Yes, back to the topic of the thread. Hypocrisy.

So this was on fb today. Seems to fit with the topic at hand.

The article
Abortion Rates Highest Among Christian Women, But Why?

Twila,

What makes you think that people that have a select faith/religion are completely unable to make choices for themselves?

You really need to get over your unhealthy fixation with religion

well that's your perception that it's a fixation. Do you consider my contributions of funny threads to be an unhealthy fixation on humour?

I don't think that they shouldn't be unable to make choices for themselves. We all want to have the choice to make decisions for ourselves. My interest is in their desire to deny the choice to others when they are such a high presentation of those choosing to make the decision they are trying to deny others.

Capt.M, lets talk. Lets not one up each other. I've no long term interest in seeing which of us can p!ss furthest. I am interested in your thoughts, how you came to those thoughts. I'm not interested in changing your opinion.

I remember reading an article back in the 80s about an abortion doctor in New York who noticed that an unusually high number of women having abortions were Catholic. So he started asking about it to women who came to him and was surprised by their answers. When asked why, since abortion was a sin, he was told that abortion was only one sin once in a while, while taking contraceptives was a sin every day. It was a choice between one sin verses a hundred or more so they chose abortion. Kinda makes sense if you know how the sin thing works in the church. Besides, all you gotta do is go to confession and all is forgiven (until the next time).

Probably all the trolling he was doing got in the way.

I'll agree it was probably all THE trolling and back and forth of 'no you are, no you are'. I scroll past that sh&t.

My mom left the catholic faith because after having an ectopic pregnancy that almost killed her, she was denied birth control and told that it was in gods hands even though at that time, death from this and repeats were routine.

She did not believe that god wanted her children to grow up motherless because of an error in reproduction.

Strange for sure.

The OP referrs to the refugee situation and the Christians I know that ignore the teachings of Jesus. Just about everybody has made it about more.

Possibly because the hypocritical are trying desperately to defend their hypocrisy by introducing straw man arguments.

Yes, I expected that sort of thing. I just thought one of the usual suspects would see the light...pun intended...but alas, the hate is strong

People read/listen to respond. They often don't read/listen to understand. I think that's a failing of the school system. "By route" learning is fine for elementary school but does not promote critical thinking, instead promotes the listen to respond in high school and College.

Maybe philosophy courses should make a comeback as important in higher education.

The collective is terrified of the philosophical, critical thinking is very scary stuff if you have a closed and locked mind. All they have is ridicule to bolster their false sense of superiority. Anybody who doesn't support the status quo is a dangerous and terrifying person.

I don't think he can lay claim to the start of saying silly and it's nicer then calling someone an azzhat, azzhole, an idiot, putz,

It annoys people. That's too bad, its' the nature of the beast when it comes to a back and forth on forums.
I agree. Personally I think it is a silly habit to be fixated on one word. The ad hominems I mentioned in my last post were not all just "silly" comments either. Cannuck attempts a slightly wider scope of insults than just that.

The next bit is NOT directed at you, AnnaG: There many here get upsets when they don't agree with the opinions of another repeatedly and are unable to make a connection somewhere so they become antagonistic and try to catch each other in some error, perceived error, or some such and then dart in with derogatory language in the hopes of 1 upping them.

Seems a hard way to go about holding a dialogue but there it is.
It seems so.

Heavens, no. Whatever would possess you to say such a thing. Have I ever ridiculed you or any of the collective or tried to make you or any of them feel inferior? If that is what you perceive, then I apologize. It was unintentional.

why does there have to be a winner and loser ? what about a discussion where both learn from each other. debate sucks never really liked it. nothing more than arguing. and even if you're wrong, you still think you need to win. it's stupid
It is an ego thing, Ludlow. People in general tend to like having the idea they are smarter, better, etc than others.
I agree, arguing is debating. Simply disagreeing, whether accompanied by ad hominems and other logical fallacies, is not and contributes nothing to discussion.
Personally, I learn stuff from arguing. Mostly because I research a lot just because of stuff that was said.
