Have the Russians put a hold on cruise missile strikes? I am sure Iran is not very happy with them running out of gas over Iran.

Predictable is more like it as the losing side resorts to such tactics. The really sad/bad part is that once the pattern is obvious then past events sometimes take on a whole new light. That is a topic for a different thread.

The measure "nautical mile" is the length of arc of the Earth's surface that one actually travels when going a straight-line mile on a map. It is irrelevant whether that happens in a boat, an airplane or hopping along on a pogo stick.

I think the US did not want their premier weapons platform to be humiliated by Russia the way the USS Donald Cook was. US weapons are costly and look fearsome, but it may be more bark than bite. Earlier this year, the USS Theodore Roosevelt was part of a training operation in which a French submarine, the Saphir, took part as the "enemy." In an incident that has been since hushed up, the Saphir was able to evade the US' ASW assets, penetrate the battle group, and "sink" not only the USS Theodore Roosevelt but some of the escorts, all by itself!

Along with the regular interval launch sequence the noisy and smoky phase was replaced by something that looked like a fast receding 'star'. I have to assume that was when the 'ram jet engines' had enough speed to crank over and ignite, 'cruise control' if you will.
