The Big Reveal today on the multi billion dollar liberal housing plan. With all these Haitians set to arrive we could really use some places for them to stay.

We have one at our workplace. He’s building a mansion fortress for himself back home. He’s not planning on staying in Canada

One less job for a real Canadian planning to really make Canada home

100,000 homes to be built and 300,000 homes to be renovated OK I can see it maybe, but the nonsense Bill to be put forward about housing being a right I don't agree with it is a privilege not a right IMO

I doubt ill be more able to afford a house with this 40 billion dollar money pit

My main issue lies in a single income family not having enough funds to buy a house

You more than likely wouldn't qualify for the affordable housing because your income is to high. IMO

The right to housing is what really should concern us it is one step closer to guaranteed income, which would take one more incentive away from people trying to better themselves through hard work. IMO Also one can see the interpretation of housing rights being open to litigation over the standard of housing and amenities that should be available with the right to "housing" I don't see this ending well........ again all IMHO

Ya, this is just money thrown to the very poor. And the middle class will pay the taxes to fund it.

Im sure the poor will appreciate the free lunch

And land lords will be the real benefactors

Its a tax on the middle class to benefit land lords

Every study shows it lowers costs. Better lifestyle for kids, as they are not bouncing all over from Apartment to apartment. Then funds for homeless can lower Prov/City & Fed costs,Medical, health, police, to name a few, dependent upon location by 40- 60 K per year for each homeless person provided with decent shelter.

Every study that I have witnessed says that it costs me money to implement to find that it has no better results than the original model before the first study:)

There is also a study out there that says that people that work hard to better the lives of their offspring also live to be healthier and happier

So he’s buying votes and helping landlords in the process and giving more burden to the middle class that pays for it.

This strategy is a burden in my situation

One more burden to add to the truck load. No problem instead of having -2 kids ill have -3 kids

I'll give you an affordable housing strategy:

1. remove municipal restrictions on high-density development.

2. remove any requirement in the building code to include any parking space other than for emergency vehicles.

3. remove municipal regulations prohibiting splitting land into smaller parcels for sale to build smaller homes.

There may be other ideas too. I'm not saying that we shouldn't spend tax money on helping the poor, but only after we've never given the private sector the chance to fix the problem on its own to the degree that it can. That way the problem will already be smaller by the time the government pitches in.

I was looking for a story I saw a few months ago on the VR. Apparently an old/factory/warehouse is being turned into affordable housing there.

Here's another one announced before Trudeau's trip........

Barr's Motel on Essa Road in Barrie is set to be transformed into affordable housing units.
The County of Simcoe announced on Tuesday it will convert the hotel and the house beside it into 17 affordable housing units.
It's all courtesy of a nearly $10 million grant from the province to build and operate affordable housing in Barrie and Orillia.

More money has been announced to build new affordable housing units in central Ontario.

Officials with the federal, provincial and municipal government were in Barrie on Tuesday to talk about $12.4 million. The money will be used to fund eight housing projects.

The units are being built in Penetanguishene, Orangeville, Shelburne, Orillia, Barrie, Gravenhurst and Huntsville.
The money comes from both the federal and provincial governments. The housing developments are expected to bring 123 additional units to the area.

The residences are designed specifically for the elderly, people with low income, and others with disabilities.
