LA Kings 4-3 > NY Rangers

Kings were extremely physical - the puny Rangers for all their skill got worn down & lost in OT -- this is typical of NYR teams as management always persists in having small players who simply cannot last against teams with bigger players.

Shanahan has become a hero for creating the present loser team. The Leafs have won about 36% of their games since he arrived. Tough job eh? I hope the Canucks lose to the Leafs tomorrow just to piss off Maple Leaf management.

the team was a loser team before he was hired, nothings changed, and I thought you wanted canucks
to tank, so why don't you want them to lose too, they both can't lose. lol

I think the leafs traded phaneuf to gather more money, so they can take a run at stamkos, now I hear
today, that canucks are interested in him as well, but that is just media crap, he will probably
sign in tampa bay again, and I wouldn't want canucks to pay about 8 or 9 million to one player,
he isn't that good, no player is.

a draft pick anywhere from first to about 12th is just fine, there isn't that much difference, mc david
is a once in a lifetime type of player, but he needs a hard working good team around him, just like
all real good players do, they can't win by themselves.

canucks can continue playing competitive hockey, keep their young players working hard and getting better,
one never knows, they could become a wildcard team, that central division isn't quite as strong as they
were ealier in the season. its not good to create a losing atmosphere for young players, its one thing
for fans to holler 'tank', but they don't think of the players on the team at all, and they far overestimate
draft picks that are top five, and seem to think after that players are not good, 'wrong'.
just look up what Zetterberg and datzuk were in their draft year.

and just like jim benning says, when the young players strive hard and play a playoff round, that gives
them the experience of playoffs, makes them even better the next season, gives them a taste of it.

People talk about Shanahan as if he's a genius. As one media guy said the other day what he's doing right now is easy. The difficult part will come when he is expected to win, not just lose.

I've not thought of him as a genius at all, those who know hockey know that he is just an ex player who
is trying to become an executive in the operations of a hockey organization. he has a lot of help there
as well, and he needs it.

they have now rid themselves of big contracts, left by previous people, that should give them some room
now to begin signing players who will help turn this team around, the g.m. is responsible for that, so
hopefully, (well, if one is a leaf fan, I'm not), that will begin to help them play above 500 then
even better than that, a long hard road, lots of mistakes left from previous mistake makers.

penguins have made a blunder by taking kessel, and Ottawa also by taking phuneuf, but Toronto are now
free of those contracts.

canucks have had to wait all this season till they can rid themselves of vrbata contract, maybe he will
leave at trade deadline, maybe also hamhuis, lots of money freed up when they are gone.
but benning won't give them away either, and if they do leave, it isn't tanking
either, its just working the cap for next season, so they have 'money' to spend.

NYR > Philly 3-1 in what was genuinely an old fashion NHL game

it started out with a terrific fight between Wayne Simmonds & Dylan McIlrath:

Wayne Simmonds vs Dylan McIlrath, Feb 14, 2016 - Flyers vs Blueshirts - hockeyfights.com

Simmons appeared to have won the fight but he got a bloody eye and was effectively neutralized by the Rangers D

we just don't see this type of hockey anymore and the announcers were thrilled at tonight's game

in tonight's game Wayne Simmonds did not get into a fight - because of that he was able to concentrate on just playing good hockey and was an offensive factor in the lop sided win

Black Hawks > NYR 5-3

Hawks are not as physical as many other teams but they have speed & good puck control skills which did in the Broadway Blues

I was disgusted to see the officials ignore that ugly trip on panarin when he scored the empty netter,
lucky he didn't get a broken leg, or worse.

I really don't understand the officiating in the nhl. many times officials are looking directly at
a infraction, and choose to do nothing.

last night cory perry at the end of a play in Edmonton, pushing and pounding on the top of taylor hall's
head, preventing him from standing up, hall was on his feet, but had to hunch over from the pounding
he was taking from perry, official was right there watching, and just skated away, the move looked
insane, not violent, it was retarded, and made perry look like a big child bully.

just an example of so many 'non' calls, then we se so man 'silly calls' that are so petty and almost
non existant.

I do agree with the decision on 'wideman' to keep the suspension at 20 games, the excuses from the
players association make them look stupid, why don't they all just gracefully step back, realize that
wideman did something totally pathetic and unacceptable, and take the punishment, as poor as
the officiating is on many occasions, they must be protected physically, or they will have trouble
getting them to become officials.

I don't really know what difference it makes where teams are based, players are from everywhere,

doesn't have anything to do with being in Canada or the u.s. as to where they are on the standings,

its just a coincidence that many Canadian teams are all struggling right now, usually a few, and

the few change about from time to time.

I guess its all about fans, as they are more connected to Canadian named cities, than Canadian named

players.
I guess if no Canadian teams make the playoffs, most of the Canadian fans, won't watch. ?????

Isles > Devils 1-0

a superb match but marred by a bad hit by Jordan Tootoo on Johnny Boychuk - 5 minute game misconduct for cross check

I thought tootoo had turned over a new leaf, I guess the old leaf wasn't far away.
he use to be a bit on the scary side, thought someday he would seriously hurt someone.

Canadiens’ Subban ‘really happy’ baby hit by puck is OK
John Meagher, Postmedia Network
First posted: Monday, February 22, 2016 02:00 PM EST
MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens’ season seems like a series of unfortunate events.
It started to go south months ago with an injury to star goalie Carey Price that sent the team crashing in the standings. But the latest bit of misfortune includes an infant who was rushed to a hospital Sunday after getting hit in the head by a souvenir puck at the team’s annual public practice at the Bell Centre.
According to the mother of one-month old Beatrice Meloche, the puck was apparently tossed into the stands by crowd favourite P.K. Subban.
“At the end, the players took the time to throw pucks at their young fans,” the child’s mother, Valérie Meloche, wrote on Facebook.
“Unfortunately, one of the fans who caught a puck thrown by P.K. Subban was just a month old — and she caught it with her head.”
The infant suffered a concussion, according to the mother, and there were reports the child received CPR on site. The child spent the night under observation at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, but was released on Monday.
Although it is customary for Canadiens players to toss pucks and other souvenirs into the crowd after the annual Provigo practice, Canadiens players and club officials were unaware of the incident until Monday, according to Donald Beauchamp, the club’s vice-president of communications.
“Nobody knew,” said Beauchamp, who heard about it from media reports. “We found out this morning. I made P.K. aware of that. He had no idea.”
Subban was relieved to hear the baby had been released from hospital, said Beauchamp.
“P.K. feels terrible, but he had no idea. He felt terrible at first, then he felt really happy to hear that all was good.”
Beauchamp said Subban, who pledged $10 million to the Montreal Children’s Hospital in 2015, came to see him on three occasions Monday to check on the status of the injured baby.
“P.K. was so grateful (to hear the child was okay) and he can’t wait to meet with the family.”
A member of the Habs organization also met with the baby’s family on Monday. The entire family, including three other children younger than 9, has been invited to watch a game at the Bell Centre from the Canadiens Children’s Foundation private suite.
Beauchamp said the baby was injured in a bizarre manner.
“Apparently, it was freak accident. The (tossed souvenir) puck was originally touched by an adult, who fumbled the puck. It touched two other people before ending up on the poor baby’s head.”
Canadiens players also toss three pucks into the crowd when they are chosen as the first star of NHL home games.
Beauchamp said the players often attempt to find a youngster in the crowd.
“They target the kid,” he said of the post-game souvenir ritual. “If not, the player might get mad and look at the people and say, ‘Hey, that’s where the puck is going, give it to (the kid)!’ “
As for whether the Habs will revise their policy of tossing pucks into the crowd in light of Sunday’s accident, Beauchamp said, “Let’s put it this way, whenever something like this happens, you always have to look at ... what you want to do. It’s too early to tell, but our people are very aware. ... We’re very sensitive to this.”
Is there a minimum age to attend an event at the Bell Centre, where pucks can fly over the rinkside glass?
Beauchamp was not aware of one, but he noted the fans were at a practice, not a game.
