You seem to want to make this a the right is unethical argument, I'm just trying to point out that the left wing church of hate is just as bad.

My point all along has been Ezra Levant/The Rebel is unethical. I could care less about his politics, and have mentioned that a few times already. True, there are examples of shoddy conduct on both sides of the political fence, but Ezra has center stage in this thread, not because of his political bent, but because he's an unethical hack.

Who is the authority that has deemed Levant as unethical?

It's a slippery slope between illegal and unethical... J-walking is illegal, but unethical?

Also, Levant can point to successful past appeals and/or successful Court actions himself, does that negate ethicality of the man?

My point is this; an assessment of someone's ethics (excepting extreme and/or obvious situations) is a highly subjective endeavor. The same argument(s) ca be used either way by all all parties involved

True enough. For each of us the standards we set in gauging someone's ethics will differ. In the case of Mr. Levant and The Rebel, they do not meet my standards as a credible news source simply because they have shown to be less than accurate in the past, and given to manipulating the way they reports his "facts" to support a preconceived position. I guess I'm just one of those dreamy eyed idealists who think there is still a place for objectivity, accuracy and comprehensiveness in journalism, that there are enough thinking people out there who are able to assess the facts and draw their own conclusions rather than have someone do it for them. You can understand my frustration at locating such news sources these days. One is basically forced to review multiple sources in hope of garnering enough credible information to assemble a complete picture. It's my experience that sources that show a prominent political bias (The Rebel, The Tyee, Rabble.ca, etc.) present only part of the story on any given issue, facts and theories that while accurate, will be deliberately omitted if they do not support a preconceived position. One also has to consider the motivation that drives the people publishing whatever it is they are publishing.

Those are all pertinent , however the main stream media also fits that category as well . After all their job is really to sell advertisements and subscriptions . The truth does not sell as much as sensationalism .

It's a matter of degree, there are minor offenders and prolific offenders, such as to say some are wronger than others. In any event, there's also nothing wrong with expressing displeasure at those who take the low road. Honour and integrity in the media has become less about truth and more about what they can get you to believe. Sorta like politics.

In essence, you have just described every mainstream media outlet... Pick your issue/topic and one can shop for an opinion (that in hindsight) can be proven as inaccurate and/or an unethical position.

This takes us back to what was identified as an underlying issue ~ something that is deemed illegal as immoral.... My question to you, considering different cultures maintain differing laws, are some cultures more (or less) ethical than others?

Like I said, it's a challenge to get a clear picture on any given issue, for the most part it involves multiple sources and sifting through multiple perspectives to get a comprehensive picture. Is the pervasiveness of the problem a signal to accept it as the norm or to strive to improve ?

We're straying into pretty esoteric territory there. Is there an ethical paradigm to aspire to?

I'd just like to be able to turn on the news and take what is said at face value without having to vet the source for accuracy and political distortion, but apparently that's a lot to ask for these days.

With that in mind I wouldn't classify Levant and The Rebel as anything more than comic relief.

By all means you are entitled to your opinions. I don't mean to disparage you as much as to point out that from my point of view Mr. Levant and his organization are typical of a societal descent into mediocrity and encouraging him only hastens that descent. We can do better.

We can do much, much better ... most of us, anyway. Levant appeals to a sociopathic fringe ... 5% of the population, +-.

He's enjoying wider appeal than that presently. Alberta is in turmoil as so much of the provincial economy is tied to the oilpatch, there are lot of people living in fear of the future and Levant is preying on that fear, giving them a focal point in laying blame at the feet of the NDP government. Any thinking person can see that the current government's biggest problem is coming to power at the wrong time and that any government would be faced with the same challenges the NDP are.
