Aircraft Carriers that can not accommadate aircraft are just an expensive floating football field.

Where did you get the idea that it can't accommodate aircraft? It had aircraft on it as it entered Portsmouth Harbour. Why would the Royal Navy operate aircraft carriers with no aircraft?

Well as long as Her Majesty's credit card isn't yet maxed out, I guess it would make sense to buy aircraft to boot.

You guys are as bad as Trudeau, spending like drunken sailors you lot.

But he still spent like there was no tomorrow.

Not on the Navy, he didn't and nor did his successors. We just paid off the last ships launched during the Trudeau years. They lasted that long held together by ticky tape, chewing gum and the skill and fortitude of their crews.

You don't know what the future is going to hold, what with what's going on in North Korea and elsewhere. Britain needs to go into the future prepared and strong militarily - in the form of HMS Queen Elizabeth, which is to be the Royal Navy's flagship for 50 years. She doesn't want to make the mistakes she made in the 1930s.

Part of the downside of these hugely expensive imperial status symbols is their vulnerability. Even with the defensive flotilla that usually surrounds them, one well guided and relatively cheap cruise missile could take it out in a shooting war.

It's very difficult to sink an aircraft carrier.

I had a chance to seee this majestic vessel as it passed our lodging place. Absolutely stately and magnificent. UK is badly in need of a vessel f this type to help reinforce the Royal Fleet.

It will make a beautiful helicopter carrier if an expensive one.

It's been done. Several times over.

Well, warships fight wars, and therefore put themselves in danger of being sunk. That's the normal way of things.

Britain lost several aircraft carriers in World War II - including HMS Hermes, the world's first aircraft carrier - yet these were very small compared to the behemoths of today. Modern aircraft carriers are almost impossible to sink.

Consider the billions that the Royal Navy blows to maintain an anachronistic and redundant fleet of Trident ICBM carrying submarines.

Whereas how much dough have we blown on subs that can't leave the harbour, never mind fire
a floating turd ?

Glass houses.
