Where I used to work years ago, I remember walking in on some female colleagues in the lunch room and hearing 'I'd spread my legs for him.' She wasn't referring to me though... or at least I don't believe she was. As soon as she saw me, she immediately apologized embarrassed. I just smiled and said nothing.

While her comment may have been inappropriate, I certainly would not make a big fuss out of something like that. There are much bigger fish to fry.

Last year at work, a gal was standing in a large cardboard freight container and said to me..."Why don't you come over here and come in my box!"

LOL!!!

I suppose by today's standards I should be scarred for life, but I actually thought it was a very funny/ cheeky comment to make.

And maybe she just meant it literally. You dirty-minded rascal you.

Thank you Cannuck. I hope I can reciprocate that hug one day.

No. She's always been nasty like that...a real sexed-up gal. All of the guys on the shop floor just laugh, and secretly wish they could get in her pants , of course.

I remember slipping once. I made a joke a work. I can't remember the details of the joke but it had to do with dogs and bitches running around in the office. Though I know (and knew then too) that 'bitch' can be used as a derogatory term to mean woman, within the context of the joke, that just hadn't crossed my mind at the time. Only after I said it and a woman called me out on it did it click in that she'd understood it quite differently.

I was very lucky though in that she gave me a chance to explain myself. The fact that another woman who knew me better and understood the joke came to my defense probably helped too. I think the context of the joke and my reaction to being called out helped too. I did immediately apologize as soon as I realized the other possible way of interpreting the joke.

English, rich in homonyms, is full of such traps for the inattentive, and you need to be inattentive for only a few seconds to fall into it.

On another occasion, I showed a friend one of Kipling's more racist poems intending to mock the beliefs of his time. I'm not sure if he understood my point though or if he thought I was condoning the content of the poem.

I think it's only fair to give a person the chance to explain his intent before crucifying him.

I beleive the elbow attack was an accident.

But even the comment about the threesome, however inappropriate it may have been, seems to be getting blows right out of proportion.

I've suffered sexual and emotional abuse in the bast, both as a child and as a young adult, and I can say that a comment of that magnitude, though perhaps inappropriate, is nothing to stress over.

the poem I was referring to was this one:

https://www.poetryloverspage.com/poets/kipling/counting_out_song.html

Here's an extract:

Eenee, Meenee, Mainee, Mo!
Catch a nigger by the toe!
(If he hollers let him go!
Eenee, Meenee. Mainee, Mo!
You-are-It!"

'Inappropriate, humiliating': Liberal MP accuses Conservative of unwanted sexual remarks - Politics - CBC News

And this ridiculously innocuous comment was made over 7 months ago! Sorry sweetheart, but get a thicker skin or get out of the workforce. You are a disgrace to women who have actually been truly sexually harassed.

The comments section were surprisingly against the liberal MP.

Makes me wonder I called a girl I liked in High School sweetie once at a party. What if she goes to the HR at my work or spans their Facebook page about it?

Will i get canned for sexually assaulting her? What would be my defense?

Sounds stupid to think but nowadays I dunno know....

The rape and abuse epidemic in our society is real. It wouldn't surprise me if many of the negative comments come from victims of real abuse thinking that that MP is making a mockery of them.

I don't know how stupid you have to be to make a remark like that, but I'm going to say pretty stupid.
