This is the hilarious moment a Shetland pony was chased by police down a residential street.

The footage shows the animal evading two police cars in the housing estate in Crawley, West Sussex.

Its escape - from an unknown location - prompted Sussex Police to send out four cars to bring it back.

But despite devoting those considerable resources to catching the pony, it still managed to dodge the police again and again.

It was eventually cornered in Short Close and captured after numerous sightings across the town.

In the video of the chase the person filming the scene can be heard laughing as the pony trots confidently down the road.

Police said it was then taken to a yard while the RSPCA was contacted in an attempt to reunite the animal with its owner.

Now if that were Murica, the pony would have been shot full of more holes than in a Swiss cheese.

Pound for pound, the Shetland pony is the strongest of all pony and horse breeds. It originated way up in Shetland in the Bronze Age.
