I well remember the LONG Stanley Cup drought the Rangers had and for many years the fans screamed at team management for failing to put together the proper personnel that would give them the Cup. Then back in 1994 when they finally won, the fans celebrated like heck. I would imagine that Leaf fans must be giving team ownership absolute Hell for their prolonged hiatus as Cup winners.

Not really. Toronto sees the Leaves as losers and accept it. By contrast, edmontonians are just about ready to riot in the streets over their team's performance over the last few years

Do you know why?

Interesting because I don't honestly recall seeing anything from the sports media about this. Back in the 1960s Toronto and Montreal had an incredibly heated rivalry. This because it was still the era of the Original Six and because both teams led the NHL in Cup wins with Montreal getting the most in the years leading up to '67. In fact, the rivalry likely surpassed that of the Yankees-Red Sox or Giants-Dodgers.

What could possibly have forced Leaf fans to just give up like that??

It's the culture of the city. Edmonton sees itself as a winner and expect to be competitive. It's not just a hockey thing. It's football and it's business/economics. I don't think it's just an Edmonton thing either. It's a western Canadian thing. The future is in Western Canada so movers, shakers, leaders and people with gumption leave the east to come here. People here arent content to sit around waiting for things to happen.

Devils out played Nats but their goalie Anderson kept the net empty of Devil pucks.

Interesting segment on Toronto and its deal which sent Tom Kurvers from the Devils in exchange for draft rights for Scott Niedermeyer. Kurvers (Bloomington, MN) was one of Gopherland's greatest amateur players and was a fair NHL pro. But Niedermeyer is a Hall of Famer and one of the best during his era. Seems that the folks in Toronto has never quite forgiven team management for making that deal.

shame on devils fans for booing them, they should be ashamed.

i listened to that curver's story too, very interesting, and what a player devils had all those years
with neidermeyer, he was like gold., and he captained canada to gold in vAncouver in 2010
Again, in toronto, it is the fans, who don't think much past anything but winning and losing, i pretty
well ignore most of what most fans whine about, almost all of them couldn't play or manage any hockey
team if their life depended on it, they seem to do their whining about money and losing, but have no
clue, and don't care why winning and losing happens.

i'm burned out from media and fans, how can ya tell, lol

well the outcome of this game was, that one and only goal for the majority of the game, let in by
eddie lack, one he should have had, and he knew that instantly it went by him, but certainly can't
blame the game loss on him, thats only one goal.

letinen was the story, doesn't really matter what else happened in thAt game, he brought magic with
him, and decided that 'nothing' was going to get by him tonight, and it didn't.
many very good shots, good scoring chAnces by the canucks were fired at him, and he turned all of
them away.

the game changed once or twice back and forth, where one team or the other was dominant, but canucks
deserved to win this one, and i was pleased with their game, they didn't let me down at all.

its a loss, sure, but i enjoyed their effort, their chances, their goalkeeping, can't ask for more
than that.

Does any know how the Canucks standings after 31 games this year compare to the 31 game mark last year?

haven't got a clue. just remember it was after xmas last year that the big slide started.
other than anaheim, it wouldn't take many losses for any top teams to quickly slide into 8th or
even lower for a while, as standings are so close.
i'm not going to dwell on that, i'm going to watch each game, one at a time, and
just as i did with last nights game, i will evaluate that way. the outcome of
last nights game could have been greatly in canucks favour if letenon had of
played like he has many times this year, but he was definitely on top of his
game last night, as those shots and chances from canucks were mostly very
dangerous, good plays, good shots.
how they win and lose is the point, how they play, how they try, and how their
goalies play.

what was your opinion of last nights game, disregarding the score.

The Canucks had lots of good chances, but good chances without scoring are just good chances. I'm afraid I want our home team to win. Good chances mean little.when the team loses.....less when it's the fourth loss in a row......Sorry...

don't know what the sorry means.

its just where i have arrived juan, lots of hockey games have come and gone over the years, and i am
in a different place now.
because they lost, for me, doesn't take away from how the game was played, and i can't dwell on the
outcome, i'm tired of that, there is so much more to the game than the score.

when they win it is the icing on the cake, so good for them.

that is the way i will be for the duration now, so maybe it is me who should say sorry, but no way,
cause i'm not. lol

rumours today ; jim benning talking trades with peter cherelli in boston.

the rumours came from the east. burrows and higgins names were mentioned. wow, can you imagine if
canucks were lucky enough to acquire 'brad marchand', yuk, oh well.

Talloola, this team can do better than they are doing. They've got some good players, they've even got some good scorers. What the hell is wrong with them? For a time I thought the Canucks had two of the best goal tenders in the league....Maybe they do.....Maybe they just have to start putting the puck in the opposing net....

the first look is to the twins, they have completely shut down, that is the top line

secondly the next line, they are suppose to back up the top line with scoring as well

this is all about execution, not coaching.

the teams first and second lines were scoring just fine for quite a while, twins looked very good, not
any more, they look very ordinary, they look soft, their skating isn't good enough, their constant
attempt to repeat over and over their little tricky passes to each other are 'not' working, they
have to change it up.

bonino has shut down, he looked very very good along with burrows and higgins, not now, higgins hasn't
done anything much, bonino the same, and burrows is checking hard, getting into people's faces, but
can't be the scorer on a line with those two players, he needs better players with him, or he becomes
ordinary too.

mathias, for me is the bright spot, i think he will blossom into a very strong power forward as time
goes on, wonderful skater, very strong on the boards as well, and they need kassian to come back,
he hasn't played enough consistent hockey this season to find his potential, they need the big body,
the good passing and skating from him.

and the defense is struggling, bieksa is trying to do far too much with hamhuis out, and he can't, he needs
to settle down and just do his job, and spisa needs to settle down too, too many mistakes, tanev is
the best defenseman out there, then it drops off right now, they need humhuis, but probably won't see him
for a while yet. maybe benning can swing a trade, but it is so hard, because to get a good defenseman
they have to give up 'more' than forward for forward, and that will take away from the offense.

the coach can't go out there and do it for them, he can work on the lines and try to put together lines
that will have success, can't do much more than that, if he does nothing, he will be trashed, and if
he keeps moving players around, he will get trashed, we must remember he seemed to know how to coach
just fine till 5 games ago, and that road trip didn't help.

miller will play next game, if he can't be lights out, and help the team out in his net, then they
will have to take a second look at playing lack more, that was an unfortunate soft goal last night
but the rest of the night for him was great, that is only one goal.

i knew they weren't going to stay at the top of the conference all season, there were too many good
teams right behind them, who were not playing up to their potential, so they will all have their
ups and downs, canucks just need to be inside top 8 by playoff time.

The Nuck's, like the Flames, were playing over their heads. There weren't too many people picking either to make the post season so things are as expected. Every team goes through hot and cold streaks. The Nuck's and Flames just went through them right out of the gate and got peoples hopes up. Perhaps if the Jets continue with this horrible string of injuries, they may falter and leave a space open for one of their weaker Canadian sisters.

i have to add, last night they could 'easily' have won the game, if dallas goalie hadn't shut the door

all night, and i feel everyone is blowing this way out of proportion right now, how quickly all of their

success they had is forgotton, and the losses dwelled on, and i'm afraid the wins are dwelled on as

well, as everyone expects them to continue winning all the time, doesn't happen that way, so lets

take the bad with the good, AND like we said at the beginning of the season, lets make the playoffs,

then who knows, lets not expect them to ride this season at the top, not reasonable.

no one thought they would even make the playoffs when season started, well, now they are about where

we thought they would be, somewhere between 6th and 9th, at least thats where i thought they would be

most of the season, that is the way this division is, strong teams all scrapping for playoff spots, so

hopefully canucks can be one of those, even if it is 7th or 8th, then its wildcard.

for me its all about 'enjoying' the games, and how can anyone enjoy any canuck game if you have to

shut it off at any sign of trouble, thats sad.

the biggest problem i see with canuck fans, is that they don't know anything about the rest of the

division, but expect canucks to beat all of them, also unreasonable.

this expression, 'playing over their heads' is silly, how about the rest of the conference playing

'under their heads', thats silly too, teams just jockey around, win some lose some, some start good

and fade a bit, others the opposite. if a team plays good, that means they are capable, and also

take advantage of other teams who aren't playing well, thats the nature of the game.

sounds cute for someone, who really knows nothing about the canucks to say, 'they are playing over
their heads, just a cliche.

saturdays game will be interesting, two teams who have hit the wall lately, as calgary has had a similar

type of season thus far, as canucks, both will be desperate for a win, and for me thats a good recipe

for an exciting enjoyable game.

no NYC based teams on tap tonight so I watched Philly in their 2-1 shoot out loss to Florida - decent enough game but as I've said before, kinda difficult for me to get stoked when it's not a NYC team on the line

ten straight shootout losses for Philly

Florida has a rookie named Aaron Ekblad from Windsor, Ontario and he looks like a future NHL Super Star - he has worked his way up to the NHL at the age of 18 after playing junior puck. Good thing he did not go to college or his game would never have developed as quickly as it has. This is one guy I'll be watching for in the years to come as I believe he has a great future in this game.

He was the #1 draft choice which means he likely got a multi-million dollar signing bonus. A few smart investments and he'll be in the chips for life. :)

yes, he's a good one.

florida is doing well, getting some wins, watched luongo win another shoot out, good for him.

just saw the funniest thing

puck shot at martin brodeur, he stopped it, but then - where is it, no one could find it, he looked everywhere,

down his socks, in his shirt, down his pants, again and again, he skated to the bench, parting his

legs to see if it would fall out, got to the bench, even the official on two occasions looked

in his socks and pads, (not down his pants though, lol),they even frisked him a couple of times, then all of a sudden he stretched one leg to the side, and 'plop', just

like laying a egg, the puck fell out. lol

hillarious.

st louis and l.a., two big tough teams, lots of big hits, st. louis was winning 3-0 at one point,

now late in the game l.a. is up 6-4, two minutes to go.
