Really..........with everything going on in the news about sexual harassment............and they thought this was a good idea.

The meaning of the sign was innocent. It just meant...

'Forgive.Take a deep breath and swallow hard before you think of lashing out at someone."

I'm sure the Church was mortified when the connotation got misconstrued.

I've never been a member of a Baptist church, so I wouldn't know.

I used to play around with Baptists though. I'd pretend that I believed that a Baptist was a Jewish believer of John the Baptist who was still awaiting the Messiah he promised would come. I'd ask them what Book they believed in after the Book of Malachi as if I thought they believed in some book of John the Baptist that I didn't know about.

They'd usually look at me with bewilderment. To be fair, if they call themselves Baptists, what else am I to believe about them? They'd then start to explain to me in earnest that they are Christian and get into their beliefs about baptism. Then I'd ask them how they baptize with fire. Once they explained that that was symbolic, I'd then ask why they take baptism with water so literally? I truly enjoyed that pastime whenever I was bored.

It's funny: though it has nothing to do with the writers or speakers intent, it is all about the listener's mistaken interpretation

but never the less, it's the speaker or writer that is construed (by the people who are wrong in the first place) as being wrong.
