Rugby is pretty pathetic.

It's a fast, fierce and exciting game. It sure makes football look pathetic. It doesn't stop-start-stop-start every twenty seconds with those boring set piece attacks. The truly pathetic part of football is that they all have to dress up in body armour to bash into each other for a few seconds of every minute. Rugby players bash into each other as hard or harder with no pads or helmets and they keep moving ... and they only substitute when one of them gets carried off the field in a stretcher.

No wonder the Americans got creamed

Big babies ...

It'll either be South Africa, Australia or New Zealand who will win it, one of the three mighty Southern Hemisphere sides. Once again, the Southern Hemisphere sides seem to be one or two steps above everyone else. Whichever of those three it is it'll be for a record third time.

Too right.

By the way, rugby is the fastest-growing sport in North America right now. During the last five years, the number of rugby participants in the USA alone has increased 14% EACH YEAR to climb to a total of 1.2 million participants throughout the country.

A year ago, USA played the mighty New Zealand All Blacks at Soldier Field in Chicago and 62,000 people packed the stadium to watch. New Zealand won 74-6.

It's still got a long way to catch up with England, though. England (and that's just England, not including the rest of the UK) has something like 40% of the world's rugby union players.

Which should be an utter embarrassment to the Brits.

In N. America we could care less.

Twenty years from now and rugby union and football (real football) will be your two most popular sports. People will no longer flock to watch the Los Angeles Raiders or Chicago Cubs. They'll be flocking to watch the Denver Barbarians and LA Galaxy.

How foolish. The Jets and Dolphins played this weekend in England and it was the major sporting event in the UK. Full House... the place was packed.

Football is far superior to soccer and rugby. Brits should stick to tea making and submission to islam.

I follow the Rugby Union World Cup with more interest than i do the soccer World Cup.

It's no surprise that the Americans do so poorly in such an genuine sport. They do much better in one designed to provide plenty of commercial space and interruptions, one lacking an identity and personality.. like American Football.

But its impossible to convince an American that anything they came up with.. isn't the best there is.. just by way of being 'American' (google eyed group sigh).

A totally boring game.. even by NFL standards.. which really goes into the realm of narcolepsy.

Any moderately intelligent on looker can see the difference between the contrived concoction and monotony of American Football.. and its original and authentic ancestor.

Sorry that you are odd.

Which of course is much better than rugby.

Sorry that you are envious.

You seem to be on the short side again. *snicker*

Does the score 50-7 mean anything to you?

Total failure

Well, this summer we went to the PanAm games and watched the Rugby Sevens competitions. Both the Canadian mens and women's teams walked away with gold. Both creamed their American opponents, BTW.

The Rugby Union World Cup is the major sporting event in the UK.

The number of people who watched the 2014 Super Bowl peaked at just 1.2 million in the UK.

Football is far more popular in Canada than rugby.

Here are two stats: Rugby union is the fastest growing sport in both Canada and USA. And in Canada, the largest sport in terms of number of players is football (or "soccer", as you call it).

Eddie Jones: England have lacked bulldog spirit at World Cup

BBC Sport
9 October 2015

England have lacked their traditional "bulldog spirit" since winning the 2003 World Cup, says Japan boss Eddie Jones.

Jones, whose side can still qualify for the last eight of this year's tournament, added that he would discuss the England role if it was available.

"There are definitely issues in the English game," Jones, who was Australia coach when England beat them in the final 12 years ago, told BBC Sport.

"England teams usually have a strong set-piece, a strong defence."

Jones' Japan side caused the shock of the World Cup so far when they beat two-time champions South Africa in their opening match of the tournament.

Eddie Jones led the Wallabies between 2001 and 2005 and also worked on South Africa's World Cup win in 2007, when they beat England 15-6 in a final also remembered for Mark Cueto's wrongly disallowed try for England

His appointment as head coach of South African Super Rugby side Stormers was confirmed shortly after he humbled the Springboks - but he says he would consider an approach from the Rugby Football Union if it decides to replace current England head coach Stuart Lancaster.

"You speak to anyone," the Australian said.

"I have not indicated that I want to coach England or desire the job, but certainly if the RFU came knocking at the door I would chat to them."

On England's struggles, he added: "Clive Woodward's side in 2003 was built around a very strong set-piece and defence.

"Over the six years Woodward had them, they built a very good all-round attacking game. That is the basis for every successful international team."

Jones also believes captain Chris Robshaw does not justify his place in the number seven shirt.

"I just don't think that Robshaw is an open-side flanker, he is more a six and a half," he said.

"If you can't find a proper open-side flanker that is playing in England - which seems to be the case - then there has to be some sort of structural problem."

England beat Australia 20-17 in the Aussies' own backyard to win the 2003 Rugby World Cup. England were also ranked No1 in the world at the time

2015 Rugby World Cup

Wales vs Australia

K.O: 16.45BST
At Twickenham, London
Capacity: 82,000

Wales have not beaten two-time champions Australia in their last ten Tests, stretching back to 2008

BBC Sport
9 October 2015

Wales go into Saturday's World Cup Pool A decider trying to buck a trend that has seen them lose their last 10 Tests against Australia.

Both sides have secured quarter-final places by beating England in the tournament's most difficult group.

The losers at Twickenham on Saturday know they will still progress, but South Africa await them next in the quarter final.

The winners will face either Scotland or Japan and should have an easier path towards the final.

The odds are stacked in Australia's favour, not just because of their impressive performance in humbling England 33-13 last weekend but because the Wallabies last lost to Wales in November 2008.

"We haven't spoken about it at all," was Wales coach Warren Gatland's reaction when asked about that losing streak.

"The last five times there's been a score in it. We've been ahead in games and haven't been able to finish it off but you learn from that.

"In the last big game in the autumn against South Africa we closed that game down [when Wales won 12-6].

"We were brilliant against England in the last 10 to 15 minutes coming from behind and then showing maturity under a lot of pressure to close that game out.

"Hopefully if we're in that same situation on Saturday night we're able to be smart and accurate enough to shut the game down."

Wales' last victory over Australia was a 21-18 win at the Millennium Stadium in November 2008

The number of people who knew about the Rugby World Cup in the US peaked at just about 2.... only because of a CanCon thread.

I doubt that very much.

Dave Gallaher 1905 All Blacks jersey sells for £180,000

BBC News
9 October 2015

A New Zealand All Blacks rugby jersey dating back 110 years has been sold for £180,000 at auction.

Dave Gallaher wore the shirt during the 1905 tour of the British Isles and swapped it with Wales captain Gwyn Nicholls after a match.

It went under the hammer at Rogers Jones & Co in Cardiff on Friday where it had been expected to sell for £20,000 - £40,000.

The buyer was based in the UK and bid over the phone.

After getting the shirt, Nicholls subsequently gave it to a van boy at his laundry business, Thomas Mahoney, whose family have kept it ever since.

David Rogers Jones, of Rogers Jones & Co, said: "We're totally astonished. The bidding started off at about £35,000 and lasted for about 10 minutes, going up and up and up.

"We were hoping to break the previous world record for a rugby shirt of £22,000 and have certainly done that."

A bronze statue of Gallaher, who died in 1917 in Belgium while serving in World War One, was unveiled outside the home of New Zealand rugby, Eden Park, in 2011.

Way too funny

We beat Fiji 35-11; we then lost 25-28 against Wales; and then we lost 33-13 against Australia.

So, the short answer is that you lost, right?
