Good to see that parade in NYC. Well deserved tribute to a fine team.

It is also good to see that womens international soccer has greatly improved - clearly the best is yet to come.

She delayed the game and she was warned and she refused to adhere to the rules. She delayed the game because she did not want the ball back on the field and that was the only way to keep it from the Americans. Either the goalie or Canadian coach had no faith in the other players and that was the tactic. Cheat and hold the ball.?

As usual you do not know what you are talking about smack. The goaltender was not warned, she was not shown a yellow card, in which case she would have been on notice that a second yellow means she would have been red carded and the team would have been down a player.

A Delay of Game warning for goaltenders is a regular occurrence in soccer.. the imposition of a Free Kick and subsequent Penalty Shot for goaltender delay is NEVER called. The British press railed against the injustice.. and the referee has never been invited back to officiate in major international tournament.

If you go back to the 2012 game.. look on the page that you posted.. you will see the play in the Gold Medal game where an American Player DELIBERATELY impeded a Japanese pass with a raised arm.. IN the penalty area.. and no penalty shot was called. The Americans went on to win by one goal. Now that is cheating.. or collusion.. or something..

Not that it would have made any difference to the Americans. You see the Gettysburg Address of American sports was delivered over 50 years ago by Vince Lombardi when he stated "Winning Isn't Everything, It's The Only Thing". You see it doesn't really matter how you play game.. its only matters that you WIN. Well done Team U.S.A.

You are actually a bigger whiner than Blackleaf. And that takes talent and effort.

Well done you.

She was warned. She delayed the game and was finally called for it after doing it repeatedly. The Canadian coach had no faith in his players against the US Women and he resorted to cheating to keep the ball away from the superior American team and was called for it.

Perhaps your team should have played harder instead of delaying the game and stomping on players on the ground. Cheaters.

Learn and Obey the Rules

The one where it really didn't hit her arm you are talking about... you just want it to have hit her arm. The replay is all out there on line and you can watch it over and over as it does not hit her arm.

Looks like the Canadian coach actually took that to heart and instead of playing fairly he tried to cheat and was caught. It also looks like you have as well which is why you are so bitter and salty after all these years.

And you waited for the World Cup 2015 in Canada and you came up so very short and your tears are so tasty.

Today Canada fielded mostly young developmental players against Ecuador in an easy 5-2 win. Some of those kids look very promising. The future is bright.

Hey, its the Americans that didn't show up to the Pan Ams.. unwilling to stake their reputation on a Canadian team that might trammel their record.

snicker

Using your own logic smack.. the US could have shown up to take on defending champions Canada at the Pan Ams.. but i guess they just accept such an exalted roster would demean themselves by competing for a mere hemispheric trophy. I guess we'll just have to assume they'd win.

Premier League kits 15/16: reviewed and ranked

With just five days to go until the new English football season, the Telegraph reviews and ranks the kits that each of the Premier League's 20 teams - from Arsenal and Bournemouth to West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United - will be playing in in 2015/16:

New shirt excitement period comes but once a year (twice if you include international shirts), although the period is getting longer and longer. Some of these new season outfits were launched months ago, while there were still several weeks of actual football to be played. Others are relatively new, but all speak to the shimmering innocence and summer-enhanced spectrum of possibilities that only a new football season can bring. But who's got the best shirt? And the worst? There's only one way to find out... Ready your cursor-clicking finger and let's begin. Starting with the worst and getting better...

Premier League kits 15/16: reviewed and ranked - Telegraph

Norwich City's third kit: "Punishable by immediate relegation."

Swansea City's away kit: "The horror, the horror."

Leicester City away kit: "A future cult classic."

Southampton away kit: "Limp."

West Bromwich Albion away kit: "Delightful."

U.S. Soccer stars file federal complaint for wage discrimination—and their case looks strong

The women of U.S. Soccer are taking their equality fight to a whole new level, officially filing a federal discrimination claim against the U.S. Soccer organization for wage discrimination:
In the filing, the five players contend that the women’s team is the driving economic force for U.S. Soccer, the governing body for the sport in America, even as its players are paid far less than their counterparts on the men’s national team, said their lawyer, Jeffrey Kessler.
The players involved in the complaint are among the most prominent and decorated female athletes in the world: the co-captains Carli Lloyd and Becky Sauerbrunn, forward Alex Morgan, midfielder Megan Rapinoe and goalkeeper Hope Solo.
Their complaint appears to be totally valid.

Goalkeeper Hope Solo makes the case in a statement released by the women who filed the complaint:
“The numbers speak for themselves,” Solo said. “We are the best in the world, have three World Cup championships, four Olympic championships, and the U.S.M.N.T. get paid more to just show up than we get paid to win major championships.”
The players and their attorney are confident in their case:
Jeffrey Kessler, the New York-based attorney for the players, said the women's national team members are paid 40 percent of what the U.S. men's national team players make.
"This is one of the strongest cases of gender discrimination I have ever seen," Kessler told USA TODAY Sports. "We have a situation here where the women's have outperformed the men on the field and in every other way yet earn fraction of what the men are paid. This is pretty open and shut case."

They may possibly have a good case. But if it is the same standard that they want across the board, then Hope Solo should have been at least suspended for domestic abuse and the USA Olympic handicapped teams should be paid the same as all else.

Whilst (men's) football is the greatest sport on Earth, women's football is just daft. Like female tennis players, it's right that they get paid less than the men. Whilst women's football may be more popular in America and Canada then men's football, elsewhere it's men's football which rules and is infinitely far more skillful and much more popular than women's football.

I think the U.S. Womens team received something like $30K each for winning the World Cup. The U.S. Men's team about $70K for making it to the Round of 16 in 2014. But when it comes down to it a Men's World Cup Final draws a world wide audience ot 3.2 billion viewers, even a first round playoff drew over 2 Billion.

The final of Women's WC got a record of 750 million in 2015 but in terms of the passion and interest, as opposed to casual interest, it would be a small per centage of that generated by the men's game .

Seems the women are getting payed well above their male counterparts in terms of sharing the economic pie and have nothing to complain about.

That is a good take on it CS.

Personally I think the US Women's Team should make more than the US Men's Team... at least equal pay.
