Merle has always been my favorite singer I have more than 35 of his albums.
Never got tired of him. I have a lot of records insured for more than 70 grand
and Merle is a significant part of it. I have country, old rock graffiti and even old
forties and jazz. but I always come back to country and Merle Haggard.
RIP

That's a cool collection. Something to be proud of. I use to have some of my mothers old albums . Even an old Anita Bryant album mom bought before Anita had her problems.
I'll bet you don't have any Henson Cargill.

His whole group, must be getting up there in age. The people I know that listened to him didn't need him to be playing to be drinking if you know what | mean.

I actually owned 1 lp of this guy just to play for Merle's fans as they used to like to use the replay option a lot. You know it is pretty old when it is about how to herd cattle is about the 4 legged kind.

I believe this was his first big hit:

... and I think it was his best because it was sung with great passion. Note the 50s style influence and the great orchestration in the background.

He kinda sounded a little like Faron Young in that one. Glad he found his own style.

Yep, and possibly a little like Slim Whitman in places! Faron was good.................too bad he went out "sideways"!

While we are mentioning the greats another one long gone is Sheb Wooley. Just love the song "That's my Pa" -they played it on the radio just the other day.
