Pissing off liberals is what the Republican party does best right now. If your political identity is any more conservative than that, you might have a hard time voting for Kid Rock, a supporter of the legalization of all drugs whose position on abortion is “it’s not up to a man to tell a woman what to do.” Take away the commitment to offending liberal snowflakes, and he’s basically Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson, if Johnson had once briefly served as the lead singer for both Metallica and Guns N’ Roses.

Which is to say that Kid Rock is not really a conservative, or even someone who pretends to be one. And that’s just fine with many conservatives. As The Federalist put it, he may currently lack "a cogent list of reasons why he wants the job," but will benefit from "a blood connection through his baby’s momma with African-Americans” — as well as the fact that his Democratic opponent “resembles an overweight, scolding aunt.” Kurt Schlichter, of conservative news site Townhall.com, wrote that Kid Rock deserved to be elected to the Senate for the following reasons: He will annoy liberals, and he will also annoy conservative columnist George Will. "We’re past voting for the ideology," he wrote. "Now we’re ready to vote for the id."

For all we know, this could all all a stunt backed by a record company that is well aware of how fake news — and apparently, fake polling — involving Trump-adjacent cultural figures brings in millions of dollars of free media coverage (it’s perhaps worth noting here that his campaign store is currently hosted on the website of Warner Bros. Records).

But the maybe-real Kid Rock campaign is already capturing hearts and minds, and serving the most sacred mission possible: freaking out the libs. “Maybe this is just a marketing gimmick for a new album or tour,” Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote in a fundraising email after the rap-rocker launched his campaign site, “but we all thought Donald Trump was just promoting his reality TV show, too.”

Of course, this isn’t just a Trump thing: There’s a long tradition of American jokers and jesters converting fame into high office. Former SNL writer and performer Al Franken became a senator, former pro wrestler Jesse Ventura became governor of Minnesota, and Arnold Schwarzenegger somehow became governor of California (for two terms!). Famous white men, having scaled our country's highest heights and descended into its lowest lows, have proven themselves fully capable of deciding that after years of enjoying the very best of life, they should find out what the worst looks like. And in 2017, the opposite of enjoying life is serving in government.

So yes, Kid Rock should probably run for the Senate. If there is any justice in the world, he will win and be forced to move to Washington, DC, and show up for votes on whether or not April 27 should be International Pillow Day, and attend fundraisers at the homes of Northern Virginia's finest citizens. He will wear suits and ask questions at cybersecurity hearings. He will have to answer constituent emails and hire staffers. He will be markedly ineffectual and do relatively little of any political consequence. Nothing will have changed as a result of either his candidacy or his service in Congress. And the Republican Party will have proven itself to be a leading voice in the fight against history’s greatest monsters: random liberals on the internet.

Let the circus begin! Jesus Christ what a shit-show the US is becoming. Kid Rock, The Rock, Jay-Z and I think there's even some mumblings about Kanye throwing his hat in the ring. I know there's more but can't think who off-hand.

Meanwhile in Canada we could have had an astronaut as PM but instead got stuck with a space cadet.

I remember when we had a man who had spent most of his life as a manual laborer as President.

Another time it was an actor.

Nothing wrong with a manual labourer, they know what real work is. But I assume you're talking about Carter, who sadly was an ineffectual President because he was just too nice of a guy. As for the actor, democrats are STILL whining about him.
But you know something? At least Reagan did something and stuck with it. Unlike our human butterfly who flits from whim to whim, leaving something only when it gets boring or becomes like work. Even as an MP his attitude was that he had better things to do than represent his constituents. Despite his short-time as an MP before becoming PM, he had one of the worst absentee rates in Canadian Parliamentary history.
I have no doubt that if the UN offered him one of their bullshit ambassador appointments tomorrow morning, by sometime in the afternoon we'd be hearing about his resignation as PM because something "better" came along.

Kid Rock to left-leaning watchdog group over complaint about proposed U.S. Senate run: 'Go f--- yourselves'

Kid Rock has blasted a complaint filed by a watchdog group over his proposed U.S. Senate run.
The musician, real name Robert Ritchie, stunned fans in July when he announced that he is considering challenging Democrat Debbie Stabenow’s seat in his native Michigan in the 2018 election.
Rock’s political chat has since caught the attention of left-leaning nonpartisan group Common Cause, with organizers filing a complaint with the Federal Election Commission and Department of Justice on Friday, accusing him of violating federal election laws by acting as a Senate candidate by tweeting about it and launching a website on the topic, without registering his candidacy.
The complaint quickly drew Rock’s attention and he responded with a note posted on his website.
“I am starting to see reports from the misinformed press and the fake news on how I am in violation of breaking campaign law,” he stated on Friday. “#1 I have still not officially announced my candidacy. #2 See #1 and go f--- yourselves. Everyone else, Have a great Labor Day.”
In Common Cause’s complaint, it was also claimed that Rock had failed to comply with contribution restrictions and disclose contributions to his campaign. His label, Warner Bros. Records, was also named, with the company accused of violating federal law and commission regulations by facilitating and acting as a conduit for contributions.
“Regardless of whether Kid Rock says he’s only exploring candidacy, he’s selling ‘Kid Rock for Senate’ merchandise and is a candidate under the law. This is campaign finance law 101,” said Paul S. Ryan, Common Cause’s vice president for policy and litigation. “Given the activities we’ve documented in the complaint, he can’t reasonably claim to be merely testing the waters of candidacy and thus exempt from candidate filing requirements. He is a candidate and is obligated to abide by all the rules and make the same disclosures required of everyone else running for federal office.”
Rock, 46, has long been affiliated with the U.S. Republican Party, and he previously allowed Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign to use his song Born Free at promotional events.

Kid Rock hits back at activists over concert cancellation demands

Kid Rock has hit back at anti-racism activists demanding the cancellation of his upcoming Detroit concerts.
The Bawitdaba singer, 46, angered civil rights activists by delivering a fiery political speech onstage at a concert in Grand Rapids, Mich. last Wednesday.
The rocker, real name Robert Ritchie, halted his gig to deliver an expletive-laden speech denouncing political correctness and NFL star Colin Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the U.S. national anthem to protest racial inequality.
In the wake of the speech, activists from Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network’s Detroit chapter demanded the cancellation of Kid Rock’s six upcoming concerts at the city’s Little Caesars Arena and promised to protest outside the shows.
In a post on his website the musician, a Detroit native, slammed those calling for the shows to be stopped.
He wrote, “Pretty funny how scared I have them all and their only agenda is to try and label people / me racist who do not agree or cower to them!! No one had a word to say when we sold out the 6 shows at LCA (Little Caesars Arena) back in January (17)!
“My track record in Detroit and Michigan speaks for itself, and I would dare anyone talking trash to put theirs up against mine. I am also a homeowner and taxpayer in the city of Detroit, so suck on that too!”
He added, “I am the bonified (sic) KING OF DETROIT LOVE and it makes me smile down deep that you haters know that! Your jealousy is merely a reflection of disgust for your own failures and lack of positive ideas for our city.”
In his post, the musician also denounced criticism of his use of Confederate iconography and claimed his critics were motivated by his planned run for one of Michigan’s U.S. Senate seats.
Kid Rock’s gigs are still scheduled to go ahead and run from Tuesday until Sept. 20.
