Exactly. In Alberta the NDP, with only forty percent of the popular vote control just over 60% of the seats in the legislature. They pretty much have a blank cheque to pursue a left wing agenda while 60% of voters supported the right. And pissing off the oil based corporate community isn't a particularly great place to start as that's where the money comes from.

What was it Margaret Thatcher said ?

"Give me the children's milk! ALL of their milk! So that I may present it as an offering to my master. Hail Satan!"

Something like that.

Actually I was thinking of the one that went something like: "The trouble with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money."
Arguably the single dumbest, most inaccurate thing she ever said, yet fanboys still cream their jeans over it to this day.

Go figure.

Yeah, all the socialists hate that one. But my personal favorite is that they're going to start burying socialists only a foot deep when they die. That way they can still get their hand out.

Anybody with ninth-grade understanding of economics knows it's complete BS.

Sorry, make that "grade nine."

The Tories lost because they were allowed to practice unbridled Conservatism they did what
they wanted to benefit their own segment of society and the people including many in business

Bulls***. What you are describing isn't Conservatism, any more than it is Liberalism or socialism: its political complacency. The Tories were in power too long and stopped renewing themselves from within, which is what they had done to a large degree. Lougheed was the Man, Getty was a well-meaning idiot, Ralph was the King who slew the debt and deficit, but Stelmach, Redford and Prentice failed to adapt to the changing reality of governance or to plan ahead.

The PCs deserved to be fired and they were. Now we get to see what kind of job the NDP will do... and hopefully they won't f*** things up like they did in Ontario and BC. If they stay moderate, like their platform, and don't cave in to their traditional base, things could be alright.

Yeah, that's been around for awhile and it's so true!

There's one way to fix that- bury them face down!

Yeah, that explains why Britain has an external debt of 406% of GDP, because they're not "spending other people's money."

Whilst "socialist" Germany, which "spends other people's money" like water, has an external debt of 145% of GDP.

Or, for that matter, why socialist China has an external debt of 37% of GDP, whilst the United States, probably the least socialist country in the developed world, has an external debt of 106% of GDP. Because China "spends other people's money," and the U.S. don't.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not supporting socialism. I despise socialism. But saying socialism is bad because it spends other people's money is like saying Nazis are bad because they don't bathe. Yes, Nazis are bad. But it ain't because they don't bathe.

They are famous for taxing people to support freeloaders. We had an N.D.P. Gov't here back in the 70s and the hippies were getting a dog allowance. I'm not sure how many hippies claimed the same dog! :)

I agree completely. Which is not "spending other people's money." If spending other people's money is socialist, why does the Canadian Soviet Socialist Republic (just ask any American Republican) have a lower debt-as-a-percentage-of-GDP than the cruel, merciless, starve-granny-in-the-streets U.S. (just ask any Canadian Lib or NDPer, or even half of the PCs)?

Was this a protest vote that got out of hand?

I'm not sure it got out of hand, it was like more repugnance commensurate with the corruption! Can you imagine a Premier stupid enough to fly her daughter on the public's tab?

Might as well raise a drink to the Alberta NDP and toast them with a tall glass of screwed driver with orange juice and some of the good juice because the they will have to suffer through a four year hang over.
