The Alberta government is running advertisements claiming that closing coal-fired power plants will benefit Albertans by reducing health costs and saving lives. The anti-coal activists used an image of a little girl with an asthma inhaler. Friends of Science Society takes a look at the evidence on air quality, causes of deaths in Alberta, some asthma triggers and finds the Alberta government is skewing the story on coal. Based on our review of the evidence, closing coal-fired power plants will be a tremendous cost to Albertans with little to no health benefit - in fact, power prices will rise and hospitals need lots of power to serve public needs. Have a look at the evidence over the ideology.

If you look at the video at 0:14, that is a photo of a coal fired electrical generation plant at Giesenkirchen, Germany. That is not Alberta, and that is not smoke coming from the stacks, that is water vapor being condensed in sub-zero freezing weather. Another MSM outlet (Associated Press) misrepresenting facts.

That's like the time Harper did that ad for Chevy as production was leaving Canada.

Bill clinton and Obama decimated the coal biz down south, its not like history does not repeat itself.
So you shut the coal companies down, and then who cleans up after them?

While China, with no such restrictions, and the lower production costs, can aford factories that make cars... and who can turn more of a profit because their products cost less, while their production stink wafts over Canada with the prevailing wind.

Whats that smell?....that's chinese *** you smell there eh?

and these days coal has very clean burning technology
so this IS BS just like the carbon sausage

If the move was a valid then the big question is not about closing them down it is about why something wasn't being one about the 'killer plants' prior to this move. Coal plants run as clean as the best running gas engine. You can't even kill yourself by leaving a new car running in a closed garage anymore. You need a carb and a rich running engine to produce carbon monoxide. If anything we need to build newer ones.
I'm going to guess that the 'medical conditions given' are real but the root cause is something else that the Gov dare not fix as it makes or saves money elsewhere, for the shareholders like always.
