TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - A live Asian carp has been discovered in a Chicago waterway about nine miles from Lake Michigan — well beyond an electric barrier network designed to prevent the invasive fish that have infested the Mississippi River system from reaching the Great Lakes, officials said Friday.

The silver carp was 28 inches long and weighed about 8 pounds, officials with the Asian Carp Regional Coordinating Committee told The Associated Press. It was caught Thursday by a commercial fisherman under contract with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources about 2 miles below the below the T.J. O'Brien Lock and Dam in the Calumet River, on Chicago's south side.

The location is the closest to the Great Lakes that a silver carp is known to have reached, said Charlie Wooley, Midwest deputy regional director for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Silver carp are among four types of Asian carp threatening to invade the lakes, where scientists say they could compete with native species, unravel aquatic food chains and devastate the region's $7 billion fishing industry.

More fish in a lake destroys the fishing industry how?
They are filter feeders and once their numbers increase food levels for Minnows & Crayfish plummet-next to collapse are native game fish like Bass, Walleye, Pike & Trout-never to return
Carp in a bacon wrap, yummy.
Some of those slugs are exported from the USA- only the Chinese are desperate enough to buy/eat them

So we need to let more Chinese in to fish them out.

Yeah okay.
If they take over and there doesn't seem to be anyway to prevent it then make sure they do it in big numbers so the fish tonnage increases each year.

aren't carp geflite(sp) fish?

Gefilte fish (/ɡəˈfɪltə fɪʃ/; from Yiddish: געפֿילטע פֿיש‎, "stuffed fish") is a dish made from a poached mixture of ground deboned fish, such as carp, whitefish, or pike. It is a dish traditionally served as an appetizer by Ashkenazi Jewish households.

Although the dish historically consisted of a minced-fish forcemeat stuffed inside the fish skin, as its name implies, since the 19th century the skin has commonly been omitted and the seasoned fish is formed into patties similar to quenelles or fish balls.

They are popular on Shabbat and holidays such as Passover, although they may be consumed throughout the year.

In Poland, gefilte fish, referred to as karp po Żydowsku ("carp Jewish-style"), is a traditional dish in many Catholic homes to be served on Christmas Eve (for Twelve-dish supper) and on Holy Saturday.[1]

...... let people hook 'em and eat 'em.
I see you've never fished anything in your long miserable life-FYI

These invasive Carp are filter feeders they won't take a hook at all-they can be netted or speared or shot with a arrow but that's it you can use every bait in creation but since it's all too big for them they don't look at it-ever.

Please Note-none of the activities as shown in the following videos is sport fishing although they might suit you/yours.

WHAT DO CARP EAT? – HOW WILL YOU GET THEM TO EAT IT?
A Wide Variety of Options

Ask any freshwater fisherman about the toughest fighting fish they've caught, and chances are high they'll say Carp. Carp actually belong to a family of fish we don't tend to think of as big or strong. The minnow. Carp are native to Europe and Asia, but can now be found and caught all over the world.

Now we all know that minnows are small, but Carp are a type of minnow that don't stay that way. In fact, the largest record Carp was weighed at 105 pounds. Carp are prized fish, and one of the first questions we need to ask to catch one of these fighters is, what do Carp eat?

Carp are often lazy fish, but get a hook in one's mouth and BAM! Hold on tight, small Carp put up quite a fight. Larger models will take you for a ride.

"Revered among European anglers, carp are coming on strong in North America. And why not? What’s not to like about the chance to catch mind-numbing numbers of 6- to 10-pound fish, plus a legitimate shot at trophies tipping the scale at 20, 30, even 50 pounds or more?

Carp eat a variety of foods. They favor insects, aquatic worms, crustaceans, and mollusks, but also consume algae and other plant matter. Due to this diverse diet, a variety of carp baits trip their triggers, from natural offerings to homemade doughbaits and mass-produced softbaits, dips, boilies, and such. Surface-feeding carp even hit small bits of dog biscuits."

Some people talk a mean game of fishing, but really they don't know squat about I guess

Carp are a wide ranged versatile fish that can grow quite large and live almost anywhere and eat just about anything that will fit in their mouths

I use tin foil balls with sandwich stink on them from my lunch bag myself.

The East Europeans fish a lot for carp, because it is about the only species left in the lakes and rivers. Everything else got poisoned out or driven out by the carp. They use some kind of doughbait.

Carp is a garbage bottom feeding fish, If you catch one in a lake, it will taste like mud. What the East Euros do, is to put the fish in the bathtub for a week, and run lots of clean cold water through it. This improves the taste.
So they say, I have duck or goose for Christmas.

Carp is good for the fields.

No you don't You Don't Fish-Never Have/Never Will.

You linked a bunch of info on non-Asian fish that do take a hook-the Asian type don't- you wouldn't know the difference since you're so 'indoorsy'.

I am a notoriously unsuccessful fisherman. Dogs love me. Cats love me. Horses love me. Fish really hate me.

Dynamite.

Hand grenades.

The only bait that works, for me.
