracy have no business commenting like that on universities. It's that "democracy" thing that hangs you up, apparently. Trump doesn't get it, either.
Universities and their staff and alumni should determine what is taught in universities, not political leaders. I suppose that you could outlaw "Confusian Institutes" the way that the Americans outlawed the Communist Party way back when but pushing it underground will not help you out. Power-hungry politicians like Trump would dearly love to engineer what the young learn.

Communist subversion should always be fought by responsible people and that includes gubmints. Advocating for communist groups not to be funded by universities is very responsible of the US gubmint.
The Chinese are long past Communism. They are hyper Capitalists and combined with their jingoistism and culture of race superiority, they are truly a fascist regime. Their "clubs" couldn't be stopped if you wanted them to be but if you want them out of universities you had better let the universities do that, not politicians that have a long list of alterior motives.
