Patrick Brown registers to run in PC leadership race

Patrick Brown is listed as a "leadership contestant" for the Ontario Progressive Conservatives on the Elections Ontario website, just weeks after resigning from the position due to allegations of sexual misconduct.

Brown was seen dropping off paperwork at party headquarters on Friday afternoon, around two hours before the 5 p.m. ET deadline for candidates to enter the race.

To run for the leadership, Brown will also need to be approved by a party committee.

His decision to enter the race came just hours after interim leader Vic Fedeli expelled Brown from the party caucus.

The PCs would do well not to have him as leader for the election.

Even with CTV admitting that he hit on an underage girl was a lie, Brown will still be seen by some voters as baggage. His only hope would be an immediate and aggressive overturning of the allegations made against him. I doubt that will happen in a three month time frame.

I agree.
He should not have resigned in the first place.
But now that he has, pick someone else.

It seems that the reaction to Brown running is not being taken well. This is Doug Ford's reaction, but some other candidates feel the same.

How devoid of principle do you have to be to run for the leadership of a party that just kicked you out for what now appear to be little reason?

Politicians are such whores.

PCs always run into infighting between social conservatives and strictly fiscal conservatives.

Until one of those groups makes a concession, they'll always run into this problem.

Such a drama llama!

Patrick Brown resigned. He wasn't kicked out. But thanks for playing.

Further to Brown's announcement that he is running for leader,

"A senior party official told Global News that while Brown can run as a candidate, when the party reviews his application for his riding Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte at a later date, it’s unlikely it will be endorsed – ending his leadership bid."

If the PCs want to have a shot at winning the election in June, they had better not endorse his candidacy.

Patrick Brown enters Ontario PC leadership race amid sexual misconduct allegations
By Andrew Russell

Patrick Brown wants to reclaim his role as leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative party and is entering the leadership race just weeks after resigning amid allegations of sexual assault.

Brown is listed as the fifth candidate on the Ontario Elections website and was seen filing nomination papers at PC part headquarters Friday afternoon, despite being removed from the PC party caucus by interim leader Vic Fedeli earlier in the day.

But his comeback maybe short lived.

A senior party official told Global News that while Brown can run as a candidate, when the party reviews his application for his riding Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte at a later date, it’s unlikely it will be endorsed – ending his leadership bid.

The 39-year-old from Barrie stepped down in late January just hours after CTV reported that two women were accusing him of sexual misconduct. He denied those allegations and says he intends to sue CTV.

That just killed the momentum. Rob Ford, too, who will not pass the smell test if by some miracle he manages to win the leadership.

If the Conservatives want to win the next election, they'd better firmly reject both of those guys.

The Sex Ed girl ... can't even remember her name ... is more likely to make the Tories a laughing stock on late night TV.

There are only two choices .... both women ... both really good choices.

Wow.

The Ontario PC party is shooting itself in both feet.......with a submachine gun.

Wynne must be hurting laughing.

The woman is so damned incompetent and corrupt that I suspect she is related to Justin.

And these idiots (especially Brown) are determined to give her another term.

I believe that the PC executive will do the right thing and turn down his application. It wouldn't be in their best interests to allow Brown into the race. That is, if they truly want to defeat the Liberals.

hes swimming in hot gravy down below. ;)

Sorry, meant Doug ... not that there is much difference. I used to work for a woman who went to High School with Doug Ford. She, by the way, is a very conservative, observant Church Lady but NOT a gossipy fruitcake. Anyway, she says that Doug was THE school and neighbourhood dope dealer and all-around hood. When the press and the opposing parties start digging (they don't need to go far) Doug will be publicly ripped to shreds and his party along with him.

Oh, and there's that unsolved murder around the famous Rob Ford video. If Patrick Brown is publicly pilloried for what is essentially schoolboy kissy-kissy. (No, he needn't register as a sex offender for what he's being accused of) Doug will send the party into single digit numbers of seats behind the NDP opposition and another unbearably smug Liberal government.

They don't.

They're Conservatives.

They just want to get paid.

Theyve been doing it for over ten years now. They have a rare talent for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I really don’t get how they manage to do it so often.

They can’t. He met the requirements.

True, if hudac had just shut his yap we'd not be suffering wynne.

If brown gets the nod I'll vote for him, actually any pc is the only choice this province has it won't survive another lib bunglefest.

The Tories have been ill advised ... either that or the keep electing Tourettes sufferers as leaders. There is a disconnect between how they see their mission in life and what is electable. The Ontario Liberals are as corrupt as the Borgias, right now but .... amazingly enough, they have just become a shoo-in.

If a monster like Trump can get elected, anything is possible, I suppose.
