The new James Bond film is to be called Spectre.

British director Sam Mendes revealed the title at a launch event at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, where principal photography is due to begin on Monday.

Daniel Craig will play 007 for the fourth time in the film, to be released in the UK on 23 October 2015. He is the seventh actor to play the British Secret Service agent. In the film he will drive the Aston Martin DB10.

Other cast members were also announced at Thursday's event, which was beamed around the world.

They include Sherlock's Andrew Scott, as an MI5 employee called Denbigh, and Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista, playing a henchman called Mr Hinx.

Italian actress Monica Bellucci and France's Lea Seydoux have been unveiled as the new Bond girls, named Lucia Sciarra and Madeleine Swann respectively.

As expected, double Oscar winner Christoph Waltz will play a character called Oberhauser in the film.

The name of the character is the same as that of Bond's former ski instructor, though it has been rumoured Waltz will really be playing Bond's old nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

Spectre will be the 24th Bond film and the first since Skyfall in 2012.

The Bond film series has grossed just over US$6 billion to date, making it the second-highest-grossing film series behind fellow British series Harry Potter, and the single most successful adjusted for inflation.

Spectre - Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion - was the name of the international crime syndicate, whose 'Number One' was Blofeld himself.

The organisation featured in the Bond films of the 1960s and was part of a legal tussle with a rival film producer that was recently resolved after many years.

Thursday's event also saw the unveiling of the Aston Martin DB10 which Bond will be driving in his latest screen adventure.

Bond's old nemesis, the cat-stroking Blofeld, head of the global criminal organisation SPECTRE, may be making a return

Returning cast members Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Rory Kinnear were also presented before the world's media, alongside Craig himself.

Craig, 46, first played Ian Fleming's legendary secret agent in 2006's Casino Royale, then in 2008's Quantum of Solace and 2012's Skyfall.

According to the film studio, the plot will see "a cryptic message from Bond's past send him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation.

"While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind Spectre."

The full cast of Spectre pose for the world's photographers

The 007 production will be based at Pinewood Studios and on location in London, Mexico City, Rome and Tangier and Erfoud, in Morocco.

Bond will return to the snow once again, this time in Solden, along with other Austrian locations, Obertilliach, and Lake Altaussee.

Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said they were "excited to announce Daniel's fourth instalment in the series".

They also said they were "thrilled that Sam has taken on the challenge of following on the success of Skyfall with Spectre".

As always with a new Bond film, we'll be awaiting the new film's opening theme song and which famous person will be singing it. I think it was Adele who sang the Skyfall song. The song usually does well in the UK charts.

Top James Bond film quotes

Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
Bond: “I always enjoyed learning a new tongue.”
Moneypenny: “You always were a cunning linguist, James.”

Thunderball (1965)
Bond: “My dear, uncooperative Domino.”
Domino: “How do you know that? How do you know my friends call me Domino?”
Bond: “It’s on the bracelet on your ankle.”
Domino: “So, what sharp little eyes you’ve got.”
Bond: “Wait ’till you get to my teeth.”

The World is Not Enough (1999)
Bond: “I was wrong about you.”
Christmas Jones: “Yeah, how so?”
Bond: “I thought Christmas only comes once a year.”

The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
Bond: “Miss Anders! I didn’t recognize you with your clothes on.”

Octop ussy (1983)
Vijay: “I hear the Island is exclusively for women, no men allowed.”
Bond: “Sexual discrimination, I will definitely have to pay it a visit.”

What would Bond say? Daniel Craig ridiculed on Twitter for wearing a 'Christmas jumper' at launch of the new 007 film

Daniel Craig left the Twittersphere more than just a little shaken and stirred when he turned up to launch of the new James Bond film donning a navy blue crew-neck (left). The actor also decided to pair the 'sensible' jumper with grey trousers, a white shirt and a plain pair of black shoes - setting pulses racing for all the wrong reasons. Despite the excitement surrounding the event, it wasn't long before the questionable ensemble was the talk of the launch, sending Twitter into meltdown. Mark Machado swiftly announced: 'Daniel Craig has officially opened Christmas jumper season' (middle right) while one user was baffled that the actor had rocked up to the event 'in a Dad jumper looking like a drunk supply teacher' (bottom right). One Photoshop-savvy user also superimposed a reindeer onto Craig's top, in a spoof 'Christmas jumper' image which swept the internet (top right).

Is this the real star of the new Bond film? 007 will drive an Aston Martin made specially for Spectre - but he'd better be careful, they're only making 10 of them (and no, you can't buy one)

Aston Martin is celebrating 50 years since James Bond first drove one of their cars in the 1960s film Goldfinger

The company have built 10 of a new custom-made 'DB10' model for the new film, Spectre, launched today

The model will not go on sale in dealerships and the 10 used in the film will be the only ones produced

Director Sam Mendes worked alongside the car's designers and developers to make sure it suited the film's needs

Sportscar firm are not revealing the specifications or details of the car, which they say is a 'nod to the future'

James Bond is known for blowing up, crashing or otherwise destroying the cars Q branch spend years carefully engineering for him.

But 007 will have to take care of his new Aston Martin - as the British sportscar brand has only built 10 of a new model designed exclusively for his latest film,Spectre.

The car, called the DB10, was unveiled this morning at the launch party of the movie, which will be Daniel Craig's fourth as the legendary spy.

The manufacturer is being as tight-lipped as MI5 about the specifications of the car, which will not go on sale and will only be driven by Bond. They say the vehicle is a 'nod to future designs' and they are keeping the machine as far away as possible from rival firms who they fear may try to copy its sleek design.

Film producers and crew have also yet to reveal what gadgets the car will have, following the famous ejector seats, rocket launchers and even built-in defibrillators of previous models.

Aston Martin have created 10 custom-built DB10s for the new Bond film, Spectre, it was announced today. The car will not be mass produced

Only 10 of the cars have been built especially for the film and developers are keeping details secret for fear other companies will copy it. Producers are even keeping tight-lipped about what gadgets - the trademark of Bond cars - the vehicle will have

The car was developed by Aston Martin and Sam Mendes, the director of the latest Bond film, who unveiled the machine this morning

The car was made at Aston Martin's Gaydon headquarters and celebrates 50 years since James Bond first drove an Aston Martin in Goldfinger

Aston Martin say they worked closely with Bond director Sam Mendes to create 'the ultimate car for the world's most famous spy'.

It is the 50th anniversary of Bond's use of an Aston Martin, which started in the film Goldfinger when Sean Connery drove the iconic DB5.

The firm's CEO Dr Andy Palmer said: 'In the same year that we celebrate our 50-year relationship with 007, it seems doubly fitting that today we unveiled this wonderful new sports car created especially for James Bond.

'It is great news for this company and for everyone around the world that loves to see Bond at the wheel of an Aston Martin. I'm incredibly proud of everyone in the team at Gaydon who have brought this special project from concept to reality.'

Bond drove Aston Martins in the 1960s, with Connery the first to get behind the wheel of one of the sportscars, followed by George Lazenby, who used a DBS in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, in which the car featured in the famous final scene where Bond's newly-married wife, the Countess Tracy di Vicenzo played by Diana Rigg, is shot through the windscreen.

Aston Martins were then reprised in the late 1980s, when Timothy Dalton drove a V8 Vantage Volante in the film, The Living Daylights.

The car was shown off at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire today at the launch of the new film, due out next year

Making a Spectre-cle! Daniel Craig is back in James Bond mode as he flies down the Thames in a speed boat with Rory Kinnear

By Becky Freeth for MailOnline
15 December 2014
Daily Mail

A first glimpse of filming for the 24th James Bond was never going to be without its action.

So when Daniel Craig was captured flying along London's River Thames on a speed boat, even he couldn't disguise his excitement.

Daniel, back in 007 mode, was joined by Rory Kinnear in character as MI6's Bill Tanner - though the men were more entertaining between takes when they pulled thrilled faces against the wind to make their way to the capital's famed Secret Service MI6 Headquarters.

Thrill-seekers: Daniel Craig and Rory Kinnear were back in 007 mode as Daniel Craig and Bill Tanner to film early scenes of Spectre on London's River Thames

Keeping it local: Daniel reprises his role as the British spy for a fourth time as the team filmed in front of London's famed Secret Intelligence Service MI6 Headquarters

Both men, suited and booted for their parts, didn't appear to be in action mode as they gripped tightly to the front of the boat with leather gloves.

But Daniel, 46, was exposing his inner thrill-seeker as he smiled widely while the speed boat passed through London's waterway at pace during the early morning hours of Monday.

It was just another Monday morning for the James Bond actor who reprises his British spy role for a fourth time this year, following up on the success of Skyfall, Quantum Of Solace and Casino Royale.

All smiles: While Rory gripped the bar in apparent fear, Daniel smiled through the cold wind at the fast pace jaunt

Just passing through: The MI6 duo flew along the London water way to commence filming on the Bond movie

Not without its action: The film already looked like it was going to be an action-packed one

Better than Bond: Daniel Craig originally said the scripts were looking better than Skyfall already

New James Bond script stolen in Sony attack
Reuters
First posted: Saturday, December 13, 2014 11:32 PM EST | Updated: Sunday, December 14, 2014 12:06 AM EST
LOS ANGELES – Early villains have emerged in the next James Bond film "SPECTRE": hackers who stole a version of the screenplay as part of a devastating cyberattack on Sony Pictures.
Producers of the James Bond films said they learned on Saturday morning that an early version of the "SPECTRE" script was among material stolen and made public by hackers who infiltrated computers at the Sony studio.
"Eon Productions is concerned that third parties who have received the stolen screenplay may seek to publish it or its contents," Eon said in a statement, while warning that the script is protected by U.K. copyright laws.
"SPECTRE," starring Daniel Craig as 007, is set for release on Nov. 6, 2015. Filming began this month after producer Barbara Broccoli and director Sam Mendes unveiled the title, cast and new car, but little about the plot.
"I was so excited to tell this story but to explain why, I would have to tell you the plot and I can't do that," said Mendes at the presentation in England, a reminder of Sony's might in the movie world.
The Bond franchise is one of the most lucrative for Sony Pictures and the last installment "Skyfall" brought in $1.1 billion worldwide, more than any other Bond film.
A Sony spokesman said news reports that the cyberattack forced the studio to stop production on films, including "SPECTRE," were wrong.
"Productions are still moving forward," Robert Lawson told Reuters.
Hackers launched an attack on the Sony Corp. entertainment arm on Nov. 24, disabling the computer network and stealing and leaking a trove of sensitive information in the most severe cyberattack on a company on U.S. soil. The identity of the hackers has yet to be determined.

Idris Elba frontrunner to replace Daniel Crag as James Bond

An email leaked as part of the Sony Pictures hacking scandal has named British actor Idris Elba as the frontrunner to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond.
The star has long been rumoured to be a potential replacement for Craig when he eventually steps down from playing 007, and now Elba has been hailed as a serious contender after he was named in an email sent by Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal.
In the note, which was sent to Elizabeth Cantillon, former executive vice president of production for Columbia Pictures, the firm which distributes the Bond films, Pascal writes, "Idris should be the next Bond."
The email, which was obtained by The Daily Beast, emerged online after hackers penetrated the Sony Pictures database, stealing confidential information and even the script for the latest Bond movie Spectre.

Only because he's black.

We're in the PC age now where, in Doctor Who, the Master has regenerated as a woman for the first time (so we have the weird situation in which a woman is called the Master), paving the way for the Doctor himself to soon be a woman. So it doesn't surprise me that Bond will soon be a negroid. Ten years from now and James Bond will be a black, paraplegic, lesbian Muslim woman.

No. James Bond was not black. As one who first read Ian Fleming's books back in the fifties and sixties, I have a firm idea who Bond is. He is not black! A black guy just would not have fit the part. It is not about putting down someone because of skin colour, It is that James Bond was, of necessity, a white guy who Knew how to drive, how to fight, how to gamble, knew which wine went with which dish, He was an ex-Comander in the British navy. Were Bond alive to day, he would be ninety years old.

The idea of a black rapper as James Bond is just silly. Ian Flemming must be positively spinning in his grave. Making "M" a female was bad enough. Obviously, Fleming's stories and characters are not that important to the gang of nits that now run the Bond show..

Idris Elba addresses James Bond rumours
Maane Khatchatourian, Variety.com
First posted: Saturday, December 27, 2014 02:58 PM EST | Updated: Saturday, December 27, 2014 03:08 PM EST
LOS ANGELES – Idris Elba has responded to the rumours that he may be the next James Bond.
Speculation has been high in recent weeks following the release of a hacked email sent in early January by Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal to Elizabeth Cantillon, former exec VP of production for Columbia Pictures, which distributes the Bond films, that read "Idris should be the next bond." However, here's been online chatter for years now suggesting that the British actor should be next 007.
The "Luther" star addressed the topic coyly on Twitter in classic Elba form.
This tweet also comes on the heels of radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh's controversial comments that James Bond must be "white and Scottish." Elba would be the first black Bond.
"James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish. Period. That is who James Bond is, was," Limbaugh said. "But now (they are) suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton, rather than a white from Scotland. But that's not who James Bond is."
"I know it's racist to probably point this out," he also acknowledged.
Elba has tackled the rumour of replacing Daniel Craig as the suave British spy before. He told NPR in 2011 that he's not interested in so-called "black roles."
"I just don't want to be the black James Bond," Elba said. "Sean Connery wasn't the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn't the blue-eyed James Bond, so if I played him, I don't want to be called the black James Bond."
The upcoming Bond pic "Spectre," which was hard hit by the Sony hack when its script was stolen, opens in theatres on November 6, 2015.

James Bond fans see filming of Spectre on River Thames in London

Fans saw a speedboat scene being filmed near Vauxhall on the River Thames

James Bond fans lined the River Thames to watch 007 stunts being filmed in London.

Some bridges over the Thames were temporarily closed to the public as film crew warned pedestrians from getting too close to the action on Sunday night.

Members of the production told bystanders Daniel Craig would be taking part in a scene filmed on a speedboat.

The film, called Spectre, is scheduled for release on 6 November.

A Daniel Craig stunt double took part in the speedboat stunts

It comes after the success of Skyfall in 2012, which grossed £700m worldwide.

The 007 production will be based at Pinewood Studios and filmed on location in London, Mexico City, Rome and Tangier and Erfoud, in Morocco.

Daniel Craig returns as Bond, playing him for the fourth time.

Other cast members include Sherlock's Andrew Scott, as a Whitehall-based character called Denbigh, and Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista, playing a henchman called Mr Hinx.

Italian actress Monica Bellucci and France's Lea Seydoux have been unveiled as the new 'Bond girls', named Lucia Sciarra and Madeleine Swann respectively.

Taylor Swift should play the new Bond.

I think we should prepare ourselves for the travesty of a woman playing the new Bond.

What with female Ghostbusters and Superman now being a girl and Dr Who one day becoming a woman, too, it seems only natural that Bond is the next thing that some dopey bird will muscle into.

Nothing is sacred. Why can't the bloody feminists just leave things alone? James Bond is a man and that's they way it should be.

I'm telling you. The Western world is slowly becoming more feminised by the hour.
