I just watched two short films about the front line in Ukraine, a little white flag exchange of decomposeing bodies burried after an assault yesterday. I don't speak the language but while they were exhumeing th ecadavers I got the impression they were all ready for peace.

I'm enjoying the two 1994 episodes of classic student gameshow Blockbusters, hosted by the late, great Bob Holness, that gameshow channel Challenge are showing each early weekday evening.

Here's one:



One contestant (white team) takes on two contestants (blue team). The teams choose lettered hexagons on the game board. For each chosen hexagon, the answer is a one word answer that begins with the letter in that hexagon. Whichever team answers the question correctly, the hexagon turns either blue or white depending on whether it's the blue team or the white team which correctly answered it and that team then gets to choose another hexagon. Each correct answer also wins each team £5. The blue team has to make a line of blue hexagons going left to right to win a game and the white team has to create a line of white hexagons going top to bottom to win a game. The team which wins the best of three games goes on to play in the Gold Run for a chance to win a prize whilst the losing team goes home.

been watching several games in the NCAA women's basketball tournament - I noticed that many of the players today wear leggings, knee pads, long sleeved under shirts, etc which cover every inch of their bodies

they are so fully covered that they almost look like this:











I'm telling you - every square inch except for the head and neck are now covered by many players in womens college basketball - an amazing change in the game and sports culture





mebbe the good old days of girls basketball are coming back:

today I watched Notre Dame win another game to go deep into the college playoffs - coach Muffet [neé O'Brien] McGraw made yet another fashion statement wearing five inch golden heels on the sideline


couldn't find an online pic so I'll use one from the past:









she has always been one of my biggest female sports heroes and it's great to see her teams do so well

The Moaning of Life 2

Episode 2

"Identity"



The new series of the show in which "bald Manc twonk" Karl Pilkington visits other countries in order to see how they face up to some of life's biggest issues with their cultures and customs. He also reassesses his life now that he has reached the age of 40, which he considers to be "middle age".

In this episode, Karl explores the nature of identity and how hair, apparel, language, and gender play a part. Karl starts by sending his DNA off to be analysed and getting a 'hair prosthetic' installed to cover his baldness. Then Karl travels to Mexico to experience identity tied to unique footwear and a whistled language. Heading back to the States, Karl also tries his hand at celebrity impersonation and embodying a female figure.
